  1. I have eye "aches" too, but mine are migraine related as well. never noticed a corrolation between gluten and the eye pain. Of course the migraines can be caused by gluten (or damage from the gluten). My eyes are fine, the eye doctor checks them every year, but when I get the eye ache pain I know I need to take it easy, and it I get even the slightest headache...
  2. I have a friend who recently was hospitalized due to an intestinal blockage, and he was told that most intestinal blockages are caused either by some structural problem (such as the scar tissue problem with your wife's intestines) or by a bacterial infection. They didn't find anything wrong structurally with his intestines and so they figured it was bacterial...
  3. I have a friend I have know for more than 5 years. Her husband (ex-husband now) was diagnosed 30 years ago, when it was virtually unheard of and he doesn't think the diet is something he has to follow 100%. His main symptoms are DH and migraines, as well as severe mood swings. Well he thinks it is okay to pick the chicken out of a pasta dish or have a...
  4. Yeah our church is a cool place for the kids, now. It wasn't always like that. We started loosing all of the teenagers that were graduating and when they looked around and saw that we had a bunch of young teens, but none of them wanted to come to church they had to rethink the whole youth program. It is working out really well.
  5. I've dealt with all of these situations myself over the years with my kids and I have a few suggestions if you are open to them. Whenever they are charging money for a pizza party I usually opt out of paying. I am providing food for my child and they do not have to buy her food, so they usually don't require it. I have never had any teacher get mad at...
  6. Our church youth group just got a new Jr. High Youth Pastor. He is this really cool young guy named Bruce (about 22) who just got back from doing missionary work in Brazil for the past 2 years with YWAM. He used to skateboard before he left for missionary training about 4 years ago and the kids have got him back into it. So last night they set up...
  7. Hi Reva, You don't really need to know anything about Lectins or Salicylates unless you have a sensitivity to them or are allergic to them. I don't think that they are related to Celiac at all. A few people on this site are sensitive/allergic to them, my son Jacob is allergic to aspirin, and since that is derived from salicylates we have to watch his...
  8. Okay, now that is a diet that I could not follow because it would eliminate chocolate! No way! I can live without gluten, but not without chocolate! But seriously, you should see me when I find a gluten free, dairy free, soy (protein) free chocolate bar. I buy at least 6 of them!
  9. You had a permanent tooth when you were 4?! I'm impressed. Most kids don't start losing their teeth that early.
  10. I wonder if the treatment would be different for a permanent tooth? Oh well, I'm not going to worry about it. It will probably be braces that will be the biggest worry, but so far none of the dentists we've seen has mentioned it at all for any of the kids...
  11. I also feel that it keeps me in a more positive frame of mind if I see following this diet as a choice that I have made. My sister also has a problem with gluten and will not seek a diagnosis because she has no plan to follow the diet. She is choosing instead to be sick all the time. She is choosing to get sicker every day. She thinks following the diet...
  12. It has been a few years since I checked on the Ghirardelli products, since they weren't safe for us. It was their chocolate chips that had listed gluten on the label a few years ago. Maybe they changed their processing since then. I guess I will have to check into it again. Now if only See's would get gluten out of their chocolate and peanut butter...
  13. Last year we had an issue at the school, but it was slightly different. The Principal at the school for 4th and 5th grades was handing out candy bars (Kit Kats) to all of the kids who scored high on the STAR tests when they were in 3rd grade (a completely different school!). Not only did my son's teacher get mad that they were giving then candy in school...
  14. Just curious how they removed the spot? My son has this on one of his permanent teeth (front and center!) and it bothers me. Anyhow, for us it has been not just discoloration and lots of cavities, but continued decay underneath crowns, pieces of enamel chipping off and stiff like that. My kids would brush and floss and still have 6-10 cavities filled...
  15. Yeah, thats the conclusion I came to also. I was really sick when I finally went gluten free for good, and knew I needed supplementation of vitamins. I just really wanted help with knowing how much of each kind I needed. I've been gluten-free for more than 4 years now and at this point I feel really healthy and don't feel I need any of those tests anymore...
  16. Jerry, thats great that you are already feeling better. The only downfall to not having a diagnosis is that I can't get the follow-up nutritional deficiency tests done that so many diagnosed Celiacs seem to get. I wanted to have a bone density scan and be tested for B-12, Iron, etc. and it was near to impossible to get it authorized by the insurance...
  17. I agree with both of you. I diagnosed myself and proceeded to make myself sicker eating gltuen trying to get a diagnosis. When none of my doctors would believe me, I went to Enterolab to confirm what I already knew. I knew that I need confirmation or else I might start to doubt myself once I was feeling 100% better. And then I knew I would occasionally...
  18. I do not buy any form of Ghirardelli chocolates, which is sad because my kids always want to go to Ghirardelli Square whenever we are near San Francisco (home of Ghirardelli chocolates). They remember getting free samples there before we knew there was gluten in some of their chocolate products...I have found quite a few that list wheat gluten on the allergen...
  19. Oh and Ben, you might have to wait more than a minute before people reply. This isn't live chat!
  20. Hi Ursula, Ben is my son, and he apparently can't add very well! Since he has only been a member here for a year and a half, but on the diet for almost 4 years! Middle school happened, that is why he hasn't been on the site for a while. 6th grade was challenging for the entire family. He has settled into 7th and is a serious skater now. ...
  21. I followed it for a while. I even went ahead and got the secretor test done. I was supprised to find I was a secretor since I had so many health problems that were more associated with non-sectretors. I am a type A-secretor. I wouldn't recommend the Blood Type Diet to others, but the funny thing is that I might still be eating gluten and feeling horrible...
  22. The K-toos and the Sharon's Coconut Sorbet are both soy (protein) free. I don't recall if either have soy oils in them, but I don't react to those. I've eaten both items without reaction, and even the slightest amount of soy protein makes me insanely itchy!
  23. Yeah, I can see where you are coming from Dessa. If you don't think you will stick with it, then it isn't worth spending the money to try it out. I was commited to 30 days, and then I would see after that, but it took me a while to make that first commitment. I refused to give up during that first 30 days. If you do decide to get serious about losing...
  24. Check out Isagenix. They don't say that their supplements are gluten free, but almost all of them are. You can read more about my success with their supplements by reading my posts at this topic: Open Original Shared Link
  25. That sounds so delicious! If I could find the Sharon's Coconut Sorbet around here, then I would make it. I might just have to make room in the ice chest next time I do my major shopping and pick some up from Whole Foods. I'll have to make the crust before hand, since the sorbet will be "softened" by the time I get it home!
