  1. That link is pure GOLD! Thank YOU tinpins for finding & providing it! It's bookmarked & going in my "arsenal". I love, love, love that they say at the end: "In 1969, it was recognized that DH could only be diagnosed by a proper skin biopsy (best performed by a dermatologist). This is analogous to celiac disease only being diagnosed by small bowel...
  2. Yes, it's emotional for sure! And validating. And oh, my gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You actually got a derm that "gets" it. You do realize since you have been gluten-free the odds are greatly stacked against the dh biopsy being positive? The same goes for the endoscopic biopsy. I hope your docs don't renig on the dx. It has happened before when biopsies come back...
  3. Shroomie, You helped me. Heck, you helped thousands. I miss you already. I can't believe I won't see your words of wisdom on here anymore. Rest in peace dear girl. You earned it. My thoughts turn now to her family. May they be content in the knowledge that Shroomie has gone on to help others in another place.
  4. The rice shouldn't be an issue iodine wise raptor. Not unless there's a whole heck of a lot of iodine in the soil where the rice is grown. Rice would be at the bottom of the iodine list. Maybe the salt? Sorry you're getting cc'd & do you really need a doc to tell you what it is? don't waste your time. I hope it all resolves quickly when you get home...
  5. Ah ha! Thank you very much Peter!
  6. tinpins has said she's not interested in Dapsone except maybe the topical form. I'm saying this for others who may come later & read this thread as well as the immediate. tinpins is allergic to sulfa as am I & Dapsone is in the sulfa class & it's iffy if she or I would be able to tolerate it even if she or I were willing to turn to oral Dapsone...
  7. What happened to the little friend icon below everyone's avatar? You know, the one where you just hovered your pointer & clicked on it & they were your friend? There was also the little icon beside it that you clicked on to pm them. I tried to make someone my friend today & couldn't figure out how. I don't think I'm still operating under brain...
  8. Loud & clear Karen. Thanks! Yup, it appears to be fixed. YAY!
  9. Thanks SO much Lisa for posting that for me. Lookee, lookee! It's working again. I had no trouble getting into the site this time. Figures --- Lisa goes to all the trouble to post this for me & then it all starts working right. That's just like life.
  10. I've read some threads where people have had some kidney issues --- 1 I read recently had to do with the person having blood in their urine for a long time & then gluten free it's gone. Poof! I had microscopic traces in my urine (before I knew about celiac) & went lickety split to the urologist b/c my hubs had bladder cancer & I know the first...
  11. A few more items I would like to cover. Gluten withdrawal. Use the Google search box near the top on the left hand side & put in gluten withdrawal --- you'll come up with hundreds of threads dealing with the subject. Familiarize yourself with it as you may experience it. Most of us do; some don't. My hubs was 1 of the lucky ones who didn't but probably...
  12. A quick & I'm sure not all inclusive (b/c Murphy's Law deems I forget something ) run down of iodine & a lot of these things are not listed on the thyca site now but were at one time. Here we go: raisins & grapes Watermelon asparagus all dairy egg yolks --- whites are fine it's the yolk that carries the iodine seafood lima beans turnip...
  13. Yes, victories are victories & each one gives us something to grasp so we keep moving forward. Oh how right you are Prickly! I dream of a plate full of fried eggs sunny side up. I will get there too.
  14. I echo what Prickly said. And everyone's case is different. I hope you react like Prickly & the low iodine will do the trick for you quickly. Me, I'm 17 mos. & STILL iodine makes my dh go freaking insane. So only time will tell. I DO have a good story to share with you guys today though. For the first time in 17 mos. I had potato salad! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
  15. Hi tinpins & welcome to the board. Hope is a good thing. But if it's dh then you may have a long row to hoe yet. But getting on the road to recovery is the first step & it does get better --- maybe not as fast as one wants but certainly it gets better. If you have pets you need to make sure they are eating gluten free food --- grain free is the...
  16. Ah! I remember you now that you jogged my memory. You of course need to make your own decision. And you have laid out your options & have done your homework so you are well informed. Having said that......... I will say that for me, if I had known (that I had dh - DUH) years ago when it was in it's infantile stages & very mild & known how horrid...
  17. I don't remember your story really. And I'm not quite sure what you're asking. If you want a dx then you would have to continue eating gluten & wait for a new, fresh outbreak & get it biopsied b/c when you're gluten free the biopsy will be neg. Yes, the steroid creams will make a dh biopsy neg. Soooooo....... You can go gluten-free now & forget...
  18. Also read this thread all the way through. Similarities. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/101537-can-celiac-reaction-change-from-diarrheabloating-to-dh/ You might try limiting iodine first to see if that makes a difference. DH can be very sensitive to iodine. DH IS very sensitive to the slightest amount of gluten --- the slightest amount.
  19. Yes, I'm not sure I could "acquire" the taste!
  20. Since I have been on this site I have read numerous posts from celiacs who had been gluten-free for years & then get accidentally glutened & they do NOT get the GI issues but instead get dh. So to answer your question --- YES! It can go from GI issues to dh. I fear that is what has happened to you. You don't need a biopsy --- you already have a dx...
  21. Well said Prickly. It can be soooooo hard to get a dx of celiac disease --- you know that Marcus, you've been reading on here long enough to know that. It is 10x harder to get a dx by way of dh. And if you don't get a dx of dh then they aren't going to dx you based on any other rash. I'm going to say this one more time & then I will not harp on it...
  22. Thanks IH & Steph. Steph, I am not a typical celiac. I don't get the gut & crappy feeling stuff you guys do. I have the celiac rash so if I get the slightest bit of gluten then the rash makes me pay for ---- ohhhhhh YEARS. You see, I would only know I was reacting when the rash flared & it then is depositing more antibodies under my skin which...
  23. Ditto what Prickly said.
