You know what works really great and is pretty inexpensive? I use baby oil right after I get out of the shower and while I am still wet. You don't need to use a lot, and it lasts all day. My skin is super soft. The only lotion I need to use is hand lotion because I wash my hands a lot during the day and they get super dry.

ARCHIVED New Guy Here, Any Beginners Advice
Monael replied to dacoontz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At first I just focused on things that were naturally gluten free. There are a lot of yummy things, like steak, potatoes and salad, or chicken, rice and veggies. My kids still eat gluten so I still buy those things for them. I haven't bought any gluten free bread because of the cost so the toaster thing isn't an issue. I have found a lot of substitutes... -
ARCHIVED Breads & Rolls

Have you tried rice cakes? I was never interesting in even trying them but after going gluten free, I tried them and they taste pretty good. I put mayo, lunch meat and a bit of cheese on top. Combined with a salad or other veggies, it has been my go-to lunch when I don't have left overs. Also, corn tortillas are another great option. You can put cheese... -
While I do think there are probably people who do latch on to fads that come around-and it appears that there might be some who could be going gluten free for that reason, I really wish they would have acknowledged how many people have had symptom relief by going gluten free. I am one such person. Believe me, I am the last person to follow a fad. But I...

ARCHIVED Ok, Not To Be A Total Skeptic...
Monael replied to HS7474's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know what you mean because that was my initial reaction. Luckily all of my pans are not of the nonstick variety. The only thing I have done so far is not use any wooden utensils for my non gluten foods and I bought another strainer for my gluten free pasta. Also, I have segregated the butter. Since I am too cheap to buy gluten free bread (not only cheap... -
ARCHIVED Pursue Official Diagnosis?
Monael replied to cait's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can only speak to my personal experience. I figured out quite recently that gluten was my problem after a long history of IBS diagnosis and having serious bowel movement problems, as well as brain fog, depression, iron deficiency, scalp sores/itching, etc. For me, it is not relevant what my "official" diagnosis is. I feel so much better on a gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Regular Grocery Store Frustration
Monael replied to Ripcord's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have reconciled myself with the idea that I just am not going to eat a lot of things that I used to eat. Such as hamburgers and hot dogs with buns, pizza, cakes, cookies, bread, and pies. Those things just have to be reserved as treats where I will make a special trip to find them. This is because looking at the prices - I just can't justify buying... -
ARCHIVED Develop Celiac Disease At 35
Monael replied to uruboy02's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's funny, I am 46 and figured it out for myself after many years of being told I had IBS. So many different symptoms have disappeared or have improved I can't believe it. I don't even WANT my old favorites that have gluten. But looking back, I also wonder how long I had this. I was very anemic starting when I was a child. And the IBS has been around... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like People Are Irritated With Me...
Monael replied to Jenn624's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have only been gluten free for probably a month or less, so I don't know how this will be long term. Does it seem weird that I don't even want to tell anyone about not eating gluten? Well, besides my kids, my boyfriend and close friends. I just don't want to deal with the issues I have seen come up on here. Perhaps that is cowardly. Today we had... -
I am new to this. It just never occurred to me that there would be flour in the caramel. But you are right, I am not going to accept any more samples at all. It is just not worth it. That will help me narrow down any other sources of gluten, too. It's just weird how dramatic the symptoms get. I was sitting on the couch trying to watch my...

I have been doing so well the last couple of weeks but about an hour ago I started getting the stomach cramps, had to run to the bathroom with the big D, and I feel so tired and have brain fog. I was just getting used to having a clear head, so it is pretty obvious to me now. I also am feeling nauseous and a burning sensation in my abdomen. The only...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free...just Because
Monael replied to NorthernElf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am newly on a gluten-free diet. I have not been diagnosed but I have such a huge relief in my symptoms that I really don't care whether I have Celiac disease or if I am gluten intolerant or whatever else it may be. I just know that I feel so much better that I am disappointed that I didn't know this many years ago because I could have stopped suffering... -
ARCHIVED Hungry A Lot

That's a good point, Debbie, I am going to add some fat and see if it helps. I always feel this constant hunger. It is worth a try. -
ARCHIVED Hungry A Lot
Monael replied to Monael's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think it is because I am mostly eating lean meats, some fruits and veggies, and a bit of nuts and yogurt. I am scared to eat too many other things until I really get a handle on the ins and outs of eating gluten free. I made a mistake of eating a granola bar because it didn't list any gluten ingredients but it really messed me up. I don't know if it... -
This post caught my eye. Here is my situation. I have not been diagnosed with celiac disease but after having a whole lot of bowel issues (dr said IBS) and changing my diet to lose weight I really have come to believe that I either have celiac disease or am gluten intolerant. I have been gluten free for over a week to test if it makes me feel better and...

ARCHIVED Hungry A Lot
Monael posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been gluten free for about a week or so-I should have written down the day but I forgot. Anyways, I noticed that have been hungry a lot! Way more than normal. For instance, I just ate dinner, pot roast, potatoes, carrots and onions. I ate a pretty good size portion. But I still feel hungry. Is this common or is it just me? -
ARCHIVED I Can't Do This
Monael replied to NewbieMarch2011's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am new to this too. I haven't been diagnosed like you have, I simply put 2 and 2 together when I went on a low carb, no starch diet for a couple of weeks and noticed that my bowel symptoms cleared up. When I went back to my regular diet back came the bowel issues. So I decided that for me, I would rather just avoid the gluten so I would feel better... -
ARCHIVED Me? Gluten Intolerant?
Monael posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am really just blown away. I have had issues for many years and have previously been diagnosed as IBS. Mainly bloating, diarrhea, steatorrhea, cramping, etc. Didn't really give it a second thought, as I have been living with it for so long I got used to the painful bathroom visits. Recently, I wanted to shed some pounds and went on a diet that excluded...
