ARCHIVED What To Put On Dh Lesions
pricklypear1971 replied to GFreeMO's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I use Vanicream lotion and Vaseline over that when they are really dry and flaky. I have to moisturize like crazy and pamper them. -
ARCHIVED No... This Can't Be Happening... Wait... Maybe It Is...
pricklypear1971 replied to Zen Baker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, you need to have a sincere moment with someone who can order a celiac blood panel ASAP because the longer you go gluten light Tge more likely you are to show a negative on them. As far as your symptoms go, sure, sounds like you have an issue with gluten if that's the only food you exclude and it's the one that makes you sick when you add it back... -

pricklypear1971 replied to hem's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, sometimes we do get a bit touchy about things. Then again, he could just be acting like a typical 16 year old brother, know what I mean? Think about it the next time the situation pops up. Do YOU think you're overreacting? Ask someone else who is there and get a third opinion. Go from there. -

ARCHIVED Could It Be?
pricklypear1971 replied to researchmomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I felt a difference in a week, but I was just beginning the 6 month roller coaster. I am now off antihistimines (was on a nasty one that was actually for psychiatric use but rx'ed by my derm for the rash) and am mostly DH free. If I get into too much iodone I get a little rash. Overall, much better. -
ARCHIVED Question About Dh And Testing For It.
pricklypear1971 replied to BellaBella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are other posters here with itchy spits, though I don't know about brown spots. I think there's a link with detox (gluten) and kidney or liver issues (detox). I itched like that for a few weeks. Was quite scary given the DH. Do a search for itching and see what you turn up on the forum. -
ARCHIVED Could It Be?
pricklypear1971 replied to researchmomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My doc considers me Celiac because of my DH appearing rash, blood results for vitamin deficiencies, and good results going gluten-free, and i have Hashimotos and probably endometriosis. I did not get blood work for antibodies (would have been pointless in retrospect given the steroids I was on) or an endoscopy (again, with DH and steroids would have probably... -

Prometheus reports all genes, alpha and beta I believe. Are you saying negative because that's what was written on the results or what you were told? My results (LabCorp) SAID NEGATIVE but I was half dq2, half dq8. But I had to see them and read it to get that info. -

I've had some translate 1:1, others need reducing. It's really an experiment. I think butter and liquid fats are less forgiving than shortening. Perhaps lard works like shortening since its solid. -
ARCHIVED My Favorite Gluten Free Meal And Snack Is . . .
pricklypear1971 replied to Debbie48's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd stay away from soup mixes and stuff. I know there are a few "regular" brands out there that are gluten-free but quite frankly it's just too much trouble IMO, to screen all of the ingredients. I season roasts with fresh diced onion, garlic, salt, pepper, perhaps some thyme and oregano, red wine for liquid. Roasts are great if you brown them in a skillet... -

I made brownies and the recipe cooks at a very low temp. The whipped egg whites and an additional egg worked like a dream. Same with cornbread. -

Thanks! I do have an oven toaster (no slice vertical one, though). I am liking Chebe so far. I really like the focaccia bread, as does hubby. FYI I think they serve it at The Ritz Carlton for gluten-free guests!!! I tried the pizza crust and I think I undercooked it but it was still ok. And FAST. Bought a pizza pan (holes in it) today so may try... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy?...so Frustrated!
pricklypear1971 replied to BellaBella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It would be interesting to know if your lab report was done by a laboratory group or local hospital, versus a university hospital or research center. There was a paper referenced here recently about labs/small hospitals under dx'ing endoscopy samples compared to physicians/university labs. That may explain a discrepancy between your doctor and the results... -
ARCHIVED A Cure For Celiac!
pricklypear1971 replied to ScarlettsMommy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was reading about it yesterday (I think it was in the news section), and the new pr really emphasized "damage to the villi" portion. Since that's just a portion of the problem, it seems, for a lot of patients I doubt it will be a cure-all. It is unknown, currently, the relationship between neuro symptoms and the villi. Also, what about DH? I'm sure... -
Tried these today. Yum. I used whole dates, and I think that plus the 3 tbs. of water was too much moisture. So, I'd lose the water and add the liquor slowly. Made them with pecans and rolled in powdered sugar instead of coconut (son said ick anyway, don't know why I bothered). Anyway, they're good! Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Sooo Tired...
pricklypear1971 replied to bbdailey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, it sounds like you need to stock with something for a month and see what happens. I know you're desperate to feel better. One thing you may look into is depression triggered by anesthesia. My step- grandfather goes into depression for 6 months every time he has it, and he also has thyroid disease. It may have just been unfortunate timing on that... -

Your step-father isn't a problem . My grandmother used to make fig preserves, now she has a hard time getting the figs or people to take the preserves. I made them one year. Love them! Good luck! -

ARCHIVED Sooo Tired...
pricklypear1971 replied to bbdailey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ok, let me see if I have this straight... You were dx'ed with Hashis and have hypo symptoms (which can also be Gluten) but your thyroid test results are normal (except TPO)? You have felt alternately better/worse while on the diet but vacillate on taking the thyroid meds? Well, if going gluten-free helped then keep it up. It is thought gluten problems... -

Jovial makes pretty good gluten-free fig newtons. I'm not trying to discourage you from baking, just letting you know there is something out there. I like them because they really do taste like "regular" food. I think it's because the fruit filling doesn't change and the dough doesn't have to puff. You may look up their ingredients and see what they use as... -
Yes. It's called withdrawal. And if you have yeast issues (sounds like you do from previous posts if I'm recalling correctly) its just that much harder for you. There are two ways to go about this. One, eat the gluten-free carb foods and wean yourself off. Two, go cold turkey and perhaps end the candida with the gluten. Every bit of carb you put in...

ARCHIVED If Rash Is Dh, Would Celiac Blood Panel Always Be +?
pricklypear1971 replied to wildwood's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Probably PubMed. Search the papers for celiac/DH and a lot will come up. I have dozens of articles marked, read stuff regularly, hard to keep it straight by memory.
