  1. I made it 5 months this time. I'm not sure what it was, maybe you guys can help? That night I ate: 2 frozen Amy's meals (I was on a 12 hour shift, so I don't eat before I go to work but I eat 2 meals there) Genisoy garlic and onion soy crisps applesauce (that can't be it) too many gummi Lifesavers candies Any ideas? Of course it could just have...
  2. When I'm at home, or just eating my packed lunch at work. I almost never think about it at home. But when it's time for me to go somewhere, or when everyone is talking about some great new restaurant, I'm very aware.
  3. This just in: The Shanghai Bistro in Eau Claire stocks gluten-free soy sauce! They have San-J available on request. (This is the place that used to be YenKing, on Craig Road just off of 37).
  4. Try San-J wheat free tamari. Far superior to La Choy, IMO.
  5. Backstory: I'm positive that my father is a celiac also. He has a lot of symptoms, I have it, and his first cousin has it. I convinced him to go get tested. So he made an appt with a GI, which he had to wait ~6 weeks for. During that 6 weeks, he went almost completely gluten-free (I know he wasn't totally gluten-free, because when I went to his house he...
  6. Not that I would EVER do it, but I do sometimes get the urge to try it "just to see what happens." I'm just like that in general though, I always want to test things just to see what happens. I can assure you that the outcomes are not always good. (I'm the kid who would want to stick a fork in an outlet, just to see what happens. And the more I'm warned...
  7. Oh how funny! We actually live on Silver Springs Drive, right on Lowes Creek. The Asian Cafe is worth a try. They have been so helpful and nice, I would be happy to take you there with me some time. The first time I went I brought a dining card with me (it was actually the first place I ate out after diagnosis and I was SCARED!) and they really took time...
  8. YES!!! I used to get them ALL THE TIME and all over, once I had one almost the size of an egg on my stomach. It was horrid. Mine were always really huge and very painful. Once I had one on the inside of my ear and they almost hospitalized me over it because they were worried about the infection spreading to my brain. And now, knock on wood, I haven't gotten...
  9. I lived in Chippewa for years, but just last week my husband and I moved to the southside of Eau Claire (right off 37, near Silver Springs). There is indeed going to be an outback in EC, it's behind Best Buy. My favorite place to eat is the Asian Cafe, it's on Eddy Lane (right across from Sam Davey school). They are sooo nice there and if you go in...
  10. Yes, and it makes me barf (and I'm talking maybe 1-2 glasses, so it's not like I get drunk). I can drink anything else with no problems, but wine just doesn't agree with me at all.
  11. Ug, I have this cluster of plantar warts on my foot that I cannot for the life of me get rid of. I have been to the doctor and had them frozen twice and also tried a myriad of OTC stuff. They just keep coming back. I hate them. I'm going to see if my dermatologist can laser them off or something.
  12. It's either going to be cross contamination, or maybe a gluten-containing ingredient that was overlooked (such as a seasoning or something).
  13. Yes, it was nice of her to send it. I actually do appreciate the thought, I just wish it were a different restaurant. Oh well. Hey, maybe we can use it to bribe our friends into helping us move.
  14. Yeah, they do. I've tried and I found the choices to be very bland and uninteresting. Plus, I was not impressed by the competency of their staff (I really, really hate it when I explain my needs to the waitress and she says "Oh. Ok, well would you like to start off with some breadsticks?")
  15. Oh, someone will be able to use it. I know that they have a couple of gluten-free items, but a) ew, I don't like my choices and I don't trust them. eta Interesting, that smiley face was supposed to be a 'b' with a close parenthesis ')'. Whatever.
  16. enclosed was a $40 gift card to the Olive Garden. *sigh* Oh well, maybe my husband can take his mom out to lunch or something.
  17. RE: IUDs It isn't the age that is a problem. Doctors do not want to give them to women who are not in long term monogamous relationships, having multiple partners can be very dangerous with an IUD. If a woman with an IUD gets an STI, there is a higher risk of serious illness/permanent damage (PID) because the strings from the IUD allow the infection to travel...
  18. Have you tried steaming them? That improves the texture a lot.
  19. OreIda makes fries called Fast Food Fries that are really good, and definitely gluten-free.
  20. Oh I know! "I thought you couldn't eat that!" I don't know if they honestly think that I forgot what I can and cannot eat, or if they are trying to "bust" me cheating on my diet (and thereby prove that it's not a big deal, just like they suspected all along). Either way, it's freaking annoying.
  21. I wouldn't eat anything from there, even if they did claim to have gluten-free items. They put the bread right on the grill and it touches the spatula, too. The also don't have a dedicated fryer for the french fries (at least not the one at our mall).
  22. How about organizing an "eat in" or an "eating for awareness" campaign? People could post all of the safe restaurants in their area, and on a chosen day everyone would go out to eat with their families wearing T-shirts with some kind of logo or slogan on them. Or maybe pick certain restaurants and everyone in the area would descend en mass to eat dinner....
  23. I am. I made myself SOOOOO sick once by making a pan of gluten-free brownies (and they were from a totally gluten-free brand, so it wasn't in the mix) using one of my old baking pans. I thought "Well it looks clean, it's been washed; it should be fine." WRONG!
  24. I hate when my coworkers tell me that I should try some great new restaurant. "That place has the BEST burgers! You should go there sometime." Ugh. Then I tell them (again, for the millionth time) that although I would like to eat there, I can't. Which they respond to with a blank stare and then say "Oh....right....." I KNOW that not everyone is obligated...
  25. I have both DH and eczema, and the eczema is really starting to spread (to many of the places that I normally break out with DH actually). A few weeks ago I went dairy free, and my eczema was gone within a few days. Then about a week or so later, I "tested" with dairy (just a little, 2-3 spoons of ice cream and a bite of cheese). About a week after that I...
