  1. Good idea. I love the frugal life.
  2. Awhile back I posted a study that showed a link between famine and autism. It studied two different societies that underwent sustained periods of famine and the resulting increase in autism in the children born to starved women. I believe a link between autism and celiac would be an pregnant, undxed celiac woman who is unable to absorb nutrition having...
  3. There are 200+ symptoms of celiac disease. I've heard that they can morph throughout life. I believe you cannot predict what your reactions will be from glutening to glutening...or from decade to decade. Maybe some are hard-wired into your system, but you may find new and even more "fun" symptoms as you age. My son has a very leaky gut and I don't think...
  4. 100% gluten free. No "cheating", no accidents, no "a little bit won't hurt..." Your child needs to be 100% gluten free for life! You'll see a remarkable difference. And remaining 100% gluten-free means NO medications with all their nasty side-effects. This is a great disease to have.
  5. pumpkin cooks up very quickly and easily if you'd like to try doing it yourself. If you get those smallish, round baking pumpkins, remove the lid, scrape clean, replace lid and bake for 45 minutes on a cookie sheet... you can scrape out all the cooked pumpkin with ease. You can flavor the inside of the pumpkin with all the necessary spices prior to baking...
  6. Hey, thanks for the quick response! We'll use it tonight, and I won't worry!
  7. I still feel a twinge of guilt when I look at pictures of my Celiac son sitting in front of a gigantic gluten filled birthday cake... but then I think better of it. I don't deserve that guilt. You and I and all the other parents here are doing our damned best. My son changed so much after going gluten free, so quickly-- it was like having two separate...
  8. It is gluten free. Has anyone used it? Is there any problem? They assured me it's gluten free, but we always use the old el paso in a jar. I went to a new store and they didn't have my old el paso taco sause in a jar, so I looked around and found this package mix. There's no MSG, either. I called and confirmed the gluten-free status, but want to double...
  9. Keep working on them. Eventually, they'll have a slow news week and decide to use your Celiac idea as a filler!
  10. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Here are two good sites for great food. All of K's foods are great. You'll get really good at the diet really quickly. Especially if you're reading posts here.
  11. The real problem is lack of media support. If this was a well known disease, {as it should be at 1-133 having it} people would not consider feeding your child. People hear "peanut allergy" and don't screw with a kid... they hear Celiac disease and the idea is so abstract that they can't comprehend the harm they can do if they feed the person gluten. There...
  12. Thanks for posting that! I would like to point out that the guy writing the article said he received many inquiries into Celiac Disease which prompted his full length article on celiac disease. I would encourage all of you to email him your appreciation at his accuracy on the subject and how important it is to talk about a disease that affects 1-133 people...
  13. We got the little baking pumpkins last week. Cut the top off, clean out. Pour in a mixture of maple syrup, butter, cinnamon. *actually, any ingredients you like..you could do a pumpkin pie spice like allspice. You could skip the maple syrup and add something else you like. ANYWAY... add your mixture to the pumpkin. Replace the lid. Put on cookie sheet...
  14. If you are having what you believe to be gb problems, you should have it checked out by a dr. Gallbladder problems are not benign. You can live without a gb, but you cannot live with a diseased gb. It can kill you.
  15. Maybe a crash course in ulcerative colitis would convince her not to antagonize her bowels. Find out if she has celiac disease then educate her on her disease if she has it. Until it's a reality, she may be in denial. Ownership over something usually motivates a person to take control. If she has celiac disease, teach her that it's hers to manage, her...
  16. Supposedly, this book contains misinformation about how to live the gluten free lifestyle. I haven't read it, but it was discussed here at l e n g t h and many people were not impressed with some of the advice.
  17. I had my gb removed last winter.. It was not fun, but living w/out the gallbladder is no biggie. If you have to have it removed, don't worry too much. The first couple of weeks go very VERY low fat while your body adjusts.
  18. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Here are two sites that have excellent food. The kinnikinnick products are great. Pizza crusts, donuts, breads, bages, all great. Shipping very reasonable. Orders up to $200 are only $10 Great deal!! Chebe is great too. Very versitile. Also links to gluten free mall where they have Break...

    ARCHIVED Do's

Our DO is a nice enough guy, but doesn't know much about celiac. He isn't too egotistical to listen, though, which is a refreshing attitude in a dr.
  20. I ask them to prepare the scrambled eggs for my son in a separate frying pan. If that can't be done, I ask them for three hard boiled eggs. I ask them to microwave the bacon if it heated or warmed on the grill next to things like pancakes. Everyone is very understanding. I never have any trouble with any restaurant or wait person. Just be nice...not...
  21. The Principal. If you do this, you will have the additional headache of making sure the food is gluten free, prepared in a way that is 100% safe... no crumbs, clean hands, etc. My experience has been to provide the meal. My kid went to a private preschool with a meal provided by the school. I had to supply the snack as they did NOT have to provide it...
  22. You can provide the gluten-free breakfast, and she can eat it at school. If it's a private school that you're paying to go to, you may see if you can negotiate the cost of the included breakfast out of the tuition. They are not obligated to provide your child a breakfast and may tell you to deal with the cost. If it were a public school, open to all and...
  23. Well save that sentiment for all the people who smoke, drink, eat crap, drive without seatbelts, don't wear sunscreen, drive over the speed limit, policemen, military members, those who don't wear their bike helmets, doctors, people who climb high ladders, order their meat cooked rare, eat over-easy eggs, .... Why would you want to damage yourself? I don...
  24. We had an AE for a day. I wasn't ready for a puppy.... so we were babysitting. I would like to give the dog thing a try as my kids are older now and the dog will be more a part of the family. My oldest can take a dog for walks at his age now rather than me having to go on "walks" with three kids and a puppy.
  25. Shirley- is that an American Eskimo dog?
