  1. I know just who you can ask about Hayward: Julie from Grandma Ferdon's foods (which is in Hayward). I don't remember her email address, but the website is www.grandmaferdons.com and you can contact her via email through the site. She is very nice and very helpful.
  2. Are there any store-bought frostings that are dairy free? If not, does anyone have a recipe? I want cake.
  3. Ok, now I'm breaking out all over the place. It has been 6 days since I tested myself with dairy, I never would have suspected a relationship after this long if others hadn't said something about delayed reactions. Very interesting.
  4. I left a comment on her blog. "When I first heard of the ignorant “fussy” food statement regarding gluten and dairy I thought, “No, that can’t be right. She must have been misquoted. Surely anyone would do even a modest amount of research before making such a claim against gluten and dairy free diets.” Sadly, I was wrong. I can’t tell you how disappointe...
  5. It's possible that something will happen, but hasn't yet. My elbow is feeling a little itchy. I guess I was expecting an instant reaction like I get with gluten (start feeling sick almost as soon as the food hits my stomach and my skin breaks out within an hour or two). I was just reluctant to accept the relationship on the basis of the eczema going away...
  6. Ok, here is the evidence: - bad hand eczema, especially bad in the past 6 months or so, but nearly always present. - apparent corrolation between dairy consumption and temporary worsening of skin problems - stopped eating dairy, skin cleared up within days. Hasn't been this clear since I don't even know when. - "tested" last night, at 3 spoonfuls of ice...
  7. I just got a Zojirushi (just got as in 2 days ago) and have made one loaf of bread. It was good! The zoji is expensive, I paid $217 (incl shipping) from amazon .com but it's worth it. I made a mix that I bought at the store and it turned out very well. Even my husband liked it.
  8. Mine was like that. That fluid is the interstitial fluid being released as cell boundaries break down in the damaged areas. It's gross, but it isn't going to hurt you. Mine used to just run like that also, if you have a good (prescription) steriod cream that will help to stop it. Otherwise (and this is nasty, I know) just try to wear cotton clothes (like...
  9. You should post a picture, I love me some frenchies! Would you be interested in a very loveable older gentleman who likes cuddles, running after his ball, and long walks on the beach? (j/k. Mostly )
  10. Actually it's pictures of my THREE french bulldogs! We have three of our own and currently have one foster (French Bulldog Rescue Network).
  11. I was talking about adjusting the baking and rising times, I thought that maybe a 1.5lb loaf wouldn't need to bake for as long as a 2lb loaf would. But then I just thought "what the heck" and tried it on the 2 lb setting and it turned out just fine.
  12. I found the gluten-free program instructions for the zoji on the gluten free pantry website, but it's only for a 2 lbs loaf. I have a bread mix that makes a 1.5lb loaf, how do I adjust it for making a smaller loaf?
  13. Did you start feeling REALLY hungry all the time after you cut out gluten or dairy? Just constantly. When I first had to eliminate gluten, I was starving all of the time and I felt like I could never eat enough. I also dropped about 10lbs in the first few weeks. Well now I've had to eliminate dairy and I'm having the same thing. I'm SO hungry all of...
  14. Every Lindt wrapper that I've looked at lists barley malt in the ingredients.
  15. Before I went gluten-free I was nothing but bruises. Once I counted 40, and they weren't little. They were big and dark. My doctor asked me if I was being beaten at home, then tested me for everything from leukemia to AIDS. After being gluten-free, I bruise about like a normal person would. I think that I still might be a little easier, but not bad.
  16. Yep, they are extra-crispy and skinny like McDonald's fries are. (they actually look like regular fast food fries)
  17. I'm not sure if it's specifically casien that is my problem, but dairy makes my eczema flare up.
  18. I can 100% personally guarantee you that Nestle formulas are gluten-free, and I can 99.999% assure you that the other brands are as well. Infant formula production is regulated far more strictly than normal food (look up the Infant Formula Act online if you wish to see) and there is no way that a major allergen would go unlabeled.
  19. Someone just gave me a really good looking recipe using quinoa yesterday, haven't tried it yet though. 1 c quinoa 2 c water 2 medium tomatoes, cut into cubes 1 medium onion or 6 green onions, finely chopped 1 medium cucumber, peeled and cut into cubes 1 small green pepper, seeded and cut into 1/2 inch cubes (optional) 1 bunch parsley, finely chopped...
  20. Off topic - Victor, your son looks just like my younger brother when he was little.
  21. They are good! They taste just about like the real thing, and they are very crispy right from the oven.
  22. Quality control at an infant formula and clinical nutrition manufacturing plant.
  23. I have to taste-test whey protein concentrate and sugar lactose as part of my job, just a little bit and I don't swallow it. Do you think that will cause me problems?
  24. Just a little update, I've been 100% dairy free for 3 days now and my hands are totally clear. I want cheese, but I sure do like having clear skin on my hands (and it was also starting to spread to my left elbow and ankles).
  25. Thanks for all the tips guys, that answers my questions...for now! I'm sure I'll be back.
