ARCHIVED Probiotics And Digestive Enzymes?
Mom-of-Two replied to Kirstie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Question: I got the digestive enzymes by Source Naturals and my hubby has been using them too (he is gluten free with me, not due to celiac though) and he has tummy issues on a pretty regular basis- I thought these enzymes would really benefit but he is swearing to me that he is MORE bloated and gassy, has pressure in his stomach since taking them- I thought... -

The daycare provider is a celiac and gave your kiddo pretzels, oh my gosh! -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Taking Juice Plus ?
Mom-of-Two replied to Mizzo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have never tried Juice Plus, but what we do use is a whole food multi from Animal Parade (allergen free). They have whole foods (kale, spinach, mango, brown rice, papaya, the list goes on), probiotics, and digestive enzymes. They are a soft chewable and are sweetened with xylitol which is great for the teeth, Vitamin D3. I get them on Vitacost, they are... -

ARCHIVED My Dq8 Toddler's Diet
Mom-of-Two replied to faithforlife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is easier than training a teenager to stop eating gluten! I am going with that thought, as I move my almost 8yo gluten free (pos bloodwork, neg biopsy, I have celiac). We are also moving toward gluten free home, my hubby already went gluten free when I did, and now my oldest, so my 4yo (who tested normal) will probably eat gluten free at home, but I am... -
ARCHIVED Now gluten-free - Now Pain/nausea
Mom-of-Two replied to DJ88's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are several possibilities which are common, such as issues with dairy or soy. I would also wonder if your gallbladder is giving you trouble, since upper pain and nausea are very common, indigestion and gas as well. It is not always severe attacks from a stone, you may have general inflammation of the gallbladder which can leave you feeling that way... -
ARCHIVED 3 Month Follow Up Labs
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks, that is what I thought, coming from those high numbers, at 3 months I feel I must be doing something right! As for the shared kitchen, we replaced our cutting boards, utensils, and have a "gluten pasta pan" that is used only for their pasta, including a separate strainer and utensil, and a dish scrubber for gluten only. My oldest was taking bread... -
ARCHIVED 3 Month Follow Up Labs
Mom-of-Two posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So I had my 3 month follow up. Here are my labs: Before: Gliadin IgA - 150 Gliadin IgG - 24 Transglutaminase IgA - 84 Now: Gliadin IgA - 26 Gliadin IgG- 6 Transglutaminase IgA- 47 You can see the numbers have dropped, she thought it was great progress BUT didn't seem to think they should still be elevated - I actually thought the results were... -
ARCHIVED What Is Normal Sleep For 8 Yr Old?
Mom-of-Two replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Actually an 8 year old NEEDS 10-11 hours a night! So you are right on track. My kiddo will be 8 in August and loves her 11 hours. I am a HUGE believer in sleep for kids, it plays such a big role in mood, staying healthy, concentration, etc. and a good routine is a wonderful thing, especially during school months. For school, my daughter is asleep by... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For B12 Supplements To Work?
Mom-of-Two replied to jackay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just started on Country Life coenzyme B complex, which uses dibencozide/methylcobalamin for the B12, 500mcg each capsule but directions say you can 1 or 2 a day. I was curious if I should still add a sublingual B12 a few times a week. My B12 level was 357 which is well in "normal" range according to my primary dr who tested me but according to my celiac... -
ARCHIVED 5 Year Old -- Does She Need A Biopsy?
Mom-of-Two replied to stacytr's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Personally, I would take all positive results as a good thing, it does not usually happen in little kids! The biopsy is a choice you have to make, I am in a place where my 7yo had high ttg levels and they scoped her and found absolutely no damage, which actually frustrates me to no end. We of course did not want our child to have intestinal damage, but were... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins/supplements
Mom-of-Two replied to KMMO320's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just got an iron supp, called Easy Iron by Country Life, someone else makes a good one, Solgar- called Gentle Iron. They use iron bisglycinate, which is easy on the GI tract and non constipating. Both are in a vegetable capsule, which is vital to me beacuse I cannot swallow a huge iron caplet, I would never take them! Also, take them with vitamin C, like... -

