  1. I know I sound like a broken record, but has your thyroid been screened? Not just tsh - but free t3/t4 and thyroid antibodies? That could be contributing (or solely responsible for) your depression. There's no doubt Celiac can be isolating. Adding depression on top makes it that much more difficult, I'm sure.
  2. Nutrient deficiencies can make you lose your hair...some Celiacs have a harder time recovering. Unless that study also says those Celiacs were screened for other issues like Hypithyroidism, nutrient deficiencies I wouldn't assume it's "simply" a "Celiac thing" you must live with.
  3. I've found Bob's has great recipes for their products. Check on their website.
  4. Perfect. I've found it's all in the attitude. But I hate. And I do mean HATE "I'm sorry", or "oh, that's terrible". You know what's terrible??? Being sick. And listening to other people who are sick, when they complain of symptoms that you know have a strong chance of being food related (and watching them shove that food down their throats). That...
  5. You can do this. It's as simple (and difficult) as eliminating gluten from your home and his diet. Has the doctor explained why the MRI is necessary since they've determined fatty liver via sonogram? Or should I say, why is it necessary right now? Postponing may help financially? As far as a scope for celiac, you've received great answers already. The...
  6. There are independent labs in the US, where you can order tests online and go to a lab for the draw. I suggest a thorough thyroid panel that way, if you can do it, rather than fighting with docs. Then, use the results to prove your point (hopefully you get a clear answer). In the US we have alternative practitioners like Naturapaths who can write rx for thyroid...
  7. If you have some pans that are irreplaceable loves (or don't know what to replace them with yet), you can line them with foil or parchment paper. I use parchment on all cookie sheets because gluten-free cookies stick -parchment allows you to pull them off the sheet to cool. I've lined favorite pans with foil, too, for baking. I found I like smaller pans...
  8. Thank you! It makes me feel so hopeful when I read posts like yours! Oh, I want to travel again!
  9. My son has few markers compared to your daughter - but is IMO, symptomatic. He has tested negative on blood and biopsy. Our house is gluten-free (except lately, when I let him have gluten at home - and now that's over) and he's become accustomed to the diet. If he went gluten-free now it would be so much easier than if I did it in the beginning, when I...
  10. And you will have those "you gotta be s_{#%<€* me" moments - when there's absolutely no reasonable explanation for anything. So roll with it (and your food/activity journal). Took me months to figure out viruses triggered an outbreak. Tooke months to figure out I was breaking out, but the lesions were too tiny to see in a reflection 3 ft away...
  11. There is a whole foods in NOLA. I've even heard of some bakeries that do gluten-free King Cakes...so all is not lost. I know Emeril's and CP will do gluten-free well. I haven't been to a hotel ANYWHERE (that has a kitchen, not buffet breakfast) that can't do something gluten-free. I've been pleasantly surprised. Sorry you're going to NOLA under those...
  12. I'm on a treadmill do pardon the mistakes... But tell hubs to brush his teeth and wash his hands with soap after eating gluten ,before touching/kissing you).
  13. I looked quite a bit yesterday, I'll keep looking. If it wasn't a direct mention, I was reading another article (via link) on a website that had a scrolling headline...and one article was on dh. I didn't save it because I wasn't on my computer/iPad...and now can't find it. Grrr. The gist was tcell involvement? It sounded quite a bit like what you read when...
  14. There's absolutely zero way (short if tubal ligation/hysterectomy/etc.) to guarantee you are infertile. The chance that Celiac has permanently impaired your fertility is low. Celiacs do have a high number of fertility issues compared to the general population; however, there have been no studies done. And many of us here have children...so, do the math...
  15. That's what I do. I do the hostessing and cooking. All they can bring are drinks or a specific item I tell them (and brand). My FIL was uncomfortable at first, but hunger trumps etiquette.
  16. Aside from bottled beer and an occasional treat (candy bar, etc.) that's how we do it. Gluten goes outside or at the table with a drop cloth. Then we got comfortable....and here I am.
  17. Yes, with a football helmet and pads when you meet the chef. Of the chef isn't on board, it's doomed. Tell your friend to deal with Chef first before you put your life in the line.
  18. Oops, your dh thread. It was either this sir OR in autoimmune mom. I'll check there later...
  19. Potato salad or baked beans - AFTER I remove my "safe" portion for me to eat, because they WILL cc it (assuming thers gluten). If it is a gluten-free event, be prepared to tell everyone every ingredient in it . Write down what you used.
  20. I'm not much help since I don't socialize at bbq's, etc. much. And when I do, my Dad is generally cooking and he knows what the deal is, so I don't get lots of flack. I just (try) to not let it get to me. I also don't do it that often, which may indeed help prevent me from getting frustrated. I just pack my stuff and eat when/what I want. It's usually...
  21. My son's body and brain did not appreciate the anasthesia. Behavior and stomach problems for a few months. That said, gluten withdrawal can do weird things. Has she been tested for vitamin deficiencies? She may need some supplements, especially as she learns to eat gluten-free. Sometimes we inadvertently skew our diet when we start. If she's deficient...
  22. Ok, I'm losing my mind and obviously didn't bookmark it...but I read something (medical) the other day about how dh outbreaks may not be so tied to antibodies. Yes, antibodies (from gluten) are present but they aren't the final determinant in a breakout. There's other involvement in the immune system/skin. Now I'll go nuts looking for it... Anyway, it was...
  23. A good workout (minus abs) works wonders. Don't know why.... I'm coming up on my 2 year gluten-free anniversary and I think this is the first time I've been cc'd in my own home. I'm pretty strict (or was) about incoming gluten: prepared, non crumbly items only. Recently broke the rule with some chip type stuff and junk food for kid. He s gotten a bit loose...
