  1. You should have your other kids tested for celiac disease. It runs in families. Two of my kids were neg for any and all celiac disease/sensitivities. So was I. We're still all gluten free. Dangerous Grains is an excellent book for the non-medical person.
  2. Dangerous Grains is a good, readable book. All of the medical refs are in the back of the book. It's not very clinical in the reading, though.
  3. Since she has been gluten free most of he life, wouldn't smptoms be minimal Why would the symptoms be minimal? Being gluten free for awhile doesn't minimize symptoms. Infact, some will tell you that the reverse is their reality. I would agree. If you're gluten intolerant, being flooded with gluten would be like being hit with a brick.
  4. Brace yourself for a bazillion "not even a crumb" comments.
  5. It will improve over time. Don't rush it. My son was dx at three... still has memory/recall issues at 71/2. At this point, I guess it's just who he is!
  6. You could hard-boil a dozen eggs at night to have in the morning. Sometimes I make a dozen eggs and for the next couple of days, my kids eat a cold egg squished onto toast. It's so easy. Bacon stays well in the fridge too, for a few days... and you don't even have to cook it in a pan. You can cook bacon on a plate that's layered with paper towels (to...
  7. Open Original Shared Link this guy may hear you before oprah does.
  8. Well, I'm glad they're looking into celiac disease to any extent, but I dismiss their "findings". I breastfed my kid and he was SO sick...already had celiac disease, imo. Research also STILL claims that gluten in a nursing moms diet doesn't pass along to the baby... I know first hand that that info is incorrect. Studies like that one are just "best...
  9. If you felt a vegan diet was best for your child...would you wait for approval? You have neg test results... That doesn't mean you're not allowed to put your child on a gluten free diet, proclaim him gluten sensitive, threaten all who would not take his gluten-free diet seriously, and wait on the medical community to come up with a diagnositic test that...
  10. I get a feeling that the leadership is more scared than anything else which is so unnecessary. I believe they've come to think of God as "fragile" and they're doing all they can to hold up the illusion that he's all powerful. In other words, God needs them to keep his weaknesses/mistakes a secret. When you stop to consider how many rogue men became saints...
  11. Me? Well, you're welcome!!!
  12. It can become quite irritated in the mouth and throat. My friend's children had it and they were CRANKY and very sore in their mouths. Popsicles or jello are in order.
  13. How about everybody get 19 friends and family members together, call your local news channel, get them to do a segment on celiac disease.... While being interviewed, everyone wear t-shirts/sweatshirts that say, "Oprah, do a show on celiac disease!" Explain to the interviewer that 1-133 have this disease and so few know about it. That your ultimate hope...
  14. Well, I am sorry you're upset, but I think you should try to look at the situation as ... these guys and their stupid rules are not going to get in the way of my relationship with God. I'm upset too, by some of the "rules" these guys have come up with, but I don't let that change the fact that I believe in the Catholic Church as being established by God...
  15. Scroll down to red highlighted parts... NORMS REGARDING LOW-GLUTEN ALTAR BREAD AND MUSTUM (From the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, June 19, 1995) I. Concerning permission to use low-gluten altar breads: A. This may be granted by Ordinaries to priests and laypersons affected by celiac disease, after presentation of a ...
  16. I DON'T KNOW!! I read it on some churchy thing my husband found. It was from Ratzinger or the cardinal from NY... I can't remember which one wrote it. But it specifically said that in order to aviod scandal, Celiacs and Alcoholics are NOT to be ordained priests! One for the lack of morals, the other ..... no reason was given, but I'm guessing it's to...
  17. When I was there, they carried Foods by George corn muffins and gluten-free pie crusts which made a great addition to our Thanksgiving menu. I can't find the either where I live now...so I MISS that place!
  18. He can have the wine ONLY. He can use his own cup...poured bfore Mass. That way no crumbs are in his wine. Our Catholic church is very cool with the needs of my son who is still a year away from first communion. Did you know that the Catholic church...in order to avoid scandal... does NOT allow Celiacs to be ordained priests?! I was shocked to read that...
  19. Is it sand papery? It could be fifth's disease.... If it is, it's not so bad for him... will take several weeks to clear out of his system. He will be TIRED and get itchy. Tired will last for several weeks.... Adults who get fifths can get JOINT PAIN THAT IS REALLY BAD. - I know first hand- Lasts several MONTHS and you cannot understate how bad...
  20. Open Original Shared Link Plus, I believe Kid Rock's sidekick, Joe C. died of complications due to celiac disease.
