  1. I've thought about the military thing too. I was considering joining a few years back and now I'm so glad that I didn't. I'm sure no MREs are gluten free! Could you imagine having a bad case of D out in the field. That would be terrible! I've also thought a truck driver would be bad, having to stop at every rest stop. If there even is one! Of course...
  2. I find it interesting that you are from Ireland because we had a post going a while back where someone asked what people's heritage is and almost everyone who replied had at least a little bit of Irish heritage. I've also read that this is more common for Irish people and I believe that it is thought to be because the Irish didn't have gluten in their diets...
  3. That sounds like fun! I would like to go there. Great music comes from Cape Breton. But you probably already knew that. BTW my sister's name is Loretta. You don't hear it very often. (Sorry I don't know any restaurants, I just felt like posting because of those two things.)
  4. Feel free to rant away. Most of us feel the need to do that every once in a while. I'm sorry that you are feeling so bad and I hope you find the answers when you go to the doctor.
  5. Lushgreen: I would say that the shots help, but since I went gluten free and started getting the shots at the same time I can't really say if it was the shots or the diet change.
  6. No, besides the fact the I never want to feel how I did before, this would cause damage to your intestine and that can take a while to heal. The other problems that you can get from continuing to eat gluten, even once in a while, is not worth the pizza or donut. I got sick the other day, not because of gluten but because I didn't eat enough, and I threw...
  7. Yes, your doctor is right. You want to be on gluten when you have your tests done otherwise your intestines may heal and then you would show negative for celiac disease. It does really suck that you have to continue to be sick, but at least you know it wasn't all for nothing. Did your biopsy come back positive?
  8. Do you know if you are vitamin B12 deficient? A lot of times they will run tests for this and other vitamins that celiacs are not absorbing while their intestines are damaged. When you are low in B12 this makes you really tired among other things. However, taking vitamins in a pill form will not help since your intestines cannot absorb them. Some people get...
  9. Yeah, this happened to me too. My symptoms started gradually and then it seems like it was BOOM really sick a lot of the time.
  10. I know there was somebody on here once who posted from Korea. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that is their heritage now that I think about it.
  11. Tasha-yeah that all makes sense. And I do recognize that I take a risk eating out at these places because they are not aware of my needs and may do things that would not normally be bad, but that are for us. I do trust McDonalds more than Wendy's.
  12. Okay, I get it now. I was going to say, that sounds like a weird test! I know what you mean though, they do have to take a lot of viles for all the tests. I've heard that some people even just in the general populations have high ANA and half of them never develop any type of disease related to those. Unfortunately, it is likely I have one...
  13. Why would burned meat be contaminated with gluten? Not that it sounds appetizing. I don't know though that it is true that they use that. Wouldn't burnt meat taste bad? Even in chili? Where is this info from? Wendy's says that their chili is gluten-free and I know that so many companies are worried about being sued and covering their butts in their statements...
  14. Excedrin extra strength is on this list www.glutenfreedrugs.com I have asked about Excedrin Migraine on here in the past and no one responded.
  15. I used to eat fast food all the time. We can still have some things. Like burgers (no bun) and fries from McDonalds. Their burgers are pretty pathetic looking though with no bun. And chili from Wendy's. Plus other stuff. I mostly just miss the ease of eating anywhere without worry. It is definitely hard! I'm with you. I miss BK's chicken sandwiches and...
  16. Bean posted this link on another message. Open Original Shared Link Look for your b.c. here.
  17. Tiffany mentioned not over sleeping and I think this is a good point. When I was a teenager I suffered with serious depression and I would come home from school and climb into bed and sleep all night. Almost everyday. Sleep becomes an easy way to hide from your problems instead of confronting them. Jen-I have thought about a new career. I literally think...
  18. That would make me so mad! Their not like businesses either where you can threaten them with something. I had to pay $600 for mine, but at least they found the damage so I don't feel like it was for nothing. My sister went into the doctor specifically to have the blood test done for celiac and they ran the wrong tests. Now she doesn't have insurance but she...
  19. Wow! What's that deal with the lupus test? They think I may have lupus or something else as I have high ANA too, but I have actually had two flare ups of symptoms. They have never mentioned the blood thing though. I don't have any current plans to go back to my GI. I've thought about having the blood test run again to see if I'm truly gluten-free, but...
  20. So any Tropicana labeled "pure premium" is safe, but that's it?
  21. It would make sense that you've felt depressed if you were glutened. I don't know what you mean about exhausting yourself. Do you mean working a lot and overdoing it? I would think that it would be much easier to exhaust yourself when you are glutened and that taking it easier would be better for you. Obviously you just found out that you were glutened...
  22. As far as I know, headaches are not an "official" symptom of celiac disease. But I do believe that gluten contributes to getting headaches because since going gluten-free mine have almost totally gone away. I used to get really bad ones a couple times a week. So, if the gluten in your makeup is getting into your system, I would think that it could affect...
  23. I don't really understand their answer. What do the plant numbers mean?
  24. I have been gluten-free for a few months now and feels lots better. I haven't taken anything else out of my diet. I do know about lots of people w/celiac disease having dairy issues too, but I haven't noticed anything yet. Maybe because my celiac disease was caught really early on, my villi wasn't as damaged and I'm not sensitive to lactose. What exactly...
  25. I struggle with this stuff a lot too. Sometimes I'm really depressed, sometimes just like "what's the point?" I don't know if it comes from the disease, it is said that depression goes with it, or just life in general. I think a lot of the general public these days struggles with this stuff. Especially if you are doing a job you don't feel good about. I know...
