  1. You can just see a GP for a blood test can't you?
  2. Our house is totally gluten free to eliminate any of these issues. The gluten-free ones taste the same anyway.
  3. Alarm bells there for sure!
  4. I found there was a problem with the non-stick skillet, so bought a new one and gave the other one to a charity organisation for their shops. It was scratched so was a good place to catch gluten then spread it through whatever was cooking.
  5. My daughter has Autism too. We are also vegan. Some of her favourites are: Cottage pie made with lentils and whatever veg we have, topped with mashed potato Creamy pasta using coconut cream, roasted veg and gluten-free fettucini Stir-fry with tofu and heaps of veg Pasta with tomatoes, lentils, mushrooms, spinach, garlic, chives and black olives...
  6. Meals aren't the done thing over this way either. I would highly recommend a small bar-fridge sized upright freezer, it will come in so handy after you have a baby. I use mine all the time, it's where I keep all the pre-prepared meals and each drawer has different things in it. They are not expensive, and our power bill has remained the same. I bought...
  7. When my daughter was diagnosed, I was tested, my parents were tested and both brothers were tested. My mum tested positive, I did not, my brothers did not, but my nephew showed signs so my older brother removed gluten from their house too.
  8. Wow, a stool test hey...
  9. I've never used our can opener for anything other fruit and veg in a tin, and most of those even have a ring pull. Nothing with gluten in it has ever really come into our house in a can. Other than the couple of times I trialled my daughter on tinned spaghetti as a toddler, but they have a ring pull so no can opener needed, and haven't bought tinned spaghetti...
  10. Sick as, and lacking creativity. We have salad things but it's come in a little cool at 19 today so not really a salad type of night, and she has salad on her sandwiches for school anyway. No idea lol. Maybe a stew of some kind, we have mushrooms that need to be used, and 2 packs of tofu as well to get through. I like to use the contents of the fridge...
  11. We found a kitten at a foster carer through the RSPCA, beautiful little thing that came up on my FB newsfeed. I went to meet her, there were 28 cats in total from little kittens through to adults in this big room like a motel, all waiting for their furever homes, but this particular one really had me. She has beautiful, absolutely stunning, she is affectionate...
  12. No, last term they had fruit, this term they had sausage sizzle. We are only halfway through the school year here, and it's the same people organising it. Well, she missed out and she was very annoyed at them because 3 staff members offered her a sausage on bread and she hit the third one away because she shoved it right into her face, so my DD got in trouble...
  13. Those in cyclone and flood prone areas, are you prepared for the cyclone/wet season? What sort of things do you have in your pantry? It's probably in here somewhere, but the thread is so long and my eyes are so sore lol.
  14. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but glucose syrup (wheat) does NOT contain the protein that is gluten, but if you have a wheat allergy as well as gluten intolerance, stay away from their ice creams. My friend's little one was taken to hospital because they assumed "gluten free" meant "wheat free" and they bought a sundae, only to find out that it does...
  15. We're getting a pop corn maker for Christmas (in the shape of a dinosaur, it's adorable) so that's really good to know.
  16. I replaced heaps of stuff and went gluten-free for the whole house, this eliminates any chance of problems.
  17. Sausages on bread. Not at all suitable for a kid who is vegan and coeliac. If it's all about healthy living, why the heck does it need to be something that unhealthy at the end? Last term it was fruit.
  18. Yeah I wouldn't risk it for my daughter, I'm very particular about this type of thing.
  19. Once again, it might be different from country to country, but some of the flavoured coffees have gluten in them, but they are clearly labelled as containing gluten, or being produced in the same place as other products containing gluten. The regular coffees are fine, and it's those mixes that are not suitable where you just add water and they already have...
  20. My daughter's school has specialised walk to school days each term to get all the kids in together for a fun morning. Their "reward" tomorrow will be a breakfast of a sausage sizzle. So I just had to tell my daughter she has to miss out, I don't have time now to organise an alternative for her. Who has a freaking sausage sizzle for breakfast at school...
  21. My nephew was too young to be tested, so all gluten was removed from his diet then at 16 months he was given regular cereals, bread and pasta for a week, he screamed the whole time, so is now gluten free again. When he's older they will look at putting him back on it to have him tested, but for now they are happy to have a gluten-free diet, which means I...
  22. My kitty loves his bath, he sits in the bath tub and will meow until I go in and start to fill it for him. It has to be the right temperature, and I make it so it's only about 5cm deep and he doesn't like me to walk away while he's playing in the water, I get in big trouble for that. I'm bringing another one home from the shelter in a few weeks, she just...
  23. Not sure how it would go with cholesterol, but on the weekend I made up a pot of kidney beans, finely diced tomatoes, chives, mushrooms, chopped capsicum and finely diced onion, cooked it in a pot then had it with toast. I didn't have any because I was sick but my daughter said it was nice.
  24. Hi, anyone else from over my way at all?
  25. Hi, my name's Jo and I'm a cat slave too. Nice to meet you all! My cat wakes up really really early but he doesn't actually eat in the morning. He will only eat in the late afternoon. He likes to hunt my toes at around 4am, roughly an hour before we need to be up, and if he gets booted out he climbs the screens and makes a lot of noise.
