  1. Somebody posted not too long ago that NYC (New York Color) lipsticks are gluten free. They are inexpensive too. I've been using it with no problems at all.
  2. I tried progressives once. I hated them. They are not like regular bifocals - the part you read out of is actually just a very narrow strip in the center. I actually had to turn my head to read across the page of a small paperback book!
  3. Gail says: "My rheumatologist was quite curious about this effect of going gluten free (he wasn't celiac-savvy), and he asked me to let him know how things progressed for me even though I am no longer actively under his care, as he wished to learn more." Now THAT is a good doctor!
  4. I will agree with the other posters. You need to find a doctor who LISTENS. This guy sounds like one of those "old fashioned" doctors who thinks he is the expert and the patient should not interfere. You have been through so much already and I hate to hear that you're so sick. I sure wish I could help, but all I can do is let you know I care. I'll be...
  5. As soon as my system settles down a bit, I'm going to be trying a lot of those recipes. Thanks!
  6. I would eat a big, satisfying meal before I went, and make sure I had a great dessert waiting for me when I got home. Then I would go and enjoy my friends. And I would trust that over time and with a little education, these people would realize you are not "over exaggerating".

    ARCHIVED Insomnia

I've had insomnia all my life. I remember when I was a little kid, long before I even started school, I used to hear Mom and Pops come to bed after the 11 o'clock news. I could sleep all day though. When I grew up and got a second shift job I was in heaven! I could get out at midnight, come home and play guitar or read for a while, go to bed at dawn...
  8. I am so sorry. A big ((((HUG)))) to you, and know that you will be in the thoughts and prayers of so many of us.
  9. I am not stomping on your vent either, believe me. Lord knows I have come here to vent many times. But I have to tell you, I would be in absolute HEAVEN if gluten were the ONLY intolerance I had! If I weren't also intolerant to soy and corn, I could at least eat some Udi's or Canyon Bakehouse breads. I wouldn't have trouble with most ice creams, frozen vegetables...
  10. I still get really grumpy, but then again I have been struggling with an elimination diet without much success. But my sex drive started to improve within weeks after going gluten free. Surprised the heck out of me too - I thought I was just one of those post-menopausal women who completely lost all interest. Who knew?
  11. I've had them and they were good.
  12. Skylark, I think I found the same article you did, and I can now honestly say I've never had a true yam in my life. But these organic "yams" I bought were the very best tasting sweet potatoes I ever had. I don't know what it is about the beef at the meat locker. I don't believe any of it is grass fed, it just tastes old to me, like it is about ready to...
  13. Hi Sparky. No, as far as I know the nightshades are tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and white potato. I don't think yams are related. The avocados didn't give me gas and bananas don't either. But everyone is different. I can't figure out why leafy greens give me D - they shouldn't bother me at all, but they do. You sound as frustrated as I have been...
  14. And although I don't have chickens (yet), I can commiserate with you on the D. I never used to get D from gluten until I gave it up. It was psoriasis and insomnia that prompted me to investigate celiac and try the gluten-free diet. Cured my psoriasis and insomnia, but now as well as both of those coming back, I get the emergency D when I am exposed. Our...
  15. Here I am the next day to report that the yams DEFINITELY WORKED!! Hehehehe. I never thought the idea of eating a baked yam could make me so happy. I had a ricecake banana and Cabot extra sharp cheddar for breakfast today. More steak yam and broccoli for lunch and supper later today. I have worked out a plan of sorts. If I go to Safeway once every two...
  16. I think the yams worked. It's been about five hours since I had some for lunch and so far so good. And what a difference in taste! These organic yams are so sweet and they don't have a bit of the pumpkin-y taste. XrayLady, thanks for the tip and welcome to the board! Actually the Sundown products all have corn in them somewhere. Corn is hard to find...

  19. Good morning my friends! The hot dogs didn't work. About two hours after I ate them my stomach took a flop. I left work early because I was afraid I would lose them pretty fast in one way or another. I ALMOST vomited, and I ALMOST had D. Lots of burping and gas pains. I'm not sure if it was something in them I shouldn't have had, or maybe it was just...
  20. First of all let me say I absolutely LOVE you people! I don't know what I would do without your advice and support. You truly are lifesavers and sanity savers. Oh how I wish I could do something for you in return. As it is, all I can do is pray for you and tell you if you ever get a chance to come to the Black Hills, look me up and we'll have a party. (I...
  21. Yeah, I can't afford to hire anyone but I can't afford to take time off either. Besides, who would teach my dozens of guitar students? I'll ask the doctor about the B12 injections. I need biotin too. My hair is coming out by the handful. I need D too I'm pretty sure.
  22. I closed the shop and went to the healthfood store a few minutes ago. 35 dollars later I came back with some pro-biotics (a three week supply), an 8 ounce package of cheese, and an 8-pack of organic bison hot dogs. The hot dogs have onion powder so there's probably corn in them. The pro-biotics LOOK safe, but we'll see. Of course I checked every gluten free...
  23. BAD morning! I had never replaced Mom's saucepan because I've just been microwaving everything. So I went to the only store in town that sells things like pots and pans and bought a chintzy (because that's all they had) thin, spun stainless steel pan and a strainer. These two items cost 30 bucks. Then, because a lot of brand new still in the store pans are...
  24. I replid to your post with the nutritionist and would be very interested in hearing about your progress as I seem to be dealing with alot of the same issues. I have recently started taking some herbal supplements to help me in areas and am finding some success with them as well.

  25. The nutritionist suggested coconut oil and I bought some but haven't added it to my diet yet. Does it TASTE like coconut when you cook with it? I ask because when I was three years old, Mom was making a cake and had coconut out that she was going to put on the frosting. She had her back to me while she was mixing the cake and I ate that whole box of coconut...
