ARCHIVED Is It Worth Seeing A Gi?

So I'm self diagnosed celiac. Short history here- lost forty lbs between the spring and fall, had terrible gastric issues, uncontrolled migraines, the whole nine yards. Went gluten free, and these problems immediately abated or decreased in severity to a manageable level. My rheumatologist suggested I see a GI anyway, to try for an official diagnosis...
  2. What were the ranges for your vitamin tests? The B-12 is about what I take sublingually, but I also go out of my way to drink B supplement drinks. There's one at GNC called FRS that was originally specifically designed as an energy supplement for cancer patients. I find it works tremendously well, even if it is a little pricey. The D you may still...
  3. Found an awesome community band I might join. There's actually a few that seem really promising. I don't care if they suck. I want to play!

  4. Applebees is terrible! I had to look up their gluten free menu on my smartphone when they were unwilling to even point out their gluten free regular menu items. Then they rushed us while I was going through their gluten free menu, coming back every three seconds to ask if we were ready. Their (few) gluten free items were unappetizing. Never doing that again...
  5. I have to reiterate that many if not all cellars are deficient in vitamins B and D as well as the trace mineral magnesium. If you are not supplementing these, it's unlikely you'll see improvement in your mental health as all of these are critical for proper brain and gut function. D regulates mood, B vitins are precursors to serotonin and mg is a cofactor...
  6. I DO have depression, anxiety, and brain fog, most of which I attribute to gluten. The anxiety and brain fog especially for me, but I'll explain a little bit more. My anxiety and brain fog are resolving on the gluten free diet. It is, as mushroom said, a slow process. I've been gluten free since September, and I usually know if I've been glutened or had...
  7. I was on Klonopin, for awhile, but the above poster is right. It turned me into a drugged out zombie. I hated it, and consider myself a drug addict because of it. I'm very bitter because of that experience, and seriously hate psychotherapeutic meds of any kind. I'm still on prozac and topamax, which off label is used for anxiety, but I'm hoping to be off...
  8. me too, plus migraine! And anxiety.
  9. Eh, I'm not holding my breath. Phase II is a long way from Phase IV, or on the market. Lots of products stall out in III or IV. Let alone getting through the FDA approval process here in the U.S. which is fraught with politics. Aside from all of which, it sounds like a weekly injection. Thanks but no thanks. I'm not giving the pharmaceutical industry...
  10. It sounds like the vaccine is developed on an antiquated or limited understanding of the spectrum of celiac and gluten intolerant symptoms. Perhaps. If it stops the body from attacking itself, in whatever capacity, in response to gluten, great! If it's only addressing the intestinal response, well, that's not so helpful for the thousands of us whose primary...
  11. Yet another reason why trusting biopsy results would be misguided at best. In the U.S. at least, they're rarely performed correctly! Open Original Shared Link Biopsies are only performed with the correct number of samples taken about 30% of the time. When they are performed with four or more samples, the rate of diagnosis of celiac disease increases...
  12. Anger is an appropriate response to injustice, wherever it may be found.

  13. It's not hypochondria if they test you and you really do have all these problems.

  14. The papers that are cited seem to indicate villous flattening in the presence of a lactose intolerance alone, but failed to separate the intestinal damage from the context of celiac disease. Does anyone know if milk intolerance BY ITSELF can cause intestinal damage via an immuno-response? The papers were also 20-30 years old. Any more recent info?
  15. May I suggest seeing a chiropractor? I know, I know, not another doctor! But mine has been amazingly accepting of my self diagnosed celiac, and is monitoring my blood tests through my PCP. He's very knowledgable about nutrition and celiac, and one of the first things he said to me was, "let's see what we can do to get you off these prescriptions." he also...
  16. I got an absolutely dirty look from my doctor when I asked her about testing options for celiac. I was already Gluten-Free at that point, because gluten just makes me sick sick sick. So I shrugged and continued with the diet. I don't need special accomOdations, nor do I need someone's permission to tell me what I can and can't eat. Since september my migraines...
  17. Guys, I got a captain jack coat from jay for Xmas! We went black Friday shopping.

  18. There are a couple of butterballs that are not gluten free in the frozen line. That is why my MIL got a fresh butterball instead. Sorry about the Thanksgiving mishap. Drink lots of water, get lots of sleep, and feel better!
  19. Not to question your dedication to gluten free, but how do you know you weren't exposed? The longer you stay off gluten, the smaller the amount it takes to cause an immune reaction. For me, it used to be pieces of bread, now it's literally traces of gluten in sauces that will leave me sick and nauseous for days. It sucks, because the tiniest amounts make...
  20. Intensely painful night. Horribly glutened yesterday, plus the ongoing hip issues. No sleep.

  21. Going to get my hip diagnosed here in a couple hours. Miserable pain. This year has been the year of health problems.

  22. "Need to look further into the situation." Um, what's to look at? Those cops attacked unarmed protestors unprovoked on the ground. #UCDAVIS

  23. Seriously, unless you are a billionaire, I'm not sure how you can't empathize with at least some of what #Ows is talking about.

  24. UPDATE PART 2: I found a chiropractor that specializes in celiac disease that's not five miles away from my house and where I work. I am spoiled for riches lately. I'm making an appointment tomorrow to get this damn back realigned and get this sciatic pain evaluated, because, this hurts like a you know what. They also say specifically that they specialize...
