  1. Gliadin is the protien found in wheat. Gluten is just a generic name for the protiens found in grains, the specific names are gliadin for wheat, hordien for barley, avenin for oats, and secalin for rye.
  2. I like to leave my peeps open in the fridge so that they get all cold and hard. Then I bite off the heads.
  3. I take zyrtec also, and I'm very happy with it. I also use nasonex spray.
  4. Just buy plain, uniodized table salt. I get Mortons.
  5. I went through a phase like that too. For a few weeks it seemed like I could never get enough to eat. I was just starving constantly. It eventually settled down.
  6. Iodine catalyzes the skin reaction, so avoiding seafood and iodized table salt for a few months will help your skin heal. Now that I have been gluten free for 10 months I only get DH flares if I've had gluten, and they aren't nearly as bad as they used to be. Not even close. But it's still not very pleasant.
  7. I had a bad reaction to Dapsone and couldn't take it. It took several months for my DH to get better after going gluten-free, I would say about 4-5 months. I now use tetracycline and B3 to control flare-ups from glutening.
  8. We ate at the Napa Valley Grille at the MOA for our anniversary last year, I spoke with the manager ahead of time and he was SO helpful. I had a wonderful meal.
  9. Funny you should mention crab rangoons. That is the one food that truly makes me want to cry when I have to sit and watch someone else eat it.
  10. Kikis, I just sent you a private message!
  11. Dermatitis can be caused be any number of things. Dermatitis Herpetiformis is a specific type of dermatitis that is caused by gluten intolerance.
  12. I work for Nestle, and I want to assure you and everyone else that Nestle takes great pains to avoid cc in all of their products. They will use a dedicated line whenever possible, and when that is not possible they have very strict and thorough cleaning protocols that must be followed. They also do allergy awareness training with all of their employees.
  13. I don't believe so. Google Nauvoo, IL and you'll see what I'm up against. The funeral isn't even in Nauvoo, but Nauvoo is the closest place that actually has hotels. Very rural area.
  14. I have to go out of town to Nauvoo, IL for a funeral and I will be gone for 2 days. There are only a few restaurants in town, and no chains that I know of. What should I bring that I can keep and eat in a hotel room?
  15. I actually used to work at one of the plants that makes hefty foam plates, my husband still does. I can assure you that, although I would always look at all the plates before using them and toss the top one, there should not be anything with gluten ever coming into contact with them.
  16. There are a few things that I wish my husband wouldn't eat in front of me. It hurts. There are things that I just loved SO much and I will never be able to eat again, and yes, it is very hard to watch someone eating it in front of me and be able to smell it but not be able to even have a tiny taste.
  17. Oh I hate the potlucks! Those are just the worst! And even if you do go and sort of pick around the veggie tray, someone is going to ask you "Did you try my famous_____?" And you have to say no. Also, every friday they order out and I don't know what is worse, being asked and having to say no or just not being asked at all. Oh well.
  18. Sheesh. I mean, I know it's not a huge deal. It's just something that I didn't do very often before (I'd maybe throw together a sandwich a few times a week, the rest of the time I'd either hit a place on the way in, try my luck with the wheel o' death, or order out). It just gets to be a real pain in my ass to have to think of something different to pack...
  19. Ok, here is my food info. The tinyurl is a link to my online storage space, so I would advise you to save the documents that you want in case I ever change it or close the account. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Here is a list of the "mainstream" brands that don't hide gluten under any other...
  20. Does anyone know anything about Dynasty brand spices (they make asian/chinese spices and sauces). I really want some chinese five spice mix, but I don't know if there are any that are safe.
  21. I think I have a pretty good idea about what you do and why you can't bring it up. It sounds like it might be time to make a choice between your career and your health, since it sounds like you can't have both. For years I had very mild symptoms, so mild that although I knew I was "sickly" it never seemed abnormal and I had no idea that I had this kind...
  22. I don't think that you'll find anyone here who doesn't follow the diet.
  23. Locally I pay $6.99 for a six pack.
  24. Search the forum for pet foods, I think that cat food has been listed before. Anyway, brands that make gluten-free cat foods that I can think of off the top of my head are Felidae and Natural Balance (but not every variety, so you have to check).
