  1. I had a similar situation recently. A friend that I don't see often invited me to lunch. There was nowhere close to her that I could eat so she told me to bring my own food and we'd sit outside of the restaurant. So I did. However, all the smells coming from the restaurant were like torture! Then she invited me to a "cookie party" she was throwing the...
  2. My favorite is "I would DIE if I couldn't eat (insert gluten-filled food here) again!". Really??? You would literally die? Like kill yourself...because you couldn't eat your favorite food anymore? What a pathetic, sad life you must lead. Yeah it sucks sometimes, but I have so much more to live for!
  3. I'm naturally a blonde but I dye it red. Does that count?
  4. We may be heading there soon and I noticed on their website that they have a lot of gluten-free options. However, I'm wondering about cc. Anyone go recently who can share their experience? Thanks!
  5. That's what I was hoping for too. I was hoping with time they'd get better, but no such luck.
  6. I'm not 40 yet, but this happened at the same age for me as it did to my dad. I think it's just sucky genetics.
  7. Thanks! And yes, I am sure. 100% gluten-free home (there's even a sign on the front door) and we eat a whole foods, plant-based diet. I absolutely do react to lower levels and can tell instantly when I've been cc'd. It hasn't happened in a looooong time.
  8. I love that you shared your experience in the hospital! That is really food for thought!!! I'm sure it wasn't easy to share that and I'm so thankful that you did. I eat insanely healthy (a "nutritarian" diet, wholly plant-based) but I do get tempted from time to time to eat something I shouldn't. (Cheese is a nasty temptress!) Now I will think of...
  9. I've got the ins and outs of the diet down pat. I know with 100% certainty that no gluten is sneaking in to my diet. This is just dumb genetic luck I'm afraid.
  10. Both my parents have vision issues. In fact, my dad's issues began at the exact same age as mine. Mine are more severe however. I'm leaning toward believing this is just a case of bad genes unfortunately. I was really hoping that going gluten-free would be the miracle for my eyes that it has been for so many other areas of health for me!
  11. It is a bummer. It came on rapidly for my dad too, and at the same age. But I was just wishing that going gluten-free would be a magic cure-all. Turns out, not so much.
  12. Skylark, I am vegan, and I have all of my levels checked regularly. I just had an entire work-up six weeks ago and I am as healthy as a horse in all areas. Not missing a darned thing, vitamin or otherwise. That's why I was hoping this might be a celiac disease issue. Otherwise I feel like I'm just a slave to bad vision genetics.
  13. I just came back from my yearly eye exam and my eyes have, yet again, gotten worse. And this is not just your run-of-the-mill aging thing. My eye doctors are constantly surprised at the level of deterioration that is happening in my vision. I went from having 20/20 vision just five years ago to being a total mess now. When I was diagnosed with celiac...
  14. Big smile on my face as I read your post. I know that feeling very well! Welcome to "normal" aint' it great?!
  15. Casein is the protein found in all dairy.
  16. I second "Is That Gluten Free". Amazing app! The most expensive app I have ever bought ($7.99) but worth every penny and then some. Hubbie put it on his iPhone too.
  17. My mother did the same thing. Over the holidays she told me she knew she was "patient zero" and that my children and I got celiac disease from her. But she hasn't changed a damn thing. Makes me crazy, but what more can I do?
  18. This was our second gluten-free christmas dinner. Last year I made everything myself and spent the entire day in the kitchen (NOT something I enjoy in the least). This year I bought a meal pre-prepared from a local vegan and gluten-free restaurant. It was AWESOME! The whole family was impressed and I am absolutely stuffed to the gills! I will certainly...
  19. I voted because I have a lot of the GI stuff too. But the worst part for me is the migraines, ataxia and the seizures. I could deal with the stomach stuff but I HATE the neuro symptoms.
  20. Is there a polite way of telling them that you can't outgrow celiac disease? You could save the child's life.
  21. A friend recently invited my kids to a cookie making party. I politely declined, reminding her that they can't touch flour. She responded by saying "Oh I totally forgot! Could they just come and watch?" Ummm...yeah. Let's stand around and watch other kids make yummy things my kids can't eat while their friends get covered in gluten. Then they'll all...
  22. I love the way you phrased that! "How the doctors make their gold." I was shocked when a pediatric gastroenterologist wouldn't diagnosis my son after positive blood tests and a positive genetic test. He said the diet was "too hard" to do for the rest of his life and he would "only diagnosis with a positive endoscopy even though he was totally positive...
  23. 4. Lost count 5. 1-2 weeks
  24. I agree with Wjp. Why not make your own super yummy gluten-free dinner and bring it? There are some fantastic recipes online. I made my first ever gluten-free thanksgiving last year and it was a huge success! My family agreed that some of the dishes were actually better than their gluten filled counterparts! Make everyone jealous with your mouth watering...
  25. Tom2, I have used muscle testing too. In fact, whenever I go to my naturapath for my children she does muscle testing to make sure the homeopathic she's giving them will work. Since my little guy can't take any OTC medications at all without severe reactions, this method has, so far, worked well for us. I'm not sure I believe in it 100% but I certainly...
