  1. Is there a best time of day to take a probiotic? With food or without? With lots of water or without? I am trying to get the max benefit. Thanks.
  2. I would suggest free T4 and total T4, free T3 and total T3, thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies test for sure. Perhaps TSH receptor antibody as well. Your doctor might also consider a thyroid ultrasound since this can give a good visual of what is going on in there... Best of luck...
  3. Going gluten-free was definitely more difficult since wheat-based foods were such an integral part of my diet. Bread for sandwiches, pizza, breakfast cereals, hamburger buns, beer, breaded foods, etc were all tough to give up because I knew they were gone forever. Dairy was not as difficult since I thought it might only be temporary. I still have occasional...
  4. I have noticed a similar condition as I continue the GFCFSF journey. I am hopeful that it is an indicator of some form of gut healing happening. Could the daily probiotic I have been taking finally be gaining a foothold and killing off some bad bugs?. I probably need to start a daily food journal to get to the bottom of it (pun intended)...
  5. I did Enterolab "Panel A" (which includes anti-gliadin) last month and the report will not tell you if you are Celiac. You will get numerical scores for each antigen in the panel and an interpretation narrative of where your score places you in the range and what course of action you should consider taking. Blood tests and intestinal biopsy seem to be most...
  6. I have mostly stopped taking aspirin due to the fact that I have had very few headaches since going GFCFSF (whereas previously I had them more regularly). I found the article thought-provoking and I appreciate you sharing it. Thanks.
  7. I am considering adding a proteolytic enzyme to my supplement regimen. Daily "pill fatigue" from all of the vitamins and supplements I am taking is catching up with me and I am looking for insight on whether enzymes would be worth the bother and the expense. The proteolytic enzyme supplement I am considering contains pancreatin, papain, bromelain, rutin...
  8. Sorry to hear the muffins did not agree. My mom made some Bob's gluten-free bread for me at Christmas and I have not noticed a reaction. One question I have is what kind of oil did you use? The recipe my mom made called for vegetable oil but she substituted olive oil since some vege oils contain soy, another possible antigen...
  9. My multivitamin (and my B-complex) is DC Labs brand gluten-free tablets (the size of horse pills). I think it is CF and SF also but I do not have bottle here with me as I write this. It was recommended by a friend's gluten-free nutritionist and I am told she checks these things out very thoroughly (although I have never met her). I have been taking these...
  10. Sorry to hear about the eggs disagreeing. What a bummer! To your question, I am eating GFCFSF and have not noticed a problem with eggs. I was however surprised to learn just last week that eggs (or more specifically, the ovalbumin protein) can be antigenic. In fact, I learned about it because it is one of the big 4 on the Enterolab food sensitivity test...
  11. I also take Now brand of B-12 (cyanocobalamin) but my doc only has me taking 1,000 mcg once per day. I actually break it in half and take one half in the AM and one half in the PM. It also includes 100 mcg of folic acid. I have been taking it a couple of months, it seems to agree with my system but have not had a test lately to know where my levels are....
  12. I had the pins and needles you mention (my feet and ankles) and also the muscle twitches (left bicep) during my first couple weeks of the GFCFSF diet. I chalked it up to (among several) withdrawal symtoms. Lately, I have not noticed either. Three-month trial diet suggested above seems like a good idea, as does pressing your doctor to run the test. Full-blown...
  13. Sounds like you are all set going forward. I have had good luck so far with Xymogen brand D3 drops, 5000 IU per day...
  14. Anheuser Busch makes a gluten-free beer called Redbridge, I had it for the first time this past weekend. It was good, but not great like the full-bodied hoppy IPA's I used to enjoy before I became aware of this cursed gluten sensitivity. I also found the Estrella Damm Daura good but a little pricey. I have read that Estrella has trace amounts of gluten...
  15. I take a daily multi-vitamin, 5,000 IU D3 (sublingual drops), B-complex, and 1,000 mcg B-12. Also 400 mg magnesium (oxide). Someone I think mentioned this previously, but I am also eating more vegetables and fewer grains. I learned recently that many vitamins are made by the body right in the gut so I am hopeful the better diet will translate into better...
  16. I used to take plain aspirin but stopped when I learned that aspirin could be partly responsible for weakening my gut ecosystem. Now my "painkiller" is an Epsom salts bath and sleep...
  17. Sorry to hear you are still feeling it. I think I picked up a little cross-contamination from a "gluten-free" dessert at a holiday party this past Saturday evening. Sunday was rough and still some residual D and fatigue Monday but Tuesday was more or less normal. I can only speculate why my bounce was quick. Perhaps I only ingested a small amount of gluten...
  18. I guess we are lucky ones as I have not noticed a reaction either; just a caution for those who are super-sensitive...
  19. My wife's chiropractor suggested we try the Estrella Damm Daura. It tasted pretty good, like normal beer but be aware the fine print reads that it contains up to 6 ppm gluten... Wine is still the safer bet...
  20. Someone described previously said it best, "twisting guts". That can be quite uncomfortable...
  21. Great post from Skylark indeed. I am taking a daily probiotic pearl that seems to agree with me. It has a hard shell and is supposed to remain intact through the harsh acidic stomach environment until making it to the intestines where it eventually opens. My nutritionist said this results in a higher survival rate for the little good bugs. The brand I use...
  22. Tom's of Maine, one of the flouride-free options for me.
  23. It should be noted (IMHO) that people with stressed digestive systems should try to keep yeast intake to a minimum due to possible aggravation of conditions such as candidiasis, a yeast overgrowth in the gut that can impair immune system function.
  24. Booghead, you might find it informative to check out the book "Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms? When My Lab Tests Are Normal" by Datis Kharrazian. It's a $10 paperback online. He does a good job of describing the connection between gluten and thyroid issues. Good luck.
  25. I found a book called "The Autism and ADHD Diet" by Barrie Silberberg to be very informative, a quick read, from my local library. It amazing that there is likely a gluten link to autism and so many other conditions. It makes many of the gluten withdrawal symptoms make so much more sense...
