ARCHIVED WW II Every Night At Dinner
xjrosie replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had the same problem. Mealtime almost always ended with me storming away from the table and going in my room and crying because I couldn't feed my daughter. It was a couple years of fighting. At the time, we didn't even have allergies or intolerances to deal with (at least that we knew of). Our families had no history of allergies so we really had no... -
ARCHIVED Kid Allways Hungry
xjrosie replied to Ginnie64's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
With every snack, have him drink about 4 oz. of something, even if it's just water. At that age, they can't always 100% tell whether it's food or drink their body wants. The body will continue to give the request for food/drink until that request is fulfilled. I find that making my kids drink something along with every snack has helped them not want to raid... -
My daughter was glutened for only three weeks prior to her scope. Her doctor brought the pictures out to me and said, "yep, she's got it. I'll go ahead and test the biopsy but it's pretty much just a formality." I think it depends on the person's sensitivity?

I hope he works out for you. He not only diagnosed my daughter, but said that since my first-generation family (my children) have a history of autoimmune diseases all my kids (and myself) should be tested for Celiac. He just diagnosed my oldest daughter with Celiac after blood tests were inconclusive. The scope was also inconclusive but the biopsy was...

ARCHIVED Going Gluten-Free In Sympathy With Your Kids?
xjrosie replied to kb27's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have three daughters, two of which have celiac disease. My third daughter just had her bloodwork done yesterday and we're waiting now. But, I have already decided that once my daughter is fully tested for Celiac (at the doctor's discretion) I will be going completely gluten-free in our house. I want at least one place in this world where they can come in... -
ARCHIVED Help Please? 13 Year Old Son Sneaking Wheat!
xjrosie replied to candygirl69's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm really feeling your problem right now. My 14 y.o. was just diagnosed last Friday and she's really fighting it! But as for your situation, I have been down your path with the trust issue. It has been a long-standing rule in my house that if you misbehave in school, I go to school with you. If I can't trust you, I need to babysit you. It worked for my... -
ARCHIVED Mom Wants Me To End It Over His Celiac
xjrosie replied to KricketKrick's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
While I've been in the same boat as you (ex-fiancee used to yell at me, then New Year's Eve he pushed me down the stairs. New Years Day I had a U-Haul in his driveway getting my stuff and my kids' stuff out of there), I partially disagree with you. Celiac, when not taken care of, can cause bouts of depression. Depression makes a person moody. I have had... -
I tried out RR last night. It was the first time since my daughter's official diagnosis that we ventured out to a restaurant. When I went in, I went up to the hostess and asked if they did indeed have a gluten free menu. She said absolutely. She then went on to inform me that in their kitchen they do have a specific area that is gluten free and all non...

ARCHIVED Short Kids
xjrosie replied to Austin Guy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, at age 11, my oldest daughter was wearing shoe size ten and just over four feet tall. She has hypothyroidism which went undiagnosed for two years (until I forced my ex to give custody back to me, long story). She is now 5 foot 7 inches I am the exact same height, with size 9.5 feet. My second daughter, who has no autoimmune disorders (yet,... -
ARCHIVED School Lunch Suggestions
xjrosie replied to Ty Cannon's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just usually pack up a little of what's left over from dinner the night before. But my daughter loves fast things, so I give her stuff that's quick to finish. Salami n cheese rolls Summer sausage, cheese and crackers yogurt toasted bagel with cream cheese (toasted at home so she nukes it at school and the cream cheese will spread nicer) applesause... -
For the teflon, go to the store and get one of those scrubbing sponges for delicate items (it's light blue with a slightly darker blue for the scrubbing side). I can scrub my Teflon pans with this without damaging the surface, and my daughter's doctor said that should be efficient in getting all the residual gluten off the pan. I also recommend parchment...

