  1. No problem. Happy to help!
  2. Oooh I hope I get this benefit! You could have been talking about my hair currently in your pre-gluten free description.
  3. Yeah, actually, I wasn't required to put anymore money on the card, but I did anyway because after a while I would accumulate enough points on it to get a free latte.
  4. I really had a hard time stiffling the giggles at these last posts! My hubby was snoring next to me and I didn't want to wake him up. Alas! I'm wide awake and jittery because we went to a coffee shop tonight to hear a friend perform and I forgot to ask for my latte decaf. I can remember before going off caffiene that I could go to sleep 5 minutes after...
  5. I was wondering how you make this wash/rinse? I have issues with hair loss and am wondering if this may help.
  6. Our Starbucks has a strange WiFi policy that is easily mistaken for needing to pay for it (and some of the baristas didn't understand it). You have to pick up one of their giftcards and put at least $5 on it. You can use this $5 for anything in the store, but you have to have an activated giftcard to be able to use the wifi (there is a code on the card...
  7. No problem I'm also told that Dangerous Grains is a good one too. It's also available digitally.
  8. I read somewhere this week (though exactly where escapes me) that the villi in the small intestine that are blunted by a gluten diet if you celiac have issues with digesting other things such as dairy. The tips of the villi is where lactase is absorbed and if it can't do that because the villi are blunted, well, that's how you become lactose intolerant....
  9. Yesterday I almost screamed in frustration when the trail mix I thought I could buy listed wheat as an ingredient.
  10. I'm starting to. I've only been gluten-free for a week, but when I started, I was just shy of having lost 30 lbs. I thought, "Well, I'll just not worry about my calorie intake just now and lose the rest after I figure out this gluten thing." But I weighed myself yesterday and I'm still losing the weight after all! I've reached my 30 lb loss so far and...
  11. There is a running joke in my family about me forgetting to send birthday (or Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc.)cards. They know I struggle just to remember to call. Sometimes I'll surprise them (and myself) when I remember to call. But inevitably, if it's someone's birthday, I'll get a call too as a reminder to call them. And as far as not remembering...
  12. Aww! Poor Irishheart! Definitely cling to your husband! My family all live quite a distance, but I'm fortunate enough to belong to a close knit church group. But I can relate to what your going through because of my dad. My parents moved to a small town in North Carolina and living out in the middle of the woods, they've tried to make good friends...
  13. You know, I actually get that. Especially when it comes to certain brands of coffee. I can't handle Starbuck's drip brewed coffee no matter how much milk I put in it, but I have no trouble with the lattes.
  14. Check the label on the mixed nuts. Yesterday, found a deal on trail mix and I thought, "Oh yeah, just nuts and berries, that'll be great!" But when I looked at the label, wheat was listed as an ingredient! Leave it to the manufacturers...
  15. *sighs* What a bummer! At least you're good with chai. I think if I had to give up both, I'd have a outright fit!
  16. Kudos to you for being so supportive to your daughter! This kind of thing is hard enough to do on your own and parents are such great inspirations. I hope all goes well for your family! I forgot to say, I love your sig! I've got the first part down pat, though my hubby complains about it. I'm getting better with the last part since having my kids...
  17. I'm reading Living Gluten-Free For Dummies by Danna Korn. What's really nice is I've got it digitally on my ereader, so I can highlight and make notes. Then when I go to the store, I can take it with me and look up the highlights so I know which ingredients to look for. There are a lot that I never would have thought of!
  18. It is possible to have a false negative. The book I've been reading even says that it can be attributed to lab techs who, if they see the celiac testing at all, rarely get requests for it, and tend to perform the test incorrectly. There are a number of reasons to get a false negative, but that one really stood out to me.
  19. I really feel for you! I'm in the same boat, though as far as I can tell my boys seem to be okay so far. I'm impatiently waiting for my blood test results because while I know I'm going to stay away from gluten anyway because it makes me feel better, my husband has a very practical and "scientific" mindset. It would make this adjustment a lot easier if...
  20. I was wondering for those others who have issues with coffee, do you mean any coffee, or can you drink decaf? I haven't had regular coffee for almost 4 years because I've been either pregnant or breastfeeding. I would really hate to find out later that I'd have to give up decaf too! I love putting cinnamon in the brew basket, mmm...
  21. I'm new to all this too, but I was wondering, couldn't you wear a mask over your face at the pizzaria, like an OR doc? Is that not enough? I'd actually like to know because baking is a hobbie of mine and even though I couldn't eat it, I still would like to bake with regular flour for my family and for potlucks.
  22. Hmm, if this indeed is celiac, my symptoms are usually all digestive. Maybe going gluten free is making me more sensitive to it. Thanks for the info
  23. I was wondering about a couple of things I'm going through. Keep in mind that I've been accidentally glutened a couple of times by either my boys or an ingredient I didn't recognize. First off, for about the last 4 days, I've had a painfully stiff neck every morning. I've tried Tylenol, heating pads, etc, but it only loosens up a little bit by the...
  24. Well, no wonder! I've been munching on the Halls for a cough, but I ran out so I switched to a generic brand today because they were in the cabinet. I didn't even think that "flavoring" would be questionable. I thought that maybe my kids cc'd me again today, though I was trying to be so careful.
  25. Oooh, We just go Red Robins in our area in the last 4 months. Since I just went gluten free, it seems like it's just in time! I hope they are that good here.
