  1. Personally, I believe in better safe than sorry. For what it's worth, I absolutely don't think that you are being too careful. I do the same for myself, and it keeps me from getting sick. I hate when people say "I know someone who...." and try to use that to disprove the evidence that CC is an issue. I think that most of us can name someone who smoked...
  2. If you search around online, you should be able to find soy-free chocolate. I know it's out there.
  3. I am very interested in this online library thing. I am a very avid reader, but the library is rather out of the way for me and books are expensive! Does anyone have more info on that? Ok, I just googled "online library" and I found a few things; one of them being a site with public domain literature classics. The URL is www.literature.org.
  4. Have you tried the plain pie shells? I usually like to add my own pie "guts" because I don't like things as sweet as most people do, but I don't know if I can make a good gluten-free pie shell on my own (terrible baker).
  5. If you figure it out, let me know. I fully admit to cheating with dairy and soy. I know my symptoms and I know that I can live with it, so it's hard for me to always say no. 99% of the time I am totally soy and dairy free, but last month I bought a homemade gluten-free cheesecake at the farmers market (it was divine and I'm not sorry that I did it) and last...
  6. I wouldn't know. I never intentionally consume gluten just to see if it bothers me.
  7. My stomach problems were always "stress", and my skin rash was misdiagnosed for 2 years (it's DH, but was called everything from folliculitis to "some kind of dermatitis" to "an outward expression of my emotional distress"). ETA: I had the "stress" related stomach problems for 10 years before my actual diagnosis.
  8. Well, we just got back from our dinner at the Shanghai Bistro. I went there with my husband and his parents (they didn't eat off the gluten-free menu, but my husband and I did). It was wonderful, I think that the last time that I was able to eat a nice dinner out with my husband was in April. The food was very good and our waitress was very careful and considerate...
  9. One can of undrained Ro-tel tomatoes plus one can of refried beans (I use the refried black beans because I like the taste better). Serve warm. It's good, I can't stop eating it.
  10. Tinkyada. I recently discovered that they make a spinach linguine, that's my new favorite.
  11. I'll be there.
  12. We had this training thing for work (it's all day for 3 days in a row) at a local hotel/convention center. The lunch is catered by the staff. So today at lunch, I was feeling a bit pouty right off the bat. First off, the food smelled WONDERFUL. And I was stuck sitting right next to it. I had a puny little PB&J and some strawberries. Then everyone...
  13. I'm afraid that I can't help you, but I was hoping that you would report back anything that you discover! I was in Beijing a few months prior to my diagnosis, and I would love to go back again sometime. Please share if you make any good discoveries, there or elsewhere in China.
  14. I have safely eaten items with white sauce at chinese restaurants, but I always clearly specify that they need to use a newly washed pan and untensils. I would bet that it was cross contamination that got you.
  15. I'm secretly hoping that! I'm going to stay off it for a while longer, and let my whole system get back into order, then try to add it again. (Although, I did recently try to add dairy back in and was fine for a few days, then started breaking out again).
  16. I don't know. It might even be different at every location, maybe that is why they no longer make a list available online. All I know is that on the list they keep at my local place, shrimp is the only protein that is gluten-free. Make sure your daughter asks to see the list that they keep the nex time she goes.
  17. Seriously. I just found out that I have unknowingly been consuming gluten for months. Noodles & Co. Their chicken, beef and tofu ALL contain gluten. They don't have an allergy list online, it says to ask the manager. So I did. And I was told that those things were "fine". Then today I was there and asked about something else on the menu. This time they...
  18. Did you bake the crust before adding toppings?
  19. So far no ill effects from the dairy consumption. That was the night before last. (In case anyone is curious)
  20. I gave up dairy in July because I thought it was the cause of my eczema problems, and my skin cleared up right away. That didn't last, however, and after just a couple of weeks the eczema started to creep back and eventually became just as bad as it was. After a while, I realized that soy was the problem. So I cut soy and, again, my skin cleared right...
  21. I'm a "mama" to three little frenchies.
  22. I get eczema from dairy, is yours similar to that?
  23. I tried a few times when I was first diagnosed, but CC is almost inevitable. The food just isn't good enough to be worth the risk (IMO, anyway).
  24. Cool! Thanks, I'll try that out.
  25. At first I thought that soy, like dairy, was only bothing my skin. Soy makes me break out in eczema on my hands, elbow, knees and one ankle. Itchy and unpleasant. So I stopped eating soy. Then one day I was just dying for a cookie. The only thing I had in the house had soy (I hadn't thrown them away, just in case). The results were shocking. Not only did...
