ARCHIVED Pizza Sauce From Scratch
pricklypear1971 replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Blanch the tomatoes, remove skin, then purée and cook a bit. Skim off liquid. Or, just roast them like said above and spread them on the crust. I like that idea. I love roasted veggies on pizza. Do onions that way, too. -

They know there's a link, they don't know why - other than gluten intolerance screws everything up.Any research is encouraging. -

ARCHIVED Dermatitis Herpetiformis ... My Journey
pricklypear1971 replied to tinpins's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Theoretically you could make your own yogurt from milk that isn't high iodine. There may be carrageenan or another high iodine ingredient in the yogurt. Don't use commercial milk substitutes -all but one hemp milk has carrageenan and that one has sea salt... I personally make all veggie/fruit smoothies and do much better. Not so sweet. Try The Blender... -
ARCHIVED Does Gluten Exposure Start Your Period? Help!
pricklypear1971 replied to larissav's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you aren't being careful about cc you are probably exposed to gluten. And I would spot of my progesterone was too low. Gluten and thyroid messes with hormones, regardless of age. -

pricklypear1971 replied to wmramsel's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
If you can't accurately test for dh or celiac because she's been gluten-free - there is little reason to stop the steroids (unless you want her off). -
Carageenan is IODINE. I am very sensitive to freakin' carageenan. When I first went gluten-free and low iodine, an exposure would make me itch and break out. I have since normalized with my sensitivity to carageenan, but in the beginning while trying to get the dh to subside it was a horrid trigger. I'm so pleased you found a solution. Understand it isn...

ARCHIVED Surprised By Blood Tests
pricklypear1971 replied to Withjoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I assume you are at your scope right now... Yes, and no. You have two positives which are pretty strong indicators. You can get a positive TTG from having another autoimmune disease like Hashimotos. However, you have two positives...which really favors Celiac on top of Hashis (if that's your hypo problem). A regular IGA just means you have sufficient... -

ARCHIVED Nasty Rash, Other Skin Sx's, Dh? Pic
pricklypear1971 replied to wmramsel's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
There are two classes of antihistamines. Some people only respond to one. It's worthwhile to see if she does respond. Antihistamines can work in two ways - by addressing an allergy or by suppressing the immune system. They do help me if I'm in an autoimmune flare. They don't fix it, but they do help. It's a cheat, but a useful one. Use this chart to figure... -

I'd go by how it acts, especially if it is sensitive to iodine. I've seen dh look very different, person to person. Does she get relief from antihistamines? -

You could give him gluten in safer ways...things that aren't crumbly. Perhaps a wheat cereal that you can easily control, or even wheat bran in hot cereal. I've found crumbly things are NO NO's. they get everywhere, and a 3 year old will NOT discriminate about what she touches. And a 13 month old won't care where he spreads it . -

pricklypear1971 replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think that's normal. It will be easier as she gets older. And btw, your house has gluten in it...and she seems highly sensitive...have you considered a gluten-free household? Cc may explain her lingering symptoms of eczema. A low iodine diet may help with the dh type sores. -

I would ask about nutrient testing and AI disease monitoring - diabetes, thyroid, etc. that's important. -

What I would ask is if the Doc would write a letter stating she's gluten intolerant - for school, etc. because that's what you may NEED. If s/he will work with that, then you have a future with that Doc. If not, go elsewhere. -

Okay...you know she can't be accurately tested then, right? I'm not saying out her back on...just that she can't be accurately tested. Even for dh... You can get a NCGI dx, but you can't know if she has celiac without being able to test antibodies/scope. -

ARCHIVED Allergies Negative...on To Gi
pricklypear1971 replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Dh may be reduced by steroid creams, but usually it won't disappear. You need to tell the gi about the steroids. S/he may pooh pooh the possible effect on serological testing, but I would not take chances. Steroids are used to put AI diseases into remission - and it is documented as a testing contradiction. I don't know of any studies showing how much,... -

pricklypear1971 replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Google meds for classifications. Dh is a b%$@#. No polite way to put it. And getting a positive biopsy is difficult. I wonder many times if its because steroids are handed out first, used, then the rash biopsied. I was personally on steroid injections, creams, and pills. Yeah. -

Read this about dh biopsy. No, it does not come from the lesion but from next to it. Open Original Shared Link Stop using the steroids NOW. It can cause false negatives in serological and biopsy results. -

pricklypear1971 replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know you're scared, and I'm sorry your family is going through this. Considering what may be at stake, will your mother try gluten-free now? There's no reason not to. As we all know, it can't hurt...but may help tremendously.- 7 replies

You need to get into a dermatologist NOW, and discuss how testing will be done. You need to discuss how to communicate with the scheduling staff that the need is URGENT. I had to do this with my derm - he told me to call in to schedule as soon as I broke out, but the staff wouldn't do it...I had to ask for someone else at the office - it was a mess. The derm...
