  1. You should really learn to deal with it. You can't change how other people act, but you can change how you react. If their stupid comments make the diet "harder" for you, you need to toughen up. Kids make these comments to my seven year old celiac now, and I tell him the same thing. If a kid tells you they think they'd die if they couldn't eat wheat,...
  2. I used orange flavored stuff instead of khalua. It came out really good. A small sliver of cake is all you can eat. It's so filling. I'm going to my friend's house for dinner and bringing the Khalua version... hopefully, the second cake will look nicer than the first. My first was kinda messy looking. but tasted great~!
  3. geez... I meant frappucinno, not cappucinno!
  4. Kaiti, thanks! My kids never have coffee, of course, but I have this bottle of coffee flavored Cappuccino and they've been bugging me for a taste of it. I was going to let two of them share it last night as they were watching a movie and going to be up late anyway. Seriously, I don't give my kids coffee or soda or anything thing with stimulants, but...
  5. Vincent- you know that all sorts of studies are going on regarding celiac disease thanks to the money provided by the Celiac Walks and other fundraising. There may well be a test for celiac disease that a person can take with accuracy while off of gluten, in the near future. Even if it's in the distant future... A second child of yours would probably be...
  6. Sorry for all the questions tonight. Friday, after hours, web sites devoid of pertinent information... what's a person to do?!
  7. Our family is gluten free. It doesn't bother us if we go out to dinner and consume gluten full meals. No stomach issues.
  8. Does anyone know? It's not listed on the web site.
  9. lysine is supposed to be good in preventing recurring canker sores.
  10. My kids and I are making a flourless chocolate torte recipe we found *because Wholefoods didn't have theirs raspberry chocolate torte in today when I went to get it.... Anyway, I found a good recipe for the kids but then found this one for ME. Yum. I plan to make it tomorrow while they're at school. I'll let you know how it turns out. Chocolate...
  11. We're dairy free *mostly* because of what I learned about dairy on line. I don't think people need dairy products to be healthy. I think dairy does more harm than good. But we eat meat. It's not a P.E.T.A. inspired choice.
  12. I agree with that fact, but life sure is easier when you can make a kid a sandwich. I think finding alternatives to bread at a reasonable cost can make life easier for parents of newly dxed celiac kids. You have to have a lifestyle that embraces a breadless existence already to go that route with a little kid who was just dxed with celiac. Otherwise you...
  13. Does dairy free help with that?
  14. I don't remember, and I can't check because I lent it to a friend who STILL hasn't returned it....
  15. Open Original Shared Link Kinnikinnick has great bread/donuts/pizza crusts/ bagels. The price is a little high if you're on a tight budget. I think it's worth it to have the bread, though. You can place orders up to $200 for only $10 shipping. This is a great shipping deal. Your child can have half sandwiches supplimented by cheese sticks, yogurt...
  16. Open Original Shared Link all of these are good.
  17. I drink the Republic of Tea brand- Green Tea. I don't think it's going to help with celiac disease, but it's supposed to be good for ya anyway! I bought every brand of green tea I could find until I found the Republic brand at wholefoods. It's very mild tasting, not bitter. I think some green teas taste fishy just gross. Of course, stay away from the...
  18. My son was dx at three and is 6 now. He's been glutened twice that I'm sure of. I think it's easy enough and have tried very hard to make sure he feels like it's not a big deal or holding him back in any social situations. When there will be food at a social event, he brings his own. He goes to every kid party he's invited to and No... I do not attend...
  19. Gosh! Sorry. I happen to like Vincent....though we seem to disagree often. I posted before I read your admonishment. Vincent- thanks for the polite disagreement!
  20. Where we disagree is your extremly negative post, agressivly telling parents not to get treatment thier childern may very well need. Wrong. I suggested quite strongly that parents seek dx of add/adhd without the involvement of the school. This is what I said - Parent's and kids are well served to limit the school's involvement in a dx of add/adhd. Seek...
  21. I had more than one student dx with add/adhd. Even the ONLY student I believed actually had adhd did nothing more than distract everyone. Drugged, he still distracted everyone. Infact it wasn't until he was drugged so hard that he bobbed his head up and down trying to stay awake that he finally stopped moving to the point of distraction. In any case,...
  22. Side Effects of Drugs Used for ADHDAccording to the manufacturers' drug inserts and to the Physician Drug Reference, the following are some of the side effects of the drugs commonly used for ADHD. Amphetamine/amphetamine type Ritalin: depression, chronic abuse can lead to tolerance and psychic dependency with varying degrees of abnormal behavior...
  23. The over-dxing of add/adhd is fueled by the pharmaceutical companies that make tons of money off of the drugs they've concocted to "fix" hyperactivity in children. Those drug companies make money hand over fist when tired, overworked, or lazy, incompetent, parents/teachers and caregivers can't cope with the natural exhuberance of a normal, healthy child...
  24. Open Original Shared Link Just make sure you're in control of what goes on with your son. It's very easy to lose control when the "professionals" come in and start calling the shots. Teachers today are overburdened with large classroom, teaching mandates that can pull funding if students don't perform and more... It's easiest to teach kids who will...
  25. You don't have to submit your child to the testing, do you? I've heard that in some east coast schools they can deny a child in a school if the kid has been dx with add/adhd and the parent refuses to medicate the child. Frankly, I think there's too much medicating of the boys in this country. My celiac kid is wiggly and easily distracted. His teacher...
