Xymogen Liquid D3.

That is a great question and I hope someone can answer it because I am wondering also. My vitamin D score was at 23 without supplementation (Aug-2011). I started vitamin D drops (5,000 IU/day) a couple weeks later and by Nov-2011 my level retested at 46 (recommended range is 30-100 on my lab report). I too am wondering if I can start backing down the dose...

I read about it in the book Digestive Wellness by Elizabeth Lipski. Page 116 reads, "The method that has rapidly become the recognized standard for intestinal permeability testing is the mannitol and lactulose test". Found several on-line but the ones I found only offer through an authorized practitioner. One lab is Genova Diagnostics, they call it ...

ARCHIVED Irritability After 4 Months Gluten-Free?
TeknoLen replied to rewham's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am about 3 months into my GFCFSF journey and I still get irritable, quite frequently including today for instance. Not really sure why it is still happening but I attribute it to gummed up opioid receptors in my brain, from years of them marinating in gliadomorphin and casomorphin thanks to a "healthy" diet full of whole grains. I am currently self-medicating... -
ARCHIVED Constantly Hungry- Never Full
TeknoLen replied to Xhale1227's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wonder if your breakfast had too high of a glycemic load. Two cups of oats and the fruit might be spiking your blood sugar which can cause your insulin production to spike which can then lead to a "crash" as the insulin knocks down your blood glucose. Hunger is a common result of the blood sugar crash. The fats and protein in your breakfast should have... -
I lost about 12% of my body weight from Aug 2011 to Feb 2012 with most of it lost in Oct and Nov. My endo attributes it to my hyperthyroidism and mostly paleo diet but my primary care doc was worried so he referred me to a gastroenterologist who last week ordered up a celiac panel and a beta carotene test. I have been strict GFCFSF since Nov 2011 so the...

I have read about a leaky gut test using lactulose and mannitol. It appears many get it from their ND or DC. Is there a mail-order, do-it-yourself version, does any know? It seems easy enough and low-risk enough to do unsupervised. Thanks.

ARCHIVED New Allergies Since Going Gluten Free
TeknoLen replied to MamaElle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think it is definitely possible to pick-up new food sensitivities. I think I might have acquired some additional food sensitivities since going GFCFSF. I started eating eggs much more frequently when I first changed my diet but subsequently had to drop them to my unsafe foods list. Same with almonds, was snacking on almonds all the time but had to cut... -
ARCHIVED Enlarged Thyroid With Normal Tsh And Im Gluten And Dairy Free
TeknoLen replied to newbie2011's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree with burdee nd others who asked about thyroid antibodies blood test. Those results will be telling. I would add that lack of iodine can also cause goiter. This is not too much of a problem anymore in western civilization due to iodized salt but still a problem in some developing parts of the world. Did you cut back on iodized salt or switch to sea... -
ARCHIVED Thyroid Issues And Celiac?
TeknoLen replied to mazz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board! I am sorry to hear you are going through this but you have landed in a community of caring people, all excellent resources, any many with first-hand experience. There can indeed be a connection between thyroid problems and Celiac. In fact, you don't need to be Celiac, you can be just gluten-sensitive and that is enough to trigger the... -
All of the above comments make good sense. I would add that the big glass of water you said you drank with your meal might be working against you. Your stomach needs a very acidic environment to accomplish its job. Excessive water with meals (even accompanied by some apple cider vinegar) could have substantially lowered the overall acidity of your stomach...

I too love the coconut oil. I can eat that stuff by the spoonful (but I don't, well, not often). I had some brain fog early on, among other gluten sensitivity symptoms. My endo MD suggested magnesium, B-12 and B-complex supplements, in addition to GFCFSF diet. I am not sure which of those three helps the brain fog (perhaps the B-12 because it says for nervous...

