  1. I really despise the idea of being considered "trendy" for any reason, and I care much less for the idea of a disease being "trendy". Puke.
  2. I'm not really interested in the clan thomson stuff, I used that at first but I have found more helpful things. What I want is something that I can use to look at .doc and .pdf files. It would be really helpful, for example, when I'm visiting my dad and he has something of brand X in the fridge that I want to eat or if we go to his grocery store and I can...
  3. That is very interesting.
  4. I'm thinking about getting a PDA to manage my gluten-free info, especially while travelling. I don't need anything fancy (read: I don't want to spend $500). If you have one, which one do you have and how much was it? Thanks.
  5. I will be perfectly happy if I can just gorge myself on crab legs. So you think that those are ok at the Rio? Is the butter safe do you think? I've never been there, but husb has and he really liked it. I want to go somewhere that we can both enjoy.
  6. Where can I go for great seafood in Vegas? I've heard good things about the seafood buffet at the Rio, but is it safe to eat there? Any other ideas?
  7. I was just thinking about this the other night. I know that wheat is the gluten source that we have to be the most watchful for, but are any of the other glutens more or less harmful than wheat? I ask because I was thinking about gardettos, and how I used to have the WORST gas (I could chase myself out of a room ) and stomach upset after eating them (or...
  8. Oh no, my husband said that he totally understood why I didn't want to eat after that and my MIL didn't say anything about it. I didn't make a scene or anything, I just quietly said "No thanks, I don't feel comfortable with this". I just feel bad because the manager was so nice! If he was jerky about it I wouldn't feel bad at all.
  9. I went to lunch with my husband and his mother today, to a restaurant where I have never had any problems. Must have been the lunch rush or something, but they brought my food out to me with BREAD on the plate (after my server had specifically written down NO BREAD on the ticket). I told them that it was wrong and I would need a new plate, the manager came...
  10. I had accupuncture for a back injury, it was fab. I would do it again and in fact, I'm thinking about going once a month just to de-stress (my ins. covers 50% for "alternative" medicine). I went once when I had a cold and she stuck a few needles around my face and head and I could breath for the rest of the day! Never tried it for stomach issues though.
  11. I just say "Yeah, I guess it's a good thing that I am so much tougher than you are."
  12. I would really like to see gluten-free frozen ravioli. I used to love those.
  13. Actually I just watched a travel show on Peru tonight (I've always wanted to go myself) and I didn't see once slice of bread on the entire show! It's kind of a travel/food show so they always pay a lot of attention to the food and it seemed like everything was made out of fresh ingredients or potatoes. I didn't see one scrap of wheat on the whole show, even...
  14. There are several good quality foods that are gluten-free. The ones that I can think of off the top of my head are: Natural Balance (potato & duck, sweet potato & fish, and venison & rice) California Natural (lamb & rice, chicken & rice, herring & sweet potato) Nature's Variety (venison) Canidae Innova EVO Timberwolf Organics...
  15. That's not true. Nope. I live in Wisconsin and there are not a lot of gluten free things at walmart.
  16. If you read the package insert that comes with your pills you will see that it says you should use back up if you have a lot of vomitting or D, maybe that is the reason? I would think that once going gluten-free and healing the effectiveness would be the same as that of a non-celiac.
  17. I was like that when I was a kid. Strep throat a couple of times a year, bronchitis, tonsilitis, you name it. I was out sick so much that they once sent a social worker to talk to my mom because they thought she was doing something to me. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 27 though, so I don't know if it would be related.
  18. Ah-HA! Thank you for that tip. That is something that I've always wondered about, my mom always kept butter in the fridge but some of my friend's mom's kept it on the counter. I could never wrap my head around keeping a dairy product out on the counter though (esp because of my mom, she even kept PEANUT butter in the fridge. I think she was a little paranoid...
  19. Sodium Lactate is another name for Lactic Acid, and I do believe that it is found in milk (among other places).
  20. Those recipes look really good, thanks for sharing!
  21. I'm actually not sure why so many people took my comment as hostile. I was irritated by the initial attitude, yes. I am blunt, yes. I have never in my life been accused of being a people person, nor is my last name Sunshine. I also don't really feel the need to force the horse's head into the water once it has been led there. My answer to people who ask ...
  22. Rusla, can you share the recipe? That sounds great! I love quiche.
  23. Rumor has it that an Outback is being built in my area, I can't wait! I've only eaten there a couple of times, but both times the staff was very careful and understanding.
  24. Oh yes. I have been glutened by mistake. Mostly by restaurant staff who don't take my requests seriously (once I get sick at a place, I don't go back. My "safe" restaurant list is getting very, very short.) and even by my loving and thoughtful husband, who didn't realize that making my gluten-free pizza on the oven rack where he cooks his regular pizzas was...
