  1. Thanks Lori, but I drink my coffee black. I hate flavored coffee so much I won't let anyone use it in my coffee maker here at the shop because the flavor gets into the plastic and you can never get it out. I won't grind my beans at the grocery store for the same reason. Of course at home I use a French press, and it makes the very best tasting coffee ever...
  2. Thanks (once again!) Skylark, for your helpful advice! I checked out the list and it makes a lot of sense to me. And from what I've heard about quinoa, I have a feeling I might not like it. I know it must be rinsed very well before cooking, but they say it has a soapy taste. If I don't like it I'll do the lentils and rice instead. You know what really...
  3. The nutritionist wants me to stay away from citrus fruit for a few weeks. Turns out there are a lot of people who have trouble with citrus. I was talking to a lady at the grocery store last week who gets severe digestive symptoms from citrus of any kind. I don't think you can wash off or peel away the ethylene from the potatoes. For a while I was peeling...
  4. A lot of my family members got red hair and I always felt deprived because my hair is brown. Well, it WAS brown. Now it is salt and pepper, but what is really funny is that the grey has a distinct reddish hue. A lot of people think I streak my hair because it looks more reddish blond than grey.
  5. Aly, all veggies give off ethylene gas when they age. What they do is gas the potatoes with ethylene gas (that is derived from corn) to fool the potatoes into "thinking" they have already aged past the point of sprouting. The only painkiller I ever found that didn't have corn or gluten is BC Aspirin powder. Then I found out I am allergic to aspirin. ...
  6. I have the same intolerances (except dairy, but I'm off dairy right now anyway), AND I HATE to cook! What I do is, on a day when I'm feeling up to it, I chop up my vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower or carrots) and put them in a gallon zip-lock bag. Then I will cook up a big bunch of rice and add that to the veggies. Then I cook some meat on the George Forman...
  7. I am a self-diagnosed Celiac, based on family history, my symptoms, and the fact that the gluten free diet got rid of those symptoms. And then the other intolerances hit. It's pretty hard not to get corned - it's in everything, even whole foods like potatoes, bagged salads, and a lot of other things. And because I have this jaw problem (as yet undiagnosed...
  8. Watch out for canned food if you are supersensitive to corn. The linings in cans as well of the crystal clear plastic bottles such as individual servings of water come in, are now being made with corn. I have reacted to these and I know other people who have.
  9. I am one who is gluten/corn/soy free. I'm also reacting to a lot of foods that SHOULD be perfectly OK, like leafy greens, asparagus, yams, and a host of others. The biggest problem I have is with corn because it isn't considered to be one of the top eight allergens so they don't have to label it. For example, if something contains "vegetable protein", if...
  10. She said I should eat quinoa for the protein. But the thing that worries me the most is vitamin B12. I STILL can't find a sub-lingual that is totally free of corn, gluten and soy. The closest I've found was one that said "No gluten, no soy, no corn protein". That means that the flavor and color are probably "delivered" on corn and while THEY don't think it...
  11. Thanks, Raven. I think the wheatgrass supplement was something she threw out there because I've been worrying about getting enough nutrition. I'm not going to risk it though. I know that I won't die of malnutrition in three weeks, so although I'm sure I'll be really hungry during all this, I think I can do it. I've been cutting back on coffee lately anyway...
  12. Whew! I'm a bit overwhelmed and still trying to fit it all together. First, she said that my system is on "hyperdrive" right now and that is why I am reacting to almost everything. She said I need to eliminate all irritants. Of course gluten, soy, corn, peanuts, citrus fruits, food additives such as "flavor" "flavoring" "natural flavor", "color" "coloring...
  13. Avalon, I am probably the biggest "whiner" on this board, and all I've gotten in return is hugs, encouragment, advice, and friendships. In other words, if you are feeling down, this is the best place to come talk about it. My advice would be to keep in mind when those days hit, that usually by tomorrow you'll be feeling stronger and more able to cope...
  14. I am about in the same boat as you are right now. I'll be seeing a nutritionist on Sunday. I'll let you know what she says. I'm HOPING that I will be able to start eating more foods soon. Heart palpitations? I've had them for years and years. About 20 years ago a doctor told me it was because I had a prolapsed valve. He said it was fairly common and that...
  15. Gail, I can't eat anything that comes out of a can because they are now lined with a type of plastic made with CORN. I HATE it that corn is hidden in almost every food there is. I really don't think dairy is bothering my psoriasis either. I get no symptoms whatsoever from eating cheese and butter. I'm wondering if maybe the reason leafy greens and sweet...
  16. Gail, thanks for the input. I do eat a lot of eggs. I usually mix them in with the rice, meat, and cauliflower, along with some cheese. Dairy has never seemed to be a problem for me. Do you think it could be causing digestive harm without symptoms? I LOVE seafood, but unfortunately I live in a small town in the midwestern US where the only seafood...
  17. Right after starting this thread a friend came in to my shop with is sub sandwich. He picked up my bowl of rice and chicken with his gulteny hand and I told him he had just contaminated my food. When he said he thinks I "go a little overboard with this food stuff", I lost it. I didn't even know I KNEW such foul words as came out of my mouth! After I screamed...
  18. I just can't seem to figure out a diet that workds for me. It seems like every time I try to add any food back to my diet I react. And I keep getting corned or soyed or something. I've been struggling with vitamin deficiencies and thought I'd found something I could take. It had "vitamin E from soy", but was the closest I could find to gluten/corn free...
  19. I knew that a lot of TP and other paper products had corn, but I wasn't aware of gluten. Could it be the corn that is bothering her?

Depending on how bad her intolerance to corn is, she may have a problem with xanthan gum which is grown on corn. I do.
  21. I am hyper-sensitive to corn. The new plastic water bottles and the new lining used in cans is made with corn, and I react to them. My psoriasis goes wild when exposed to corn and my insomnia too. I never had much in the way of digestive symptoms, until I had been on the diet for a while. But I don't know about from corn because I have been so strict about...
  22. Maybe we should keep in mind that we are talking to people who are either sick, scared, confused, feeling helpless, or all of the above. We wouldn't be snarky to a person in real life who was feeling that way. We would treat them gently. I guess because we can't see each other's faces and hear each other's voices while we type that sometimes we forget...
  23. Definitely get your vitamin and mineral levels checked so you can treat the cause. But for relief from the SYMPTOMS, try putting and unwrapped bar of soap in bed with you, near your (and your husband's) legs, and anywhere else these muscle spasms occur. I know it sounds crazy, but I swear to you, it works. It can't hurt to try it, and it WILL help. I promise...
  24. Thanks, Riceguy. I'm having so much trouble right now I can't try any of your suggestions. All I can safely eat is rice (now I'm back to white rice because the brown rice I love is giving me problems),eggs, cheese, meat, cauliflower, and limited amounts of broccoli. I tried potatoes again and they are definitely a no go. Every new food I try seems to bother...
  25. OK, it's the world's most helpless cook here. I did something today that the rest of you will probably shrug your shoulders at, but for me, well I'm proud of myself. The chicken still wasn't thawed enough to cook this morning. I had a little leftover rice/pork chop/cauliflower mixture in the frige at work, but I knew I'd never get two meals out of it....
