  1. Yeah, I get the balance issues too. My ataxia hasn't even begun to clear up, but it's only been a month. I hear that's one of the slowest issues to resolve, if it ever does.
  2. Well, I won't say GOOD, but I'm glad I'm not alone. And I was a little taken aback that a stranger, pretty much, pointed it out to me.
  3. I HATE going back to foggy brain, after finally have it clear up! So not fair! *Stamps foot* I have loved every second of getting my brain back, so the neuro impairment I think is really the worst part of it for me. Sorry for the short responses, lovelies, still stoned. You know how it is. *sigh*
  4. Lol, stroking the furry wall. *Sigh* My shopping list is getting ever longer. Charcoal tabs, glucosamine, etc. This disease is freakin expensive!
  5. I got my worst cross contamination yesterday by far since I've gone gluten free, and I haven't yet narrowed down the culprit. My question is about neuro symptoms: Someone who doesn't know I'm celiac in the slightest noticed I had a drugged out affect last night, and also that I had widely dilated pupils. I also had a raging migraine (which is more normal...
  6. Celiac is diagnosed via endoscopy/biopsy, not colonoscopy. Also, though it may be expensive, genetic testing may be worth the money, to tease out the disease vectors and relationships in your family. If you and your husband are both symptomatic as well, it's unclear whether you you both have one or two celiac genes (I suspect one since you both seem to be...
  7. Been there, done that. Blacking out in the shower! Scared the hell out of my then boyfriend, who is now my fiance. He took it like such a champ, though. *Shudders* It took me two years and a trip to Europe to convince me of the merits of red wine after that little experiment.
  8. What shape is your rash? The reason I ask is your symptoms sound a great deal like lupus as well, and you're at about the right age for onset. It's not unusual for it to be triggered by a birth either. If it's in the shape of a butterfly, I'd say you need a diagnostician to discern between lupus and celiac. Also, the only way to know for sure is to...
  9. I was rapidly losing weight, but made a concerted effort to address the issue since my doctor freaks out about it every time I'm in her office. If I've lost even a few pounds, I get a stern talking to. What have you replaced your "gluten" diet with? You need to remember that you still need nutritionally dense foods off of gluten. I've found I had to reorder...
  10. Acid reflux sometimes ONLY resolves itself with a gluten free diet, according to some sources. I'd say, working through your doctor, try it for four weeks and see how you feel.
  11. Pricklypear- thanks for the advice! I shall have it looked into. Reba- The autoimmune portion of my immune system is overactive, yes, hence, Celiac. Too much self-recognition going on there. However, the fact that I get every passing bug seems to indicate that something else is going on with the rest of the immune system. Longitudinal studies have also...
  12. Gluten reactions can be anywhere from immediate to 24-72 hours after exposure. This is why it's recommended if you suspect celiac or gluten sensitivity, you keep a food log,so you know what you exposed yourself to and when. It also helps to keep track of brands, ingredients, restaurants, etc. every time you want to cook or go out. Also, different forms...

  15. Have you started using any new skin or hair products recently? Many times, a sudden change can be as a result not of diet, but of the beauty regimen. I would recommend throwing away any gluten-containing conditioners, lotions, soaps, lip balms, makeups, etc. Major, major source of overlooked cross contamination.
  16. I have no idea how difficult it is to get a small business loan where you are, but you've just identified a real market need in your area. Gluten Free is a growing market trend, fad or based on actual medical need, baking or savory, and I really don't think you have to give up your career as a chef to make it work. Lest you think you can't do it at a young...
  17. Hello all- this seems like a good place to ask. I had my TSH looked at in May and it was quite within the normal range, nothing to worry about. My severe onset of celiac symptoms, although in retrospect being at a low level for most of my life, became quite severe around the june, july, august timeframe. I've been gluten free for about a month and a half...
  18. This show is horrible #Whitney

  19. GFresh404- I think you're deliberately misunderstanding why so many people are upset. In which case, it's not possible for this conversation to be productive. It does bother me me that as a future celiac medical provider, you're not taking the concerns of celiacs seriously. But, then, that's par for the course.
  20. Seriously, are you listening #Doctors? I decided not to go to med school, because most of you are universally terrible at what you do!

  21. It certainly sounds as though you could have celiac, although you could have something else or in addition to celiac. My first suggestion would be to make an appointment with your GP and hopefully have them draw bloods, since it doesn't sound like you've gone gluten free yet. This is the best time to do testing. If you self-start on gluten free and want testing...
  22. But see, that's a really sad story. I suffered terribly from migraines for years and years. It was one of my very first symptoms, and no one could ever find a cause or an explanation. That your sister in law won't even *try* gluten free, just to see if it would help...I just want to throw up my hands some days. Even my own fiance, who's SEEN up close the...
  23. It's exactly this attitude that bothers me. It's okay to be rude as long as you don't know someone? This is why gluten-free is considered a fad diet, not a medical diet. It's also why celiac disease continues to be underdiagnosed to the tune of 95%.
  24. USian here, so I know nothing about the NHS. My doctor won't test me for gluten unless I challenge for at least two weeks. I think the newer tests are more sensitive? Anyway, I've already paid for private testing to do genetic tests, but I have no idea what's available in the UK. I'm sort of meh on the whole established medical hierarchy anyway, and don...
  25. According to the rules of random genetic assortment, you are equally likely to have DQ2 or DQ8. That is a 50/50 chance. Of course, there have been published accounts of nonrandom genetic assortment, but I'm not sure where the field is at in terms of celiac studies. For our sake, you should assume 50/50.
