  1. Many adult GI doctors will not even biopsy unless they can see it. And that was told to me by a nurse for a GI doctor and my dd pediatric doctor. I am glad yours at least took samples. My dd had no visible damage but "simplification" of the villi which is the start. You just don't go from healthy villi to total atrophy overnight!
  2. 2 things. Like everyone said, get a recent antibody test. After a year, they should be normal or at least fallen a great deal. Our GI told us about a sad divorce situation where the dad would let the child eat whatever at his house so he didn't have to be the bad guy or deal with "the hassle". Not sure which. In that case, you just see a lawyer. But you'd...
  3. Oh goodness! That looks horrible. I have the solution for you! My husband uses this for turkey hunting with my 12 year old daughter. It is the best $25 we have spent. It is the Thermacell mosquito repellant. It just clips on you or set it on a chair around you. It covers a 15 foot area around you! It is battery run and almost orderless. They say...
  4. I don't believe it is possible to be 100% gluten free unless you live in a bubble. Just the sheer number of cc threads on here show that! (and your body doesn't know if you did it on purpose or not!). My dd accidentally popped a butterfinger mini ( the unwrapped kind) from her sister because she thought butterfingers were gluten-free. Sister immediately...
  5. Doctors should not tell the worse case scenerio as if it would automatically happen. Yes lymphoma may be a rare effect but when 1 out of 100 Caucasians supposedly have it and don't know it....lymphoma would be everywhere. My support group leaders dad found out at age 98. We all have to die if something and it may not be celiac related. No need to freak...
  6. This is the dumbest article I have read on celiac. That picture of the lady in food with the caption "she doesn't have a rash...she must be a republican!" was an insult. Obviously they didn't see me eating my gluten free brownie last night while watching the RNC convention. Haha. I can't believe people publish this junk.
  7. Man I am sad. We have been doing this 9 months and I have not had any of those hilarious things! I needed that! I do have people ask what gluten is and stuff but nothing that funny! Thanks!
  8. My 12 yr old dd is being scoped on Thursday. The last scope in December showed celiac and EE in her esphagus. They are going to recheck her EE this Thursday? Should I ask for another biopsy for celiac? Her antibody levels were normal after 6 months. I am paying 20% and don't want more lab tests than needed. Just wasn't sure if there was another need for...
  9. I made these for dinner last night as hamburger buns. My family hated them but said if I'd add garlic powder and make small rolls instead of big buns then they'd taste like Red Lobster biscuits. May have to try it again.
  10. My child's GI mentioned lymphoma before the biopsies were even back. He also mentioned other issues and I sat bawling in the room. I didn't like that bedside manner and changed doctors. The new one told me that yes if she ate gluten for 20 years then it might cause it but just an accidental gluten would not. I was almost paralyzed with fear because I have...
  11. My dd was 11 when she was diagnosed. My nutritionist told me to buy Gluten Free Grocery Shopping Guide by Matison&Matison. It's been great. It tells regular food that is gluten free (hormel chili, denty Moore beef stew, Doritos , certain Smart Ones, etc. I thought we'd have to go to a specialty store for things but I can find most everything at Kroger...
  12. My daughter who is not celiac will throw up everytime she over eats sweets. Also, sugar has a laxative effect. My friend in pharmacy school once told me to give my kids cotton candy instead of a laxative. It worked! So maybe he just had too much gluten free cake. Of course, he may have gotten glutened but is sounded a lot like my daughter who we ha e to...
  13. I do homeschool but not due to celiac. However we go to church in a school and I use the kids bathrooms. Ours has where you push the water on and it goes off by itself. Seriously.... It is on 3 seconds. I have to keep pushing it down. There is no way a kid will keep doing it. It was not enough to even get my hands wet much less get soap off. No wonder kids...
  14. So true! My daughter once said "I am so glad I am gluten free because if I wasnt, I'd never have tried this meal!". Wow. I hated to cook. Ok I still hate to cook but just her appreciating the meal was great. FYI - it was hash browns with talapia on top and then a can of diced tomatoes on top! I found it on a gluten free menu. It sounded gross but with 3...
  15. Very interesting. I hope the women on the pregnancy board here will at least take a probiotic.
  16. We stole this idea from the county fair but it's great for camping. We like taco in a bag. You take a individual Frito bag and open it down on side. (the top would be too narrow). Add lettuce, taco meat , sour cream, salsa, tomatoes, etc. Eat it straight out of the bag around the campfire. The ones at the fair were the mid size 99 cent ones like at the convience...
  17. My dd does this immediately with bananas and cantaloupe! The doctor said that "heartburn" can actually be your chest tightening with antaphalaxix. So you may be having a bad allergic reaction when it is immediate. I have not had her tested for bananas but she did test positive on a skin test for cantaloupe. We r asking for the banana test at our next appointment...
  18. Sorry. Just saw the thread regarding this. Thanks for advice there!
  19. Do you guys have detailed conversations at restaurants about the grill and glove changes or do you just order off the gluten-free menu. I just read how good someone's experience at ocharleys was and I would like to go. Do you make them clean the grill if it's just grilled fish or chicken? We only go to a few restaurants because I don't really know if ordering...
  20. Their antibacterial lotion had wheat germ oil too. I have to read their labels carefully. People could use that on their hands and then eat!
  21. I asked at ours and they looked and said gluten free. I don't know if it's all the same. I guess you could call the company to double check.
  22. I am not going to be much help but I'll tell you my 2 kids experience and their 2 very different experiences. They were at the same hospital and same doctor. My youngest was scoped first. They gave her happy medicine to ease the separation anxiety as they wheeled her away. We had to video that. She was talking to the hospital curtains and waving at them....
  23. I did not breastfeed my daughter and she has celiac. I have blamed myself for 9 months. Your stories about still having it despite breastfeeding eases my guilt a tad.
  24. What brand of cream of mushroom soup and cream of chicken do you use now? I never can find any that's gluten-free. Why does Campbell's have to put in wheat? Uggg.
  25. My celiac child eats zone bars all the time. Do they give your child symptoms?
