ARCHIVED Winter Projects And Goals?
bartfull replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My goal is to get through another day. -
ARCHIVED Photo Included...tell Me What You Think
bartfull replied to Metoo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It's hard to tell from the photos, but do they look like whitehead pimples, and then after a day or two become just red dots? Or are they more like clear blisters? You say it hurts but you don't mention itching. Do you get this on your feet too? Any other parts of the body? And when it heals, does it get really dry and crack and peel? I have palmoplantar... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Morning Sickness Solutions
bartfull replied to jswog's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ice chips. They work for morning sickness and regular stomach bugs too. -
I wanted to get my vitamin levels checked too, but with no insurance and a cost of over $500, it just isn't possible. I KNOW I need B-12 and/or biotin because I was on them for a while and felt better than I had in decades. Clear headed with tons of energy. But then the corn intolerance reared its ugly head and I had to stop. I have seen some online that...

When I had a terrible reaction to aspirin I thought I might have trouble with salicylates in food too. I had been having trouble with lots of fruits and veggies too. The problem is, there aren't a lot of fruits and veggies I like to begin with. Broccoli is one I do like, and I had been eating it with no problem, but I dropped it for a while. Pears that...

ARCHIVED Holiday Successes And Failures
bartfull replied to thleensd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was lucky enough to be invited to a home where the people are understanding and they truly care. When Wendy asked me what she could cook special for me, I told her that I didn't want to insult her, but it would be easier to just bring my own. So I brought a plate with roast chicken, baked potato and broccoli. I even brought my own silverware, glass, and... -
ARCHIVED What About The Chicken With Rice Soup?
bartfull replied to catsmeow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry you're sick, and on Christmas too, when you should be enjoying your family! I understand completely about the fragrance thing. I have a touch of asthma, and certain scents set me off. Those horrible dryer sheets are one of the worst offenders. I used to work as a cashier at a store that sold them, and I would have to hold out a bag and have... -
ARCHIVED A Christmas Thankyou
bartfull replied to NoodleUnit's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
YES!!!! I can honestly say that if it weren't for the knowledgable advice and the help figuring this out, I would still be a very miserable person. Thanks to this forum and the wonderful people on it, I am going to enjoy Christmas in relatively good health. I will be grateful forever, and I wish all of you a wonderful holiday season. -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Worst Symptom When Glutened?
bartfull replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Interesting about the TMJ. It was one of the first things they ruled out though in my case. I have an egg sized, hard as a rock lump on my jawbone, about halfway between my chin and the hinge of my jaw. It never goes away, but from time to time that whole side of my face swells like a chipmunk, I can't open my mouth wide enough to even get the baby toothbrush... -
ARCHIVED Christmas Shopping Stories

I don't like crowds either. I have lived in the Black Hills for almost eight years now, and the only mall in the Hills is in Rapid City. I have never even BEEN there yet! That being said, I must admit that as a brick and mortar Mom (no Pop) store owner, I cringe when I hear about all of the online shopping. Go downtown, in whatever town you're in. There... -

Oops. Sorry, I forgot you mentioned dairy is a problem for you. So, maybe you could use some more chips to dip in the egg after all? -
ARCHIVED Snacks For Multiple Allergies
bartfull replied to GFreeMO's topic in Super Sensitive People
Snacks? Kettle Brand potato chips with sea salt, and either Starbucks coffee, Hagen Daz chocolate, or Blue Bunny all natural vanilla ice creams. Even before I had food problems I always swore that if a person could live on ice cream and potato chips, I would be a happy girl. Now that I have been "reduced" to eating only the very best brands of these two... -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Worst Symptom When Glutened?
bartfull replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm still not sure if this undiagnosed jaw pain is strictly gluten/corn related or not, so even though that is my worst health problem, I don't think I can name that. So I'd have to say the insomnia and all of the fatigue, low energy, and emotional fragility it brings. -
ARCHIVED Salad Dressing Substitute
bartfull replied to MikeTambo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Plain rice vinegar is good. It is so mild and delicious you could DRINK the darned stuff. I don't even mix it with any oil, just drizzle it on and enjoy. -
ARCHIVED Christmas Shopping Stories
bartfull replied to Booghead's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Christmas shopping stories? Well, I don't have a lot of shopping to do. I have no family but there are a few good friends I shop for. About six months ago, just as I was reaching my nadir, health-wise, and right before I went gluten free, I was invited to a home jewelry party. This company sells silver jewelry, which I am allergic to, but you know how you... -
ARCHIVED So, This Week Will Be Interesting...
bartfull replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Maybe she's thinking that since you are gluten free it'll be easier to eat gluten free while she's with you. If she DOES have an intolerance, even a week of gluten free will make her feel better, and then she will KNOW. And you can help her with the diet. You could also see if the mods can delete this thread first , then have her join our group. I... -
Note to self: When eating at a restaurant, keep your mouth shut. Sorry Dana, I don't mean to make light of your situation. I just couldn't help myself. If the drycleaning bill comes to more than eight dollars AND works to clean your shirt, I would send them a copy of the bill. If it DOESN'T get your shirt clean, I would discretely bring the shirt...

ARCHIVED Healing More Than The Body...
bartfull replied to Elizabeth5220's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think emotional strength is just like physical strength in that the more you exercize it, the stronger it becomes. I think the fact that I walked away from alcohol (and it was NOT easy), made it a bit easier to adjust to the new diet. There is a big beautiful blueberry pie sitting on my table right now, that is a gift to a family that I will be seeing... -
ARCHIVED Mother Drives Me Nuts Cooking Gluten Laden Foods
bartfull replied to catlover0329's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The more I read the stories about family here, the better I feel about not having any family at all. The only living relative I have is a sister who disowned the family years and years ago, and I haven't heard from her in forever. My Mom had Celiac. In the days when nobody had ever heard of it, she went through similar things with friends and some of... -
ARCHIVED Mascara Brands gluten-free?
bartfull replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have used Maybelline Great Lash for decades. It is the best mascara I have ever used, and it is inexpensive. BUT!!! They have changed their packaging, and now the old pink and green tube is a dark, vivid pink/fuchia color. It SAYS "same great product", but I have noticed since I started using the new tube a couple of weeks ago that it SMEARS. I look... -
ARCHIVED A Summary Of 2011 (Funny)
bartfull replied to IrishHeart's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hmm...well I know that brown recluse spiders are sometimes called fiddleback spiders. They are very nasty critters. I also know that in the old days, some people would put rattlesnake rattles inside their violins on the theory that it would keep spiders away. (I don't think it worked very well though.) -
Well, I am self-diagnosed. There are two reasons for that. 1) I don't have insurance, and 2) I have, not an IRrational fear of doctors, but what I think is a RATIONAL fear. It was medical error that killed my father. It was medical incompetence that killed my beloved Grandmother. And I'm pretty sure Mom's "leukemia" was actually a vitamin B-12 deficiency...

ARCHIVED What Does The Average Celiac Look Like
bartfull replied to cbonner's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If sincere wishes could stop the pain, you would both be up and dancing a jig. Remind me next time I complain about MY pain, that it could be a lot worse! Mine is just in my jaw. And I have started sleeping again, sometimes as many as eight full hours. I wish there was something I could do to make YOU feel better too. The best I can offer is a cyber ((((... -
