  1. Go figure --- now it doesn't even show up on Amazon. But I found a health food store about 100 miles away that supposedly carries it. I will call them tomorrow & see if they do & if they will mail it to me.
  2. Thank you so much for your reply!!!!!!!!!!!!! No, I can't get it locally at all. And I've tried a billion online markets. The only place I found is Amazon & that means 6 jars. We have a health food store here which has a larger store in another town 45 miles away & even THEY don't carry it. Sigh. I have looked for Vegenaise also but can't find it...
  3. I need a dairy free, egg yolk free, soy free mayo. Earth Balance Mindful Mayo fits the bill but I can not get it locally. I called the company & they said they can't send me a sample jar. The only way I can get it is to order from Amazon & that requires I order 6 whole jars at one time which with s&h comes to about $50. I wouldn't mind spending...
  4. YVW Itch. And I'm right there with you on so many avenues. No how, no way I am going back on gluten to prove to some doc something I already know! You put it well with "makes my blood run cold". Amen sister! Dapsone is in the sulfa class & I have problems with sulfamethoxozole. Despite this --- when I was out of my mind crazy insane with this latest flare...
  5. If you think you have dh then many of us have to go low iodine to bring it under control. What I'm talking about is not an allergy to iodine but something that can make the dh flare or flare worse. So, technically, in this instance, NO, your doc can not test it like it's an allergy. Hey, I am both gluten-free & low iodine ---- lots of foods I'm not...
  6. Gluten fires up dh rashes; iodine fans the flames. For a low iodine diet see: Open Original Shared Link Of course you have to cut the gluten out of the low iodine diet.
  7. Awright gluten-free you can poke my bubble with a stick. Just beware of what you pop. It may explode all over you!
  8. Itch, Here is some info. for you. You could print it out & take it to the next derm. There is a drug called Dapsone which keeps the dh from presenting. Many of us choose not to use it. Research before you do. Some of us can't use it. And if you're gluten-free then none of the tests will come up positive. IgA antibodies must be present in the skin...
  9. It's impossible not to EVER scratch! But we do the best we can right? Right now I feel totally filthy. I haven't washed my hair for 3 days & it's driving me crazy but I am determined to go a couple more. This also allows our natural oils to help our scalp. Hang in there.
  10. Hi Itch Be Gone, Oh hon, sorry to say that you'll be in for the long haul. It most surely sounds like dh. You see, what happens is that the antibodies get deposited under our skin & it takes a LONG time for them to get out of our skin. Professional sources say 2 years --- some say up to (gasp) 10 years. Until that time our rash can flare even though...
  11. I agree with what pricklypear said. I also have long hair down to my legs & BAD dh in my scalp. I know the feeling of wanting to shave it all off! This is going to sound gross & it is gross (at least to me) & it's very difficult to stand doing this BUT I have found that the longer you can possibly go without washing your hair the better off you...
  12. I sort of gave the wrong impression in my statement. Yes, I feel like living in a bubble but not b/c touching gluten affects me. It's because I've been having such a rough time with a dh flare & my skin is torn up from it. I feel like living in a bubble of perfect temp., moisture, & whatever it takes to not aggravate the dh.
  13. HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. It's possible that it's dh but not being caused by going gluten-free --- instead it may have been going to present itself anyway but you got dx'd before it did. If it's dh then it can continue to present off & on for a couple years possibly. You see, with dh, the antibodies stay in the skin & it takes time for them to dissipate. Going gluten-free...
  15. I think someone once said there was something else that was sensitive to iodine but I don't recall what that was. Sorry.
  16. No whizz here; I just Googled it & that's what I found. Yeah, there's lots of incorrect info. out there about dh so why not about dyshidrosis --- HOWEVER --- dyshi only says hands & feet whereas dh says lots of places sooooooo..... Looks like it's about time you came home my friend. You & your kids need to be where you can assure yourselves...
  17. Everything I saw about dyshidrosis said it's on hands & feet not face or legs. Now the leg is close enough to the foot so that might be plausible but the face is way off base.
  18. My blisters started out in the beginning to just be a tiny blister --- no redness around it..... until I broke it & began scratching. And in the very beginning mine were isolated not groupings.
  19. Even for the skin biopsy he has to be eating a full gluten diet. You could try giving him gluten for a week & get the dh biopsy & if it's neg. you can be pretty sure it was false neg. but there's the off chance that it will be positive.
  20. Raising hands & jumping up & down here! Me, me, me, me, me --- where's my bubble?
  21. Oh my! I don't know whether to be happy or sad. I'm thrilled that he got dx'd!!!!!!! And now he knows. Tell them to come on & join us --- there is a lot to learn about dh. There is a whole forum here for it. He may yet go through more hell as dh can present for up to (& maybe more) 2 years after being strict gluten-free. But at the end of the tunnel...
  22. patti-ann, I'm the wrong person to ask about that. I have the skin presentation of celiac disease (dh) & we tend to have less GI symptoms & when we do they are less severe. But I will say once again that we are all individuals & react differently. I want to say that I have read on here where some people do like you did & had a mild reaction...
  23. Continuing the progression of the lesions. These photos were taken today. They were much angrier looking a few days ago --- lobster red, but I could not bear to take photos of them at that point. They have been terribly painful & remain so. I have found the best thing at this point is Vaseline. And ice packs. But one can not spend all day laying on ones...
  24. I have some Cyproheptadine 4 mg. tabs left over from pre-dx & I take 1/2 to start then 1/4 2 or 3 x per day & it helps with the itching but it certainly doesn't stop the itch & it does nothing else for the dh. Even though I always take them on a full stomach I find that after 3 days they begin to affect my stomach & I get burning indigestion...
  25. I like Suave too. Smells great, works great & you can't beat the price. I don't know about sucking it up..... it's pretty hard to suck this stuff up.
