  1. I wouldn't think hemp seeds would work very well, since when I tasted a few by themselves they were sort of bitter. Almonds might be good though. Or hazelnuts? Pine nuts? I'm not sure how different nuts relate, as far as allergic reactions go, though. You'd probably want to check on that or ask the Dr.
  2. Another problem may be soy, though I didn't see it as a menu item it may be in the margarine? It's a thyroid inhibitor, and here's an interesting article: Open Original Shared Link
  3. Buckwheat, sorghum & blueberry pancakes, with a 1/3 or so piece of a boneless pork rib.
  4. Yeah, I think I was confusing the issue, after I went back and looked at the thread. Sorry, and never mind.
  5. I'm not sure about the ulcerative colitis, but the other things certainly are symptoms of celiac. I'm not sure, but it may be the meds would affect your symptoms also, are they gluten-free? Hopefully someone who's more familiar with the ulcer question will stop by. As for how long it will take for symptoms to improve, it can vary. (I know, that's not...
  6. She had only been gluten-free for 1 week before going back on gluten for the testing, so I'd suspect that 4 weeks back on gluten should be fine?
  7. I froze a couple of slices of birthday cake made with Hodgson Mills gluten-free yellow cake for about 2 weeks and it was fine when thawed. I would suspect you should be able to go about a month with no problems. Though fyi, the Betty Crocker yellow cake is pretty dry when made as directed, if you're using that you might want to make a test batch with some...
  8. I would suspect it may be at least partially due to withdrawal, and your body adjusting to less inflammation. However, it may point to nutritional deficiencies (s?) such as B12, and/or issues with excitotoxins in your diet; namely aspartame and / or msg. I'd suspect you probably avoid those anyway, but thought I'd throw it out there. I also have issues...
  9. There's a sticky topic at the top of the forum topic (and linked here) with an FAQ (frequently asked questions) about Celiac Disease. It has links to several good articles on this site, including a list of foods to avoid as well as gluten-free foods. Hope that helps!
  10. I'm currently unemployed, so replacing much of anything isn't really in my budget, though I had to get rid of a nonstick griddle pan, which when I gave it to my brother he said it looked like new. I don't have a dishwasher though, and apparently giving it a good scrub with a plastic scrubbie (like a scotch-brite pad) didn't make it safe. But I'm keeping...
  11. I had an ancient (like 20 years old!) black & decker toaster oven. It still worked, but cleaning the inside was hazardous, it had sharp edges, and no slide out crumb catcher tray. After reading something on here I decided to bite the bullet and got a new one, also a black & decker. It's taking some getting used to, but cleaning is much easier! And...
  12. The ingredient list doesn't show any gluten ingredients, it just shows 'select orange pekoe and cut black teas', unless orange pekoe is something gluten-y? It caused me to react as though it has gluten, however.
  13. And for me, and others one thing that causes big problems with DH (besides gluten, and iodine) is MSG. See here: Open Original Shared Link and visit that link's main site for links to other information and articles.
  14. I just wanted to add, stay away from HyTop tea! I thought I'd try it in place of the Red Rose I'd been drinking. Thankfully I opened it before I was out of the RR, and I'm going to get more today. I wasn't necessarily drinking it every day, and since I didn't have an immediate reaction I thought it was ok; but over a period of a couple weeks I was getting...
  15. Oats are usually cross-contaminated with wheat during processing, so anything with oats should be considered unsafe. (Except for specifically labeled gluten-free oats.) I'd replace the face cleaner as soon as you can, though it may or may not affect your scalp.
  16. In case it helps, I've done o.k. with buckwheat that I believe is from BRM (it was bulk -- I know, I know, stay away from the bulk bins and all that... I'm still learning!). I've also done o.k. with Lundberg farms rice cakes (unsalted, brown rice), after realizing that I may have issues with the Quaker Oats brand. I also have the BRM potato starch, seems...
  17. Possibly, it may depend on what it is and sometimes other things may slow the digestion of the offending item. I think for the most part, the reason you'd want to eat items you want to 'test' by themselves is to be able to isolate what you may be reacting to. For instance, if you react to potato chips you might suspect you have a problem with potatoes, but...
  18. I'd suspect that shaky feeling is due to too many carbs (carbohydrates), at least it is for me. Are you doing egg white due to iodine in the yolk? Thankfully I'm back to whole eggs and my DH is fine unless I do something stupid like drink tea that I realized after 2 weeks was glutening me. (Hytop brand) However, your juice, hashbrowns and probably milk...
  19. I would suspect that switching to the gluten-free shampoo may make the difference. My hair was definitely thinning, and I've been gluten-free for just about 4 months now and my hair is now getting thicker for at least the last month or so. Since you mentioned that the red bumps are clearing up since using another shampoo, that's a good sign. In case you...
  20. Just from what I've picked up from baking, etc. I'd say the higher gluten flours would be used in the 'artisan' type breads, and possibly pasta. The lower gluten flours would be used in cakes.
  21. Is your gastro appointment for the actual biopsy, or just an initial appointment to see if a biopsy is needed which would be scheduled another time? I'm not positive, but 1 week on a gluten-free diet may not make a great deal of difference on the biopsy results, but generally you should continue to eat gluten until all testing is complete. According...
  22. I haven't eaten at an OCB since starting a gluten-free diet, it's been a couple of years since I've eaten there in fact. As I recall, they have different stations with different types of food (i.e. the meat in one spot, and sometimes a carver there carving some roast beef to put on a plate), that station *might * be safe, and the veggie station might also...
  23. I don't believe bumping is the best way to elicit help from volunteers who reply to messages because they want to be helpful. I haven't seen it as an issue from others here that are on a gluten-free diet. It might be a reaction to some other ingredient (such as MSG which I mentioned, or perhaps artificial colors or something else....). Keeping a...
  24. Another ingredient to look out for that is derived from wheat is panthenol, and I agree with mushroom and rosetapper23!
  25. Sorry I didn't respond to the thread earlier, I was hoping someone else would have experience with this particular question. But, I know for me, one of my symptoms of having eaten something with MSG is a numb feeling in my mouth, lips & nose area, all the way to the top of my head. However, some other MSG symptoms are very similar to celiac symptoms...
