ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
Adalaide replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Holy crap that's an expensive vet! We have a vet here that is a small animal and exotic vet. They have totally reasonable prices, we pay $100(ish) for a checkup so that isn't so bad and she knows what she's doing. The problem is getting the brat into her carrier when we want to, her condo is so large that we can't just grab her if we want to and usually end... -

He is texture challenged. Also, after he was diagnosed with diabetes when he was a kid he was coddled by his mother. If he didn't want to eat something, his mother would immediately give him whatever he wanted. It drives me up a wall so much that I could just slap her thinking about it. Thankfully, if I put him in front of fresh carrots, he'll eat them mindlessly... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Hamburger Bun Idea- Think Outside The Bun!
Adalaide replied to LauraTX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I actually fry my hash browns as a patty until they're crisp. That's brilliant, I could just do two small ones. I had been thinking I could get a mandoline (I keep hounding my husband for one but he says $100 is too much to spend on a single kitchen gadget ) and just do the giant waffle fry thing. The hash browns could get me by until I can talk him into... -

That's so exciting that you got out! Hopefully it is just the beginning of a great new year of being well. Apparently my husband doesn't like risotto or chicken piccata. Whatever, more for me! I can have risotto cakes for breakfast. (That's a breakfast food right?) And I can make those stuffed ball thingers for later. It makes my mouth water just thinking... -

I thought I'd share a little food porn. It's been a while since any of us did and I'm super proud of myself because my dinner was AMAZING! I was getting scared because the rice was tasting okay, but not awesome as I was checking it for doneness but once it was all together I almost died of pleasure. I've never made anything so good in my life. Irish, you... -

I have a mini lop named Freya. She's my baby! She's not a show bunny or anything, she's just a house bunny. We built her a huge indoor condo, but while she was a baby she lived in the bathroom because it was the easiest place to litter train her. Yes, it is SUPER CREEPY to try to use the bathroom with a bunny staring at you. And for the record, regular... -

I too enjoy many things with distilled vinegar, especially my homemade pickles. I've never gotten sick from vinegar or anything made with it. Sadly, I don't drink alcohol, but I do cook with it and have used distilled spirits and never had a problem. Most notably, the bottle of triple distilled vodka made from wheat I currently have. (I've very sadly never... -

Until my reminder on my phone went off yesterday afternoon at 2, I had totally forgotten that I had an appointment this afternoon for my eyes that my neuro was making me do. A dilated eye exam, fun times! Dinner is going to be a bit later than I anticipated because I need to be able to take off these really sexy disposable dark glasses to be able to see in... -
Happy Birthday! It's the best time of year for the birthday isn't it? (I would know ) It feels good to get that first time under your belt successfully. Gratz on that. Once you manage that it feels like the world opens up and feels less restrictive. Yay for you!

I do that stupid low histamine thing too. And low tyramine, if I like being sighted in both eyes. Thank god that a fair amount of both of those lists overlap. And that chocolate doesn't seem to set me off too badly as long as I don't have too much. I don't get nearly enough cheese in my diet though to make me happy. Every time I think about trying the... -

Thanks! I'm going to make my cake tonight so I can have it for breakfast. Because why not! I suppose it's technically a double birthday since I went gluten-free two days after my birthday. I think that means I get to eat twice as much cake and the calories don't count. We're waiting til Monday to make Chicken Piccata and risotto for dinner. And I... -

You always make everything sound good. My enchiladas turned out good. My husband is not impressed, so he's ordering pizza. I had an email to get free stuff with my next pizza order for my birthday (lol) so he's getting extra crap he doesn't need. And I guess he'll keep off my enchiladas and I'll have a good stock of freezer meals. Also, my super... -

My husband got a turkey for me at a really good after Christmas price, so I cooked that Wednesday. Tonight I'm making turkey enchiladas. It's my first time, so I'm hoping it turns out as awesome as planned. One of my favorite local stores apparently got way more Rudi's stuffing than they could sell. Probably had something to do with the $8 price tag.... -

Smith's is a Kroger family store. While I can't speak for other Kroger family stores, the last time I looked at a Smith's brand rotisserie chicken they were safe. It has been some months though because it's just plain cheaper for me to get them at Costco. -
ARCHIVED Trader Joe's Pink Himalayan Salt In Grinder
Adalaide replied to biancad's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use spices from Costco all the time and have never had a problem. There are a great many things from Costco (their brand) that says "processed in" or whatever, they're really awesome at disclosing that. So when they don't say that, I have no concerns at all. I've seen that same one at Costco. It's pink something salt. -

We actually managed our sweet and sour pork for dinner. It was awesome. I was even nicer than usual and let my husband have white rice with his. I made fried rice for me. I think tomorrow I won't cook. I'll have leftover soup and he can fend for himself. I'm sure he'll survive without me cooking for a day. Tuesday I believe I'm throwing a pork roast in... -

Because it's perfect timing right now, check your local stores for great deals on hams and turkeys. You can freeze leftovers, and stores want what wasn't sold out of their freezers. My husband scored us a nice sized bird for $8! So sure, I'm not a really huge turkey fan... but for that price I'm pretty sure I just turned into one. Then you just dig up all... -

Oh... I never heard of that. My Grammy's has venison and like 3 kinds of raisins and apples and... I think oranges or orange peels or something? Lots of fruit things. I don't know exactly, I haven't helped to make it since I was probably like 10. But it's awesome. -

I need to start making my own. I always grew up eating Grammy's, which is made with venison and is absolutely to die for but I can't exactly have it now. It is by far and without a doubt my favorite pie in the whole world, and thankfully my husband doesn't like it. I love him, but if I caught him eating the last of it one of us probably wouldn't survive... -

Oh... and also to prove I can deal with things like a grown up when I'm glutened. My favorite author has a series of 30some books, which is made up of a bunch of shorter series, mostly trilogies. But the most recent one is 5 books. I didn't know that when I decided to read the ENTIRE series chronologically. The last book of the 5 isn't out in paperback yet... -

I get so emotional. The worst of the neuro will come for me, and I'll be walking like a bumbling drunk in a few days and be a walking bruise in a week. I'm sure my husband was wondering if I was crazy this morning. I should have been all "this sucks, I'll call the insurance." Instead I became completely hysterical. Hopefully we'll both be feeling better soon... -

Don't forget the masking tape or painter's tape which won't leave a sticky residue and comes off easily. Duct tape works well in freezers as long as you take it off while it's still frozen. It'll actually stay stuck on, without all the expense of freezer tape. And it comes in fun colors! -

I have all these grand plans, all this stuff defrosting... and I got hit yesterday. And I had to deal with bull$hit from pharmacies and insurance today which for about 5 minutes had me reduced to complete hysterics. (The point at which I realized it wasn't random symptoms, it was a real hit, I'm not an irrational twit.) I'm following through on my plans... -
I've had buttloads of dental work done. The only time I've gotten sick is when I had an impression done for a crown. It wasn't glutened sick, I didn't get foggy or start walking into everything in the house, it was simply (hah!) GI sick. It was so bad that in those first hours I was like omg what if there was gluten. Nope, there was just something (who knows...