ARCHIVED What Supplements Do You Take For Hair Loss?
xjrosie replied to rarmama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My doctor put me on sublingual b-12. He said that a deficiency in b-12 causes the body to not utilize other nutrients properly. Once I started on b-12 my hair mostly grew back in. -
Even though it may be gluten free, it's still possible to be allergic to baby wipes. For my first daughter they had the wipes in those cute little containers shaped like legos. I decided to stick with those and maybe she would like to play with them when she was a little older. However, for months, she would have severe diaper rash. I didn't use them for...

ARCHIVED Vitamins, Mixed Tocopherols? Help?
xjrosie replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just looked this up for another member yesterday. Tocopherol is something that could be derived from wheat germ. But, if wheat germ was the source, it would have to be listed on the package as the source of the tocopherol. Anyway, it's a questionable ingredient, but not a definite yes or no. -

Look for an extended-stay hotel, I know the Holiday Inn company has one but I can't remember the name. Anyway, those hotels typically have a little larger room with a fridge, mini-stove, and microwave. The one I stayed in even had a bit larger table where my kids and I could sit down. -
I went to their website, and on the same page with their gluten free offerings, there was a disclaimer that is it was thought to be correct as of November 2011.

ARCHIVED "my Kids Can't Have Gluten So I Have To Get Whole Wheat Spaghetti For Them"
xjrosie replied to their-aunt's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It breaks my heart to read things like this. My parents starved my brother and I when we were little. I used to hide food in our bedrooms any time I could sneak it. Now I hoard food - not in a bad way. I don't buy lots of snacks, but I have enough food to make it through about two weeks to a month if a disaster happened. I'm afraid of my kids never having... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
xjrosie replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yum! I love steak...if only I could eat it every day. We are having leftovers. Fortunately, leftovers are just BBQ pulled pork that was cooked in a slowcooker all day. I use the McCormick's pulled pork seasoning pack, then add a bit more brown sugar to put it on the sweet side. Then we're going to have honey-roasted baby carrots and a Caesar salad... -
ARCHIVED How To Use Frozen Bread
xjrosie replied to 1974girl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I do the same thing, except I use wax paper to separate bread into sets of two slices, then shove as many as I can in a sandwich bag. That way, I put it all in the freezer and take out one sandwich bag at a time to put in the fridge. It saves a bit of money. -
ARCHIVED Daughter Diagnosed With celiac disease And Diabetic
xjrosie replied to xjrosie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yep, she has a Thermos. It's even one of the cool ones where you can use the lid as a cup. I'm glad I live only about ten miles from a grocery store. They don't have the best selection of gluten-free, but during the day when I'm planning dinner I think about what she can eat first. If I don't have something, I go get it. Conversely, if I happen to plan... -
ARCHIVED New With Celiac
xjrosie replied to StarSki's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi there. Whatever you do, DON'T buy tapioca bread or rice bread. My daughter (age ten) refuses to eat it. They do make white bread, which is usually in the freezer section. She says it's much better. We are still experimenting, but she says most of the stuff in the freezer section tastes good. White rice spaghetti noodles is really good. I have... -
ARCHIVED General Mills Gluten Free Labelling
xjrosie replied to BabsV's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
More companies seem to be jumping on the bandwagon with gluten-free, thank goodness. Chex has five cereals that are gluten-free, and my daughter loves all of them. Also Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles are gluten-free, along with the related marshmallow snacks. The supermarket is going to look a lot different in another year, I think. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Protein Powders
xjrosie replied to Aligirl2006's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All I could find that were questionable were the tocopherols, and the natural and artificial flavorings. It's not guaranteed that these ingredients aren't using a gluten filler. I checked all the other ingredients for you, they're good. -
ARCHIVED Orange Juice
xjrosie replied to Andrew10's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good for you. You just made my point by providing a picture of how FROZEN OJ is made. The issue I brought up was with supposed "fresh" orange. You see, that cute little tank where they do the blending is where they add all the extra stuff in. Frozen OJ bypasses that whole stage. From Open Original Shared Link Even on the Meijer website, it stated... -
ARCHIVED Hi I Am New To This Forum
xjrosie replied to natgirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Welcome. I'm a newbie too, for my daughter who is diabetic/celiac. This place is great for resources, in my few days here I've learned so much more.
