ARCHIVED New Gluten Free, Lactose Free, Easy To Digest Slimfast
Ann1231 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I received an email from the slimfast company promoting this. It sounds great, It also could explain why optifast gives me terrible pains. I thought it was gluten free but every time I drank one, I would get sick. I gave the rest away. I haven't seen the "easy to digest" available near me yet but I'm hoping it will be here soon. -
ARCHIVED Reacting To Small Amounts Of Gluten After Going gluten-free?
Ann1231 replied to Helena's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm noticing bigger reactions to the smallest amount of gluten now. I think I got glutened yesterday by a very small amount of seasoning. I used to be able to eat it (before gluten-free) but now, twice, I've had a bad reaction. I think I'm much more sensitive now. -
Another very bad night. I'm going to check the shrimp seasoning I use, I thought it was gluten-free but I'm questioning that. I had shrimp and a baked potato last night and was miserable. Hubby was in the room and heard the gurgling and all and I think finally understands what it does to me. I'm going to double check the seasonings and write to the company...

Yes, it was very thoughtful. With all your children and grandchildren, did you have a full house for Christmas? I hope it was wonderful!

What a great Christmas! My Mother in law was so sweet and bought some really great Christmas gadgets. She got us a black and decker jar lid opener. What a help! There are days when I can't even open a bottle of water to drink so this is a real treasure. She also got us a hot water heater that heats two or three cups of water at a time. I think she saw...

ARCHIVED Sausage/cheese Balls!
Ann1231 replied to ladybugpumpkin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
THANK YOU! I grew up with these and love them. My son was asking for some for Christmas and I told him it had gluten so 'no'. I will look for the mix and make them for New Year's Eve. Ann -
SO glad to be back home! Visiting family is nice but it's nothing like being home. Everyone was really great about my diet. I didn't have to cook separately or anything! We stopped along the way and got fresh vegetables and fruits for Christmas. We plan on juicing quite a bit tomorrow and just take it easy. My stomach is doing well (yea!). I'm so...

Leaving For Christmas: December 18, 2006
Ann1231 commented on Ann1231's blog entry in Ann1231's Blog
Thank you for the prayers. We made it home safely and so did all our family. We had family stranded in Colorado for a few days and one that needed to get into Denver and couldn't. It all worked out in the end though. We had a nice visit with the family that could make it but we're awfully glad to be back home. It's in the 50's here and hardly seems like Christmas... -
I've been having some anxiety today, don't know if it's due to the gluten or what. A friend of mine was killed Sunday night on the way back from her family Christmas. A woman in another car crossed the center line and hit them head on. Deb was killed instantly and the woman and her husband in the other car were killed. Deb's husband is in very critical...

Those are great ideas, thank you. I know they are having unsafe foods but it never occurred to me to take my own pan with me! I can easily do that and I don't think there will be *too* much of a fuss (there's always a fuss over something ) I love stir fries so that would be really easy and one of the homes doesn't have a dishwasher so I wouldn't be spending...

I'm not feeling so good today. Stomach is very gurgly, churning, I'm bloated, my jeans are sooooo tight today! I"m foggy brained, sinus crud, fatigued and did I mention bloated? Hmmm, sounds like I got glutened! I have been so careful too. I can't seem to get ahead for falling behind lately. well, today so far I've had an apple, almond butter...

I'm glad it's helped. It's a huge source of information that's well presented. they've done a great job with all that information.

ARCHIVED Living With Non Celiacs
Ann1231 replied to Hells Bells's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wish my husband would understand this better! He keeps buying all these wheat products for us and keeps telling me "a little isn't going to hurt you". I am SO tired of trying to tell him that yes, it DOES hurt me! -
there are some underlying diseases that can cause it but generally when someone says they have hypoglycemia it's in response to a spike in blood sugar after eating, followed by a fast and deep fall in blood sugar levels. My son and I both have it severely and have to follow a very low sugar, lower carb diet with a bit higher protein levels. I'm to eat...

ARCHIVED What Do You Use To Transport Your Food Everywhere You Go?
Ann1231 replied to azmom3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have several soft sided coolers that have great insulation. They fold up flat for storage and have side pockets for additional items. I got mine at Target. -
Counting carbs can be a lifestyle change. I started counting carbs in February of 1997 and continue to this day, almost 10 years later. That to me, is a lifestyle change. I think too many times people think of something as a diet to be started and then quit as soon as a "goal" is achieved when in fact, people who are successful stay on this "diet" (which...

ARCHIVED Almond Or Cashew Butters?
Ann1231 replied to Nantzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'll add a second nod to maranatha. I love their almond butter and they do make a raw version. When I need a quick snack I put a scoop of it in a dish and eat with a spoon. yummy! On days I juice fruits (not very often at all because of blood sugar) I put a big spoonful of almond butter in the blender with the juices. It adds protein so the sugar doesn... -
ARCHIVED Heavy Periods
Ann1231 replied to Looking for answers's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine were extremely heavy, I mean, I could stand up and that alone would cause "sudden flow" and I'd soak thru. I always had to wear larger over shirts just in case, to cover my bum. After going gluten free and low carbing (about the same time) it's made a world of difference. I can now go shopping during that week! It is much MUCH lighter and the pms... -
I'm with you on that one Dessa, I'd be passed out on the floor without protein in the morning! I have to low carb and higher protein to lose weight, that's how i lost 53 pounds 9 years ago. With my blood sugar swings, I have to stay away from a lot of fruit, all sugars, starchy carbs, etc. I do great with fish, shellfish, and vegetables. That's the only...

ahhhh, temperatures in the 50's today! It was great! Son had to work theater so we spent the day in the 'big city'. I walked sooo much, I'm pretty tired tonight. I'm trying to find a stand for my tv in the bedroom. It's not a big tv but it's big enough to need something solid under it. I found some antique stores, which were great, but didn't have...

that was fun! It had me pegged!! -
Feelin' good today! I had a small bout of gurgling on the right side earlier in the day and wondered for a while if I was going to have some latent problem from Saturday's binge but it settled down and it's been a good day. I had shrimp and corn for lunch and then two juice smoothies later today. Tonight I"m feeling very good. My joints are feeling great...

I am feeling worlds better today. I slept very hard last night with no tummy troubles at all. I am very stiff today which I'm getting real tired of, but as far as stomach, mental, etc., I'm doing very well. I need to do some Christmas shopping for hubby today, who btw still is nagging me that "a little wheat isn't going to hurt you". I can not...

ARCHIVED So What Is Every One Eating...?
Ann1231 replied to zachsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
we don't eat that kind of stuff but I know that most health food stores are carrying gluten-free mixes of all kinds now. A year or so ago I tried a couple of gluten-free muffin mixes but they were so heavy I could have sided my house with them! I'd rather not have any of it rather than have bricks.
