ARCHIVED Carnation Instant Breakfast
frenchiemama replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Did you get the powdered kind or the ready to drink kind? I don't know anything about the powder, but I know for a fact that the vanilla ready to drink has gluten in it. -
ARCHIVED Growth/nodule On Thyroid?
frenchiemama replied to frenchiemama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ok. Well I'm back from the doctor. They did the ultrasound and took blood to check thyroid function, but didn't do the biopsy. I was a little confused, because the doctor made it sound like it was all done at the same time, but apparently he didn't order it. Anyway, it's huge. Huge. Like walnut sized. I'm feeling a little freaked out. I hope that they... -
I was at the allergist yesterday and he found a lump on the left side of my thyroid. I'm just on my way to get an ultrasound and (I think) a needle biopsy done (do that do that on the same day? I have no idea). I'm a bit nervous. Anyone else had one? What ended up happening?

ARCHIVED What (in Your Opinion) Is The Best Place In The World To Travel
frenchiemama replied to frenchiemama's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Does *everything* have wheat starch in it? I'll admit, that makes me somewhat reluctant to go back to Europe. I don't want to eat wheat starch, as I am very sensitive. I have only travelled two places since diagnosis (as opposed to before, when I lived for travel). Las Vegas (ok, I didn't get sick) and Anaheim (for a conference). Anaheim was by far the... -

ARCHIVED How/where Do I Find...? Is It Necessary..?
frenchiemama replied to Creative-Soul's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have separate cutting board, utensils, cookware, etc. because my husband doesn't cook. If he eats gluten stuff in the house it's either a frozen pizza or takeout. I got a new toaster and new baking pans (after making myself sick using my old baking pans) but nothing else. Even when I ate gluten things, they never would have been on my cutting boards... -
ARCHIVED Coffee?
frenchiemama replied to brizzo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never noticed that coffee bothered my skin, but it sure does a number on my stomach. I haven't been able to drink it in years. -
ARCHIVED Oh My Gosh, Winter Has Arrived
frenchiemama replied to Ursa Major's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's snowing (lightly) here today, too. It did just a tiny bit yesterday but it was about 10 degrees warmer. -
ARCHIVED Positive Test....skin Symptoms Not Typical
frenchiemama replied to brizzo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I know that it is fairly common to get DH on the scalp. Only on the scalp? Not sure, but everyone is different. DH is always supposed to be symmetric, but I have one spot that isn't (I got it on both hands, both knees, both ankles, but only one elbow). Not typical, but not impossible either. -

ARCHIVED Dayquil And Nyquil Gel Caps?
frenchiemama posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know that dayquil and nyquil are both gluten-free, and I read the box for the gel caps and saw nothing that indicated gluten to me, and I'm not feeling glutened either but my eczema is breaking out really bad. What could be in these? My whole right hand is just a disaster and I can barely bend my fingers. -
That is my biggest annoyance. My husband, who normally is very sensitive to my needs and understanding always would eat (gluten) while he was on the computer. He would eat, wipe his hand on a napkin, and then put his hand on the mouse or keyboard. I asked and asked and asked and asked him not to do it. He continued to do it claiming "I wipe my hands, that...

As far as I know, sashimi=raw fish only and nigiri sushi=raw fish with rice. -
ARCHIVED More Suseptable To Catching Staph?
frenchiemama replied to SarahTorg's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Staph is everywhere. There is staph on your skin right now, mine too. Having an active rash will make you more susceptible to an infection, but you could just as easily pick up an infection from shopping at the mall as you could from this person's house. -

I haven't run into an unsafe wasabi. Just make sure to ask, they should be able to tell you. -
ARCHIVED Glutened....with Flour.
frenchiemama replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It never ceases to amaze me that so many grown people don't know that white flour is made from wheat. What exactly do they think it's made from? Something called "white"? -

You live in a place called Wheatland? Wheat-land? OMG, move! That is hilarious. -
ARCHIVED Some Advice Needed
frenchiemama replied to Celiac's Husband's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is she struggling with the diet, or feeling like she isn't eating a balanced diet? If not, a dietitian probably wouldn't be worthwhile. I recently went to one, who is experienced with celiac and works with local support groups, because of my other food problems. While I wouldn't say that it was a wasted effort, I really didn't learn anything that I didn't... -

Just try the diet for a while. If you feel better, that's all the answer you need. -

ARCHIVED It's Easier To Cheat...
frenchiemama replied to Shalia's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yep, that's pretty much it. -
If you can't find store-bought gluten-free dog treats, I'm sure that your dog would be perfectly happy to get little bits of apple (with or without peanut butter), baby carrots, banana, virtually any fruit or veggie. (NO grapes, onions or macadamia nuts). That's what my dogs get. Or if she's really good, little bits of hotdog.

ARCHIVED It's Easier To Cheat...
frenchiemama replied to Shalia's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, I'm a simple creature. The one and only reason that I occasionally cheat with dairy and soy is that the benefit (enjoying a food that I love) is worth enduring the consequences (insomnia and eczema). I don't want to live that way, but it's hard for me to give up what I love without severe penalties (as with gluten). -

Speaking for myself only here, it isn't as though I eat those things because they make me sick. I eat them in spite of the fact that they make me sick (well, not really sick. Just major eczema). I didn't set out to eat sushi w/ soy sauce because I have some latent desire to harm myself. I did it because it's something that I LOVE and I can't bear the thought...