I recommend the brands Nordic Naturals or Carlson's--- both extremely high quality and no burps or nasty aftertaste. HUGE difference. -
ARCHIVED Daughter positive
Mom-of-Two replied to scstampin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Aww poor Momma, all normal feelings for sure! I was pretty devastated when I learned I had it myself, it took a great while to really accept it! Well, I am still in that process, 4 months later really. It will be ups and downs for you, which happens, just dealing with your child being different is difficult, but kids adjust SO fast to change, and once habits... -
ARCHIVED Getting Kids Enough Vitamins On Gluten Free Diet
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
See, I always believed that B12 was much higher in meats and dairy- but, I have never been low on it before I went gluten free so I don't get it! Three months gluten free, I was tested low in iron, folate, and B12- which I was NOT low on at all 6 months prior when I was tested along with the celiac panel. I see my GI speciailist next week actually for a follow... -
ARCHIVED Gas And Can't Figure Out The Cause
Mom-of-Two replied to birdie22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would suggest the garlic hummus is a real possibility! Do you eat gluten-free grains? I ate some gluten free granola (KIND) the other day, and I had horrible gas for two days- ONLY thing different that I had, no eating out or anything abnormal. I am thinking of trying it again to see if it does the same!! We tried gluten-free pizza crust a few weeks... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Other Products Besides Food?
Mom-of-Two replied to Skittles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You need to watch your lotions in particular- think about putting it on your hands and then preparing a salad or cutting veggies- that type of thing. Chap sticks or lip balms for sure, but I find it easier to just check my personal products- Dove products are gluten free, their body wash and shampoos, deodorants. Check your toothpaste! I prefer to... -

ARCHIVED Getting Kids Enough Vitamins On Gluten Free Diet
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I didn't think about things like oranges and strawberries either, which she eats a great deal of. And black beans are on the list, that's a start since she eats those. -
ARCHIVED Getting Kids Enough Vitamins On Gluten Free Diet
Mom-of-Two replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ok, maybe that is my best bet then, to sneak them in and get creative! My 4 yo definately needs veggies, he also won't eat meat, stubborn thing. I have made kale chips twice and not been too pleased with the results, maybe I need a new recipe, I have just baked with olive oil and salt on a baking sheet- but the taste just wasn't what we expected. I think... -
ARCHIVED From Your Experience, What Would You Do?
Mom-of-Two replied to trayne91's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have the opposite problem with our almost 8 year old- she had positive blood work but a normal biopsy. Finding the right GI dr that is supportive and willing to try the diet, or diagnose without the "gold standard" biopsy result is key- I am actually getting another opinion from a new pediatric GI because I am not fond of the one I took her to, that did... -
ARCHIVED Getting Kids Enough Vitamins On Gluten Free Diet
Mom-of-Two posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As we prepare to start out almost 8 year old on the gluten free diet, I have some concerns- we are lucky that she eats meats and a bigger variety of foods than a smaller child- she eats eggs, black beans, meats, dairy, almonds, peanut butter, etc but she does eat a lot of pasta and loves it! She actually likes the brown rice pasta and the quinoa/corn pasta... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Code Raw Supplements

ARCHIVED Vitamin Code Raw Supplements
Mom-of-Two posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Nearly 4 months gluten free, I need iron, folate, vitamin D, and B12 up a bit- I am just under the low on iron and folate, she says not low on D ans B12 even though my D is 36 and B12 is in mid 300's (I consider those both very low!) I should clarify that I am NOT low due to malabsorption, my numbers were normal at time of diagnosis! She says when I cut all... -
ARCHIVED Tell Me About Your Repeat Blood Test
Mom-of-Two replied to 1974girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My GI dr is retesting me only 3 months in, in about two weeks here, with a follow up appt the week following. I have a suspicion my numbers will not be that much lower but I would like to know if I am on the right track, if my numbers are not changed at all I will likely step up my efforts, and eating out. I also have more questions so am happy to be going...