ARCHIVED Blood Tests / Functional Versus Normal Range
TeknoLen replied to TeknoLen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Good suggestion, I will call my ND to see if he has functional ranges. Otherwise, I have not found anything else yet on Comprehensive Metabolic Panel functional ranges. For the more common thyroid tests, I found one book that indicates the following, although the book was silent on how these ranges were calibrated: TSH Functional Range: 1.8-3.0 mU/L... -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests / Functional Versus Normal Range
TeknoLen posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I recently had a blood test that included Comp Metabolic Panel, CBC with Diff/Platelet, Iron, TSH etc. Thankfully, all of my scores were back within the "normal" range as reported by LabCorp. However, some of my scores were close to either the top end or bottom end of the lab range. Those of us familiar with TSH for instance, know how the functional range... -
TLK, sorry to hear it is slow going. I hope you keep at it... I agree with Kansas, whole food only, any processing should be by your own hands. I am not familiar with GAPS but I do follow a sort of my own version of the Paleo Diet with a little bit of Body Ecology Diet (BED) added in for good measure. I am working to get my gut lining tightened up so...

ARCHIVED Exercise Improvements After Going Gluten Free?
TeknoLen replied to BarryC's topic in Sports and Fitness
Loren Cordain in his book Paleo Diet makes the assertion that a paleo eater should be able to better perform physically and athletically than someone who eats SAD (standard American diet). I seem to remember he had some pretty good rationale and some anecdotal case histories to back up his claim. If your gluten-free diet is similar to a paleo diet, then... -
I am not familiar with de Quenvain's thyroiditis but your low TSH and headache, chest pain and weight loss symptoms indicate hyperthyroidism, too much thyroid hormone pumping through your system causing increased metabolism. I would also encourage you to ask him about antithyroid drugs, i.e. methimazole to get your thyroid slowed down. You or someone...

I was quite disappointed when my test showed I had a slight sensitivity to eggs (specifically, ovalbumin protein). Eggs are such a great source of quick protein that they had become a big part of my diet. I reluctantly dropped them out of my diet for a while and just tried two egg yolks for breakfast the day before yesterday, the first time in a long time...

ARCHIVED Elevated Tsh In Child_ How High Is A Problem?
TeknoLen replied to MitziG's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It is certainly good to hear that his autoimmune-specific thyroid tests came back in the normal range. That is good news. I think you are still very wise to be concerned with an elevated 4.69 TSH. My endo MD would call that hypo. He revises the normal TSH range (0.40-4.50 mIU/L) on my lab report to reflect his personal opinion normal range of 0.40-2.5 mIU... -
ARCHIVED Does Sensitvity Increase With Time?
TeknoLen replied to Curlyqueen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I ran across something the other day indicating that some drugs can aggravate leaky gut. I see you mentioned taking a Tylenol type drug, which is a/k/a acetaminophen. It was on the possible offenders list. Perhaps even though the painkiller is gluten-free, it is thinning your gut lining and making it easier for other antigens to cross-over to the blood stream... -

ARCHIVED Hubby Causes Insomnia? Suggestions?
TeknoLen replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had modest success with nasal strips and a product called Alkalol, an herbal liquid solution to flush the nostrils and sinuses. If you try it, be sure to buy the accessory "nasal d%$#@#$ cup" (no kidding). It seemed to soothe my inflamed sinuses, which was the primary cause of my snoring. It partly moderated my snoring, but not completely. Since going gluten... -
ARCHIVED Abdominal Pain Now Worse After Going Gluten-Free?
TeknoLen replied to rarmama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a problem recently with, beleive it not, quinoa. Horrible stomach pains. I knew it was the quinoa because my diet the rest of that day was pristene. After a little research here on the board, I found a thread that discussed something in quinoa called saponins, the coating that is supposed to get washed off when the quinoa grains are soaked. Even a trace... -
ARCHIVED Pls Tell Me Your Favorite gluten-free Products!
TeknoLen replied to Aly1's topic in Super Sensitive People
If you include cutting up celery and carrots into sticks as "processed", then those can be very convenient and portable snacks. Celery is good also because it is one of the more alkalinizing vegetables. Pumpkin and sunflower seeds are good snacks also if you can tolerate them... -
