  1. i think there are definitely individual differences but there do seem to be different phases. i had the bloated phase before i went off gluten. i still have some bloating but nothing like before when it made me look pregnant. i have been tired before and after gluten-free. i started sleeping better since gluten-free. though something about the spring...
  2. I noticed a difference when I ate a lot of processed foods versus more raw food. I felt full/bloated and sluggish on a lot of processed food. Dr Bateson-Koch's book recommends a mostly raw diet. I think no processed foods is too hard and impractical given the advertising, having eaten lots of processed foods, and how they are something easy to travel with...
  3. Since you are eating processed rice there can be cross contamination with gluten especially since chex makes wheat chex too. real rice would probably be better than the processed rice. though there is something to be said for avoiding all grains till you have time to heal. dr bateson-koch's book recommends a mostly raw diet and limiting grains, nuts, and...
  4. The gluten free label though is confusing to people who do not know what it means and with it not being regulated. I do not want companies to stop making gluten-free products but there needs to be a better system.
  5. i have been gluten free for a year and i have had more muscle pain than before I went gluten-free, so I can relate to what you are going through. i have not heard of dr joel fuhrman's book but it sounds like he does some of the same things as dr datis kharrazian (one of his books is - why do i still have thyroid symptoms) he talks a lot about the role...
  6. I have had dry itchy eyes. I have a lot of food and environmental allergies. I am intolerant to gluten and casein. I am cross reactive to yeast and buckwheat. The more allergens I am exposed to the worse my eyes get. I have tested numerous negative tests, but still had symptoms and problems. In addition there are limitations to any test and you have to...
  7. that is great your sleeping better and not having insomnia any more. my sleep got better too when i went off gluten. i used to have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep.
  8. this is a good place to rant and vent. we can empathize with what you are going through and share what has helped us and maybe something we have done will help you. i put on weight and was bloated. getting rid of the gluten helped some with the bloating but the weight stayed until i was on the gut healing diet of no sugar, grain, or lectins. i can relate...
  9. My cravings changed since going gluten free. I now love lima beans and sometimes I even get excited to eat broccoli, cauliflower, avocado, brussel sprouts, and sauerkraut. I swear my taste buds changed. My appetite has increased I did not drop weight though till I was on the gut repair diet that was grain, sugar, and lectin free. I still crave sugar...
  10. When I was on the gut repair diet that does not allow grains I lost weight whereas before I could not. Since reintroducing grain I put weight back on, but it could be other diet changes too. Before my diagnosis I put weight on and could not lose it even with exercise and watching my diet. I also was so bloated and looked like I was pregnant.
  11. What is the difference between bumping and responding to an old post because it is interesting? Is it better not to reply to old posts? On another board, I did not know it was an issue and I was just so excited about what I read that I posted and the moderators deleted it. I do not want that to happen again, to get a warning, or get kicked off this fabulous...
  12. it has been a year for me. i have casein (protein in dairy) intolerance. i am still working on getting rid of my food allergies so that impacts my diet. my doctor told me not to eat corn and soy. i think there is cross reactivity with corn and both are often genetically modified. i was tested for cross reactivity and found out i should not eat yeast or buckwheat...
  13. i agree in some ways i too felt better on gluten. i feel like i crashed, got diagnosed, stopped crashing, and switched symptoms. on gluten, i had constipation, stomachaches, headaches, and skin problems. about a year ago, i was so bloated, could not lose weight, and kept getting infections. off gluten, i could go the bathroom, headaches were less often and...
  14. i think u are being hard on yourself. yeah having gluten is bad for you and will have negative consequences but you are human. i like how people suggested what was underlying the urge to have gluten because then hopefully u can avoid another slip up like this. i think it is good to talk to your boyfriend and get his support (him encouraging you to stay gluten...
  15. My allergy doctor said the blood tests are more accurate for kids than adults because it shows you had an issue at some point but you may have out grown it. also with celiac's and gluten intolerance the intestines leak food so it gets in the blood stream and the immune system reacts so then you have allergies. according to dr carolee bateson-koch (book: allergies...
  16. i have been having a similar problem. i have also been gluten free for awhile about a year now. i am still bloated, have diarrhea, stomaches. i have not really had a problem with throwing up which i am grateful for. that seems bad. i agree with the other poster bulimia has all sorts of health problems and while you are not doing it on purpose it cannot be...
  17. apparently low stomach acid and too much stomach acid can have the same symptoms (allergies by carolee bateson-koch) but of course they are treated differently. so it occurred to me that the acid reflux medicine could be making things worse or masking the root problem instead of treating it. i have been gluten free for about a year now but i am still...
  18. I am gluten and casein (a protein in milk/dairy) intolerant. When I get glutened, it can put me to sleep even if i am visiting someone and it is rude to fall asleep. Before I went gluten and casein free, I had developed anxiety, felt blue, was tired, and my heart would race. It seems to me that your symptoms could be tied to the cottage cheese though it could...
  19. i am still having moodiness a year later but i have been glutened and eaten foods only to discover i cross react to them so it definitely happens. i agree try to stick with it and you might love the results so much you never go back. you are not being selfish you are taking care of yourself. like mushroom was saying there are a bunch of healthy foods you...
  20. Could be other foods. My doctor said not to have soy, but I do not know why just that gluten intolerance = no soy. My doctor and some internet sources say careful with other grains and corn because there is not enough information to know if they are safe for gluten intolerant folks. There is also cross reactivity. Cyrex Labs does a test for it. I react to...
  21. stinks when family does not listen. i dislike how doctors do not do tests and miss the diagnosis. good point Elfbaby if they do not get tested or consider the possibility then they do not have to make changes and deal with the struggles of living gluten-free. but it still breaks my heart to know they would not have the weight issues, bloating, indigestion...
  22. can there be gluten in water? i mean if there are all those other things and you hear about there being drugs in water because people flush them. i have hear filtered water is not enough and several sources recommended distilled or reverse osmosis. but then i have seen some sources say just drink tap water though that seems weird to me given all these things...
  23. too bad the disease cannot work for us. what a weird set up. that sucks how your boyfriend lost his job supporting you. i feel so bad for everything my boyfriend went through when i was so sick right before i got diagnosed. i hoped and prayed he would be able to keep his job especially since he was supporting both of us. i felt bad having to rely on him especially...
  24. i think you can be addicted to wheat. i think you can have withdrawal going off it. bread is the staple in the us and some other places. aw yay that your sister tried to be supportive and help get a treat you could have. i agree it is great to be free of daily intestinal revolt and skin problems. best wishes on the job hunt!
  25. I agree when I was diagnosed I was upset that I suffered for years unnecessarily. I was also sad for those years that were lost. I am frustrated that I have to wait for healing to come. It is nice that it all I have to do is avoid gluten. I do not mind not having gluten though finding alternative, safe, not cross contaminated foods can be a pain at times...
