  1. Ok, here's a question.... It occurred to me that with the gluten thing it's better for me to have dinner parties at my house... And if I want to be fair I need to accommodate other food intolerances. So, for those of you who know....are other intolerances as tough to work around as gluten? Would a milk, egg, soy, etc. intolerant person be able to eat...
  2. Proper thyroid supplamentation is (rx hormone) only GOOD for you. I have never heard of any adverse effects in breastmilk.
  3. All I needed to read was "she will monitor it and put me on meds when it stops functioning". Find a new doc. Sit down and write a brief history (apx. dates, symptoms, dx) of what has happened. Take it to your PCP. Get your lab results from the doc who gave you the Hashis dx and take those. Tell her you are 1) having a racing heart 2) freezing cold all...
  4. Ok, so I've obviously spent my day reading stuff... But here's one thing I noticed about "gluten sensitive" vs. "Celiac". You get the label of "sensitive" if you don't have "intestinal damage". But intestinal damage CAN be present - the person reading the test can determine it isn't enough to qualify as Celiac. So, when you read articles saying ...
  5. This is an excellent idea. I noticed I now get nauseous if I don't have a regular bm (or need to go and can't at the moment). Also, what about seasonal allergies? Mine make me ill - I even get a fever from them. Are your ears ok? That can throw you off completely. What do you DO at 11 every day? Are you hungry? Do you go to a specific spot? Perform...
  6. Find a new doctor. Good thyroid doctors and Celiac doctors have a lot in common - they LISTEN to the patient. Also, like Celiac, some doctors don't run full thyroid panels and sometimes that could be revealing (meaning you may have abnormal levels on tests, if they would ever run them). Better thyroid docs treat "to make you feel better" not "in...
  7. Iodine is something YOU have to test. Most thyroid patients have very positive or very negative responses to it. So get an iodine supplament (and ONLY iodine) and try a bit of it. If you feel good, take it. If you feel bad, stop. Test it a few times to make sure. I don't know of any rx thyroid med with iodine added, is this a holistic supplament? Again...
  8. Well, all I saw was the clip on Hulu... but if that's as bad as it gets... quite frankly.... I think its rather accurate. Dad doesn't know what it is, jumps on the bandwagon. Mom is ready to pull her hair out but deals. Kid is less than thrilled. They have some overly helpful gluten-free friends (and she even makes good points about her skin, boobs not...
  9. Maltodextrin can be corn, at least in food in the US. I have no idea about cosmetics....I'd like to know, too.
  10. I would normally say putting a sticker on a fruit or veggie is overkill but after hearing what my FIL thinks contains gluten (like potatoes), it may not be too nuts.
  11. I agree the point is to be together....but am I missing something? What steps would there be unless it's a mixed household (therefore cc would be a consideration)?
  12. I give up, really. I'm not giving up on my health or gluten-free, but I am giving up on thinking about getting a dx. I've been going around in circles wondering if I should get this "very light" new rash (DH) biopsied. I've pretty much arrived at "no", because if it comes up negative I'm going to join the ranks of "tested but negative" and quite...
  13. You know, I wonder about the effectiveness of this idea.... Hang in there....let me explain. If your house is gluten-free, and unless you have severe dietary restrictions(meaning food groups are obviously missing - like dairy).....I wonder if "gluten-free" will be obvious??? My FIL dang sure didn't get it...he assumed I was serving him gluten bread...
  14. Your body is probably going through 200 changes right now, so yes it is probably an adjustment phase. Hang in there, I'm sure things will continue to evolve. If you start to have issues that worry you, consult your doc.
  15. Very interesting. Specifically the section about dx criteria. Open Original Shared Link
  16. Hon, I really don't know about your pain...what is causing it. I know it's terrible. If you are still in pain go back to the ER. Tell them about your history and tell them of your insurance situation and request the tests. Your other choice is to try going gluten-free, and see if it helps. Yes, you will have to back on gluten for testing...but if you...
  17. The doctor's reaction is not unusual and to most would be reasonable; however, if you suspect an issue with gluten (and you have a history that suggests you may, along with other major food allergens) you should get tested and try a gluten-free diet to confirm. A GP can order the above tests, as well as an ND. Don't let the ER doc's lack of Celiac suspicion...
  18. You might google celiac groups in your local area, some have kids groups too. That would be a great resource for both of you. You could meet other parents and ask questions and she could meet other celiac kids.
  19. I tried it the other night... Used half thecrecipe in a 9 inch cast iron skillet. I think I could have cooked it a bit more...but it was decent. I used olive oil instead of red sauce (topped with basil, mozerella, fresh tomato, garlic). Needed salt . It was very fast and easy.
  20. Well, I don't know if I've had a rash "like" yours but I have a gluten-sensitive rash that is probably DH. So, now you are pretty sure the rash responds to gluten...so stay away from gluten. There are several gluten sensitive rashes - eczema, psoriasis, DH, and some I can't spell yet. Having one or the other (or more than one, ick) is miserable. ...
  21. I've come to the conclusion the dx of Celiac via endoscopy is a dx of "severe intestinal damage by gluten". If I understand the testing correctly you can show damage but still not receive a positive test result. "lesser damage" can be caused by other things, but also be caused by gluten. I'll assume (and I know what that makes me) severe damage can...
  22. Quite frankly this makes me more ambivalent about ANY test. I mean jeez, really???? This is very problematic for at-risk populations (relatives of Celiacs, autoimmune patients) who are advised to undergo repeat testing to "catch" Celiac.
  23. I've had dry eyes for about ten years (probably more, but that's when they got really bad). I've noticed they seem to be doing better (I notice because my vision has improved without yawning ). I knew it was dry eyes when my vision was better after yawning... when I told my ophthalmologist about that they started pushing for collagen plugs... Now...
  24. I had a hard time with heat (and I live in AZ) while still on gluten... but that is better now. I did have a HORRIBLE time taking a shower after they gave me steroids... I couldn't handle the feeling of the water on my skin and the sound of the water at the same time. My adrenals were over stimulated. I was so whigged out by that I didn't notice if heat...
  25. I'm waiting til after the holidays to drop the big bomb on the whole family, but select members know - including my parents. At first my Mom said no way, my Dad is adamantly NO (and he won't change). I noticed in the last few weeks my Mom is phrasing things in certain ways... to let me know she's seeing how it goes with me before she jumps in. So,...
