  1. Well my third set of liver tests came back normal. So now I have no idea what was wrong. I don't really care as long as I am feeling better. I did end up with a bladder infection (from the catheter they insisted on using to get a clean urine sample!) and also a really nasty Staph. infection (from the needle they used for the demerol shots). It took one...
  2. Judy, Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I never got an e-mail telling me I had replies and just missed this one. Anyhow, I am NOT sure about anything in regards to what was going on with me. It didn't appear to be my sinuses, but it also doesn't appear that the liver enzymes thing and the headaches/dizziness/nausea were related. My son...
  3. I know that some canned tuna packed in water have a soy based vegetable broth in the "water" that is gluten-free, but could that possibly be bothering you with your allergy to soy? It could be that canned tuna also has this broth. Wat happens to you when you have soy, almonds and pork? how about milk? Just curious if the symptoms are GI related or upper...
  4. Nicolesmom, I would also be interested in hearing what Specialty Labs has to say. I had noticed that all the different labs seem to have different reference levels and was frustrated by that since some of my tests could then be considered positive, but I never got an answer from Specialty labs when I asked them this question. Maybe you will have better...
  5. I've had good meals at Denny's as well. The local one we visit has actually had quite a few people stop by who "can't eat wheat" and most of the staff I have encountered have at least been very accomadating. The only reason we don't eat there more often is because my kids end up eating a ton of bacon! That is about the only thing they want when we go there...
  6. I would like some input from others out there who have had/are having a similar problem. I have seen quite a few of you mention problems with elevated liver enzymes. I am having problems with elevated liver enzymes and pain (mild to severe) that comes and goes in my liver area, preceded (by about 2 days) and accompanied by a severe headache that lasted...
  7. Do NOT stop eating gluten until after your biopsy. It will affect the results. The lining of the intestines repairs relatively quickly and you will not get accurate results if you are gluten free even a week before the biopsy! You are not alone in your symptoms or your test results. All three of my kids tested positive on the IgG antibodies only. I...
  8. celiac3270, I finally got my order today. We opened the Amaranth-O's first. I got original flavor and strawberry. They both taste like dirt to me. We won't be eating them for breakfast, and I certainly don't recommend them. I will keep them on hand for projects where my daughter will need to strink cereal together. They look like the little macaroni...
  9. The relationship between celiac and psoriasis is that they are both auto-immune diseases. Meaning that the body is essentially attacking itself. Whenever you have one auto-immune disease you are at a higher risk of developing others. That is about the only connection that I know of though. I have psoriasis. So far it is mild, but over the years it...
  10. If you are strictly gluten free for a few months and you are taking the Lactaid supplements, but are still experiencing stomach issues when eating dairy, then it might be a good idea to try dairy free to see if casein might be an issue with you. Certainly there is no need to assume you are casein intolerant just because you are lactose intolerant....
  11. Some products in other countries (the UK, and maybe others) do allow CODEX wheat starch in their gluten free products. It does contain gluten but in a very low amount that they say doesn't cause symptoms. (but I still wonder if it will cause damage in the intestines over time and repeated consumption!) In the US this is not acceptable on the gluten-free...
  12. celiac3270, I will certainly let you know what we think about them as soon as they get here. I will still be able to use them for "cheerio" type school projects, but I am hoping they will taste alright. God bless, Mariann
  13. According to this first list it is gluten-free. But I would still contact the manufacturer to find out why the don't recommend using it for people with gastro diseases. Even gluten-free it might not be the best choice. I posted two lists and their websites, so you might be able to get your dentist to order you another kind. I hope you feel better soon...
  14. I bought my amaranth-o's from the Open Original Shared Link and I had other things to buy, so when you buy $75 worth of stuff your shipping is free. They have a good selection of gluten-free items, as well as other specialty diet foods for things like kosher, dairy free, low carb, etc. You chan cehck them out at the link I provided above. My order just...
  15. Casein is one of the main proteins in milk. It is in all forms of dairy, including the lactose free ones. It causes similar gastric problems in many people with celiac disease. Most doctors do not test for a casein intolerance, only lactose intolerance. Dr. Fine at Enterolab does a test for milk intolerance that can tell you if casein is your problem...
  16. celiac3270, I recently placed an order for these amaranth-o's. I bought them primarily for the O shape. My daughter needs them for school projects, but I am hoping they are edible. I have not met very many people who liked the taste. Burdee, Is there dairy actually in the cereal? Or are you avoiding the cereal now, because you don't like...
  17. celiac3270 I love the Arrowhead Mills Rice & Shine hot brown rice cereal. It is so much better tasting than the Cream of Rice cereal I buy at the regular store. I was very disappointed because my local Whole Foods stopped carrying this hot cereal! But I finally found it online and I'm waiting for a shipment of 6 boxes!! We like the Rice Crunch...
  18. I had a hiatal hernia when I had my biopsy. It was not severe, and it was also not there at an earlier endoscopic exam in 2001! I read that the endoscopic exam can actually cause a hiatal hernia. I don't know if that is actually true, but in my case I am suspicious. If yours is not very bad then there are things you can do to help your body to heal...
  19. FreyaUSA, Vance's DariFree is available online at a lot of specialty shops, like Gluten Free Pantry, Gluten Solutions, Shop-By-Diet, etc. But I have found it is cheaper to buy directly from Vance's. Here is a link to their site: Open Original Shared Link They also sell a soy-based drink mix, but as I am allergic to soy I have not tried it. gfinnebraska...
  20. Here is the direct link to the list I believe celiac3270 is referring to. I use this list and a Gluten-free Casein-free guidebook I bought to help me narrow down our choices. I find this list the most helpful for mainstream products. You still need to be reading EVERY label on everything you buy, but this list is free and it will get you started on figuring...
  21. We buy the Pacific Gold beef jerky all the time at Costco. It tends to be my boys favorite choice of protein for their lunches. I just wish they could make their Turkey Jerky to be gluten-free, since I get a little tired of beef... Thanks for posting the info Jessica. God bless, Mariann
  22. I gave up and got rid of my breadmaker. I know it helps if you mix and let rise separately and then use a bake only cycle on your machine. Or if there is a setting that has only one knead and rise cycle, instead of the traditional two, then you could use that. gluten-free flours act a little bit differently than wheat flour and breadmakers are typically...
  23. Whey is a milk protein. It is gluten-free. Mixed with other things, like in protein shakes it might not be totally gluten-free. Any products it is in, the other ingredients would still need to be checked. It is not acceptable if you are also avoiding dairy. God bless, Mariann
  24. Marilyn, I had a much easier time with the biopsy, than with the colonoscopy. Both procedures were fairly easy, but the prep kit for the colonoscopy made me very ill. For me it was the Fleet Phoso-soda drink. It is a laxative with a lot of sodium (6000mg per serving!) and it really bothered me. I threw up for days after the procedure and I still can...
  25. His Antigliadin IgG:29 was positive. This does not necessarily mean that gluten is his problem, but it does indicate that something is going on. I know it is frustrating to have to wait. You could try to call the Children's Hospital and request a sooner date, but they get busy and it is hard to get an appointment for right away. For us, I got the...
