ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Label But Wheat In Ingredients List
Pauliewog replied to pouncer's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I found this on their site: Open Original Shared Link I don't really understand what they mean by: "the wheat proteins are removed or de-natured by the soy sauce manufacturing process and therefore there is no longer any detectable gluten present." That makes it sound like any soy sauce would be ok. -
I researched further on the egg topic and found out that overcooked eggs are the ones that stink. If you don't overcook they are fine. I tried this and my cooler is smell free! I was worried that I'd undercooked them but they were perfect. I just ate two for breakfast and have no stink. Apparently I have been over cooking eggs for years!

I am going away this weekend and the hotel breakfast is a quick bread filled take away kind of thing. I want to bring my own hard boiled eggs. I find that whenever I travel with cooked eggs they totally stink up my cooler. The taste is fine, just the stink I hate. Anyone have any ideas how to bring hard boiled eggs that won't stink?

ARCHIVED Sudden Adversion To A Food I Can Eat?
Pauliewog replied to RuskitD's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have had the same thing happen especially with fish. I love grilled fish but right now I can't go near it. I have no desire to eat it. I am still ok with sushi! In my case, I think weather plays a part too. It is really hot and humid where I live right now. I have no interest in even warm food. I have been eating all my meals cold. I usually steam a bunch... -
ARCHIVED Trip To Japan In August
Pauliewog replied to Sira Raven's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I just finished lunch which included bread from my Gopan! I have the newest model (Dec 2011-I think). Yes, it is noisy when it grinds but it doesn't bother me. It isn't that long. I find that the bread is actually moist. I like it better after I slice it and toast it. It is not a perfect replacement for bread. But for someone living in Japan where there are... -
Tonight I attempted to make almond butter. You have grind the almonds forever in the food processor. As I was doing it I could smell the motor of my food processor overheating. I decided it probably wasn't a good idea to blow the motor on this little project. The almonds were ground up but not creamy yet. I started playing around and I added some maple syrup...

ARCHIVED How Long Did It Take?
Pauliewog replied to phil1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I went gluten free in Feb. and in April I finally felt the foggy brain was gone. My energy was back. In fact, there were days when I'd go to take a nap as usual and I couldn't even sleep! For me, I really started feeling better once I relaxed about going gluten-free. And to do that I just stopped eating ANYTHING processed (and I don't eat out). I have a handful... -
ARCHIVED Trip To Japan In August
Pauliewog replied to Sira Raven's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
The Gopan doesn't grind rice to flour. Is more like a rice cooker in that the water and rice get heated and ground up into mush. Somehow that mush magically becomes a loaf with the rice flour, sugar, yeast, salt and olive oil. It uses 320 grams of whole rice and only 80 grams of rice flour. You are right about repetition. I can only make that. I tried to... -
ARCHIVED Trip To Japan In August
Pauliewog replied to Sira Raven's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I recently bought that bread maker! It is called Gopan made by Panasonic (originally Sanyo but Sanyo was bought by Panasonic). The majority of the recipes with the machine are rice with gluten added. However there is one, and ONLY one, function on the machine for "gluten zero."(their words, not mine!) It uses whole grains of rice, rice flour, yeast, sugar... -
ARCHIVED Trip To Japan In August
Pauliewog replied to Sira Raven's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I live in Japan now. I am a 20 year resident but only 4 months into eating gluten free. I find it very hard when it comes to eating out because of all the soy sauce used. You are lucky to have your sister's apt. and can prepare food. For me, sushi is the easiest thing to eat out. I just bring my own tamari (wheat free soy sauce). Other than that I end up... -

Have you looked at the Kiss My Face line for moisturizers? This one says gluten free and I don't see soy listed unless it is hidden in one of those other words! Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Negative Test Result
Pauliewog replied to scaredblossom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also tested negative for Celiac. I had the genetic test as well. Twice I did a gluten challenge (eating gluten after being off of it). Both times I spent 12 hours vomiting. The doc and I settle on non-Celiac gluten intolerance. Like you, I had so many symptoms and problems. Being gluten free I feel so much better. I am not willing to give up another day... -
Knorr Bouillon
Pauliewog replied to mroper's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A friend of mine just sent me a little care package of what is supposed to be gluten-free foods. There is a box of Knorr vegetable bullion. One ingredient is autolyzed yeast extract. There is also a package of vegetable dip mix (Knorr). The vegetable dip mix says autolyzed yeast extract (barley). The bullion does not use the word barley. So, is this autolyzed... -
Look into a Japanese rice cooker like Zojirushi. Not cheap but they have all sorts of bells and whistles. There are different functions for white or brown rice. They have a timer. Mine is quite old but the newer once I have seen look great.

ARCHIVED Gluten Problem Or Acid Reflux?
Pauliewog replied to cevans's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My whole search into what was wrong with me started with this "bubbling" I felt in my stomach. The doctor thought acid reflux but I never had that burning, something is moving up, feeling. To make a long story short, I tested negative for Celiac but after becoming VERY sick after two gluten challenges the doc and I settled on "gluten sensitive." The bubbling... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Snacks
Pauliewog replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I recently got hooked on dried sliced mango. They are delicious. Also, my dad just sent me some wasabi flavored seaweed. Sounds strange but they are small pieces almost like a chip. He got them at Trader Joe's. However any Asian market might have something like it. The sesame oil only ones are good too. -
I was talking to a local baker one time about eggs. He told me that he noticed his bread had a "fishy" smell to it. He was using regular supermarket eggs and he said the chickens were fed some sort of fish meal (this is in Japan). He switched eggs. The new eggs come from chickens that eat what chickens should eat and now the smell is gone, he said. I have...

ARCHIVED Serious Relief From Apple Cider Vinegar
Pauliewog replied to MitziG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My body's response to gluten is like your daughter's. I have some ACV (Bragg's, I believe). I will definitely try it next time. Of course I am working hard to not have a "next time!!!" -
ARCHIVED Traveling Overseas ... Any Guidance?
Pauliewog replied to Pisqualie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My friend just returned from London and brought me a bag full of gluten free goodies. It certainly is not uncommon there (unlike here in Asia). I think with some googling you can find a lot of restaurants catering to gluten-free diets. One thing I often do is use Google of that country to get better hits. In this case use Google.co.uk. -
ARCHIVED Husband Thinks I'm Going On A Fad Diet!
Pauliewog replied to Stubborn red head's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten or no gluten, weight loss is still the matter of calories in and calories out. I am now 3 months into gluten free and I haven't lost any weight! While wheat is out, I've found all sorts of yummy things to take up those calories!!! -
LOVE okra! It is actually my favorite green vegetable. I usually just chop it up and sautee it a few minutes in sesame oil and eat it with my eggs in the morning!

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Know If Hooly Farms Fresh Chicken Is Safe?
Pauliewog replied to lucky28's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
About a year ago I read a book called Eating Animals. The author goes into the ways meats are produced. In the book he talks about chicken and the water content. As I remember it, he said that chicken in the US is gutted and then has to be kept cool. The US gov. allows the chickens to be kept in a cold tank of water. During that time the chicken absorbs that... -
Cats are carnivores. I don't see why they are eating grains. No wonder they have diarrhea! I cook all the food for my 3 dogs. They eat meats, fish, sweet potatoes, pumpking and other vegetables. No risk of cc. I'd try your cat on some fish and see how he does.
