  1. Some possibilities (in addition to the suggestion of adding a little more flour): 1- Baking soda/powder gets old and quits working. Perhaps getting a fresh box would help. 2-The oven could have been too hot, causing the cookies to spread out/melt before they had a chance to start cooking. 3-Using real butter in place of shortening/margarine can cause the...
  2. LMBO!!!!!!!! That video is HYSTERICAL!!!
  3. My experience was very much like CoolClimates. I signed up only to discover there is no one, not ONE, for MANY miles any any direction. Guess I'll just wait and hope, but I'm rather "mature" to wait for too long. LOL
  4. For baking breads (in loaf pans), my preference has always been glass or ceramic. I think using metal for breads makes them brown too fast on the outside while the inner part might not be quite finished yet, IMHO.
  5. Thanks for that little tidbit of info, Skylark. In addition to the things mentioned on my signature, I'm terribly allergic to mold (skin tests several times over my life). I love black pepper and I surely do miss it, but at least this makes some sense.
  6. When the Christmas decorations go up varies widely, but usually not until about the 10th of Dec. But, I live to leave them up until New Year's Day, also.
  7. I'm not absolutely certain of the number, but it's at least 20-30, perhaps 30+. I've often wondered the same thing. It will be interesting to see what the results are. I'm hoping a lot of people respond to your question.
  8. Have you considered using a gluten-free cake mix (like the Betty Crocker or Bob's Red Mill - whatever you like) and simply adding lemon extract (flavoring) to it? You can buy McCormick (gluten-free) lemon extract at lots of grocery stores.
  9. Hi, welcome to the group. I'm still new myself, but I can say it's really nice to have a group of people who share your concerns. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
  10. Thanks, new friends. I really appreciate your responses. Great ideas!!! I'm so glad to have found this site and this forum.
  11. I can't tolerate soy either. So far, just washing things really well (like you have already done) seems to work fine.
  12. CassP, I couldn't find any docs where I lived that would do anything other than tell me to take more pills. I wanted to get to the REASON that I was having D multiple times a day, making life miserable. So, I ordered a test kit called YorkTest. I didn't know the test would go back to the UK for processing, but it did. Of course, I had to pay for it...
  13. I guess I didn't do a good job of communicating. I'm looking for "heat". Spicy heat. In my part of the country, salsa is just as much as condiment as ketchup. I'm afraid there isn't much I can do about missing it.
  14. Hi, everybody. Due to multiple food intolerances, cooking from scratch is a must for me. So, I add my own spices. I'm really having trouble finding something to substitute for black pepper since it's one of the things I cannot have. Does anyone have a suggestion about something I could use in place of pepper? (I already use onion and garlic.) Cannot...
  15. Hi, Cinnamon. I know the original post was a long time ago, but I just read it this evening after doing a search because I'm looking for a substitute for black pepper. Yes, I cannot handle it, either!! I hope you are able to eat it safely again, but if not, at least you know there is someone else who can't have it, either.
  16. To begin, I don't happen to know of a soy intolerance group, or a dairy intolerance group, etc., so perhaps my opinion is from a narrow viewpoint, since I read and participate in this gluten intolerance forum. I do agree with your outlook that it might be easier (and it's certainly safer) to host a dinner party than to attend one someplace else. I do...
  17. Pamela's is good, but be careful if you can't handle dairy. Some of her products contain dairy. I didn't read and discovered it the hard way.
  18. I use Bob's Red Mill and haven't had any problems with it.
  19. The maltodextrin might be a problem. It can be made from different things, wheat being one of them.
  20. A wild idea here - if you are extremely sensitive to nickel, perhaps what you are reacting to is that your food has touched the nickel in your stainless steel flatware. Lots of stainless steel contains nickel. Maybe you could try using plastic for a few days, just to see if you see any difference?
  21. Mentholatum contains eucalyptus. Of course, I have no clue what things you might be allergic to, but I'm so allergic to eucalyptus I cannot even walk down the same aisle of the hobby store where it is stocked with the dried flowers, grasses, etc. without becoming sick. Perhaps you are having a reaction to eucalyptus.
  22. Hi, I don't know about the fructose situation. But, I do know that eating boiled eggs can cause lots of gas and bloating. And, Brussels sprouts can cause massive gas and bloating. Perhaps those things are contributing to the problems you are having.
  23. It is my understanding that as long as the items are not plastic (will have small pits and grooves that could contain gluten) or wood (again, could have gluten "hiding"), that you can thoroughly clean the things you have and continue to use them. Stainless steel can be scoured, glassware and porcelain could be thoroughly scrubbed. Non-stick should be thrown...
  24. Well, my post makes three of us looking for the same kind of doctor(s) in Oklahoma City. Maybe we can keep up with each other, even if only for moral support. I'm currently in Del City area, but considering moving Northwest. Went to the new Whole Foods for the first time this morning and was very pleased with their gluten-free, dairy-free...
  25. Sounds, you mean like bird calls or sirens or something? Just kidding. Lots and lots of gut noises. Have had them all my life. Mine are especially loud immediately after my first few bites, if I'm really hungry. Do you have pain, or just sounds?
