  1. Great. Glad to hear there's fabulous gluten-free bread that apparently glutens people. Sigh. I bought some Gluten Free Pantry French bread mix today and 4 tiny loaf pans. Hope to make some mini loaves to freeze and then re-crisp in the oven.
  2. Not that I can eat sushi right now (iodine thing) , but this makes me want to cry. I dream about sushi. I like sashimi but I love sushi.
  3. I'm going to state flat-out I haven't read the above link.... But one study synopsis I read about wheat processed to remove the gluten really ticked me off. I don't remember the exact numbers but since a statistically insignificant number of celiacs were intolerant of the de-glutened wheat product it was deemed safe and non-reactive. That kinda made...
  4. Move your addiction to corn tortillas! Congrats on the diagnosis. Peruse Tge boards and ask lots of questions. You can still have pbj, just on different bread.
  5. Your doctor seems about as knowledgeable as your average doctor. Hey, maybe that's why it's so hard to get a celiac dx, a lot don't know what they're talking about???? Don't feel bad, I had a "thyroid" doctor tell me Armour was a bovine derivative.
  6. Yes, it's working. Thank you! It's nice just to have a headache and not want to vomit and scream.
  7. I but Trader Joes (if you have one). Preservative free, etc. But great price and taste.
  8. I grabbed some Tylenol extra strength. Can't nap now. And the sun is shining in AZ. Sitting at school waiting on my son, have the sun shield up and am hiding.
  9. Oh crap. I'm weaning off doxepin (was prescribedfor DH) and am on zero now, 2nd day and the migraines hot. Normally I'd take ibuprofen. What's Tge best sub, Tylenol???? Witch doctor??? Help!!!!
  10. I read about iodine as I was cooking shrimp etoufee. I said a few nasty things about my ancestors at that point.
  11. I've given up looking at rashes. I just do what works. Try a low-iodine diet. If you are already gluten free, reducing iodine should show at least some relief in the next few weeks. If that helps, it's a good indicator of DH.
  12. Yes and no. It made the lesions smaller and dryer but it seemed to interfere with healing. Almost like tgey were in a frozen state. If you want to test if it's DH, go on a low-iodine diet. That healed mine in 2 weeks when nothing else would touch it. Also, prednisone is nasty stuff. You may be chasing your tail for a while as your body adjusts.
  13. I haven't purchased much Kroger brand food; however, yes there could be gluten in it. Cc from lines, etc. I also have a problem buying pork. It's difficult to find it without being "enhanced with a solution". I don't know what's in the solutions but it makes me sick like gluten. I only buy it from places like Trader Joes or Whole Foods now. I can usually...
  14. I haven't seen gluten-free biscotti but I've heard of it. I bet there's a recipe somewhere.
  15. You may want to look into salicylates also. There are a good number of people with either DH or chronic hives that trigger by them. There's a description of a low- sal diet on the chronic urticaria site. My DH was diagnosed as chronic idiopathic autoimmune urticaria. It isn't. Mine wouldn't come and go over hours, but it could "deflate" in 24 hours and...
  16. I haven't had any problem with any "regular" long grain enriched white rice. I've used Safeway brand, Fry's brand, Mahatma, etc. No problem.
  17. And some people test false negative on bloodwork, no matter how much gluten they eat. You need to get a copy of your labs and see which tests were run. Then take it from there.
  18. Ok, this is the time of year I stock up on "emergency" supplies - cold meds, fever reducers, chicken soup, crackers.... And I am understating when I say its a whole new ball game this year. So, lets swap gluten-free, dh-friendly ideas here. My first questions is about ibuprofen. I keep hearing how it isn't good for Celiac and DH. Why exactly is that...
  19. Wow. Makes ME wonder. I get the hairdryer thing. My doctors call it "overstimulated adrenals" in my case - supposedly temporary from corticosteroids and gee - gluten and salicylates. I couldn't take a shower because that involved feeling something on my skin and hearing the water run. I can't imagine feeling that all the time. Kudos to you for figuring...
  20. So ever since The Great B Complex Debacle (too much isn't a good thing), my stomach has just been weird. I feel like I'm 28 again, having weird stomach issues - is it acid, do I have a bug, is it allergies?????? And the saddest, funniest part - I don't have C, don't have D - but since I go more than 1x a day I'm immediately suspicious. Evidently I'm not...
  21. I've tried King Arthur and Namaste, but not BRM. Namaste uses sorghum but no bean. Ironically, I like it a bit better than KAF. Maybe because I grew up on Roman Meal bread and that's what it reminds me of?
  22. Read the dermatitis herpetiformis section on this forum. You may want to try eliminating gluten AND reducing iodine in your diet. Your hives may be DH if you really do have gluten issues. If your hives respond to iodine withdrawal you're definitely on the right track. If they don't you can still have an issue with gluten or wheat, just not DH. Good...
  23. One note. If you start baking to sell, you will get a lot if questions about your ingredients sources. You're going to find gluten-free people are VERY picky. So, stick with reputable and traceable sources, and tell people what they are. You'd rather have someone say "oh, I can't eat Bob's Red Mill mix", rather than "I ate her cake and got so sick...
  24. No. Not everyone gets sick at their stomach. Some have very mild stomach issues, or no issues. Some develop reflux over long periods of exposure. Some get migraines, etc., vague symptoms re: other systems. The list goes on. The longer you eat it, the more intense your symptoms may become.
  25. Seaweed extracts in a lot of cosmetics. Ouch.
