  1. I recently bought their lip balm. To tell the truth, I was attracted to the shape of the container. Then I saw it was labeled gluten free which made me even happier because I didn't have to read all the ingredients! I didn't know they had other products. Definitely will look into them! Thanks for the information.
  2. I just returned from an overseas flight. I took basically what you wrote. Just be careful that your final destination allows in the food you have leftover. I had some sliced deli meat and had to toss it on the plane because meat isn't allowed into Japan. I didn't cool my meat or cheese. It was fine. I had a midnight flight and realized I had way more food...
  3. I started eating gluten free as a vegetarian in Feb. I found I was always hungry and never really felt "good." On the forum I read about the Paleo/Primal diets and started looking into that. Now, 10 months later, I am eating meats and feeling great! I am not happy to eat meat but I do (a lot of eggs and fish, some chicken, occasional pork/beef). I think one...
  4. Has anyone tried Z'tejas? My friend wants to have lunch there this week. They have a gluten-free menu but I am still worried about cross contamination.... thanks.
  5. I have been gluten-free since Feb. I live overseas and will be visiting Calfornia for Xmas. I'm from CA originally but I haven't been to the US since going gluten-free. During my trip I will have a couple of nights in a hotel. I am specifically choosing ones that have microwaves and fridges. However, I also would like to enjoy food I can't get where I live...
  6. Back when I was trying to figure out why I was sick I did a gluten challenge. I had been off gluten a couple of weeks. I had Friday off so I started eating gluten on Thursday knowing I'd wake up deathly ill on Friday. I felt fine! I continued to eat gluten through the weekend. Then I woke up Monday morning and BAM, I spent 12 hours vomiting. I haven't had...
  7. More things to read, but I think you'd be a prime candidate to follow a "primal" diet. Check out Marksdailyapple.com Essentially you eat proteins and veggies. It is actually rather easy. Six months after going gluten free I hadn't lost any weight and was just feeling so-so and hungry a lot. Like you, I ate a lot of rice/rice products. I guess I thought...
  8. I think the best thing to do would be to find a fish market in your area and ask them where you can get sushi grade fish. Years ago when I lived in San Diego there was a fish restaurant that had a small market. You could order sushi grade fish from them. My nephews (6/8 years old) love sushi and I saw this little gadget and thought it would be a fun Xmas...
  9. Ken- I have found that most large restaurants or chain type restaurants in Japan now have allergy menus. I don't expect them in family run places, but any of the bigger places do. Sometime it is a question of how up to date they are as menu items change with the seasons.
  10. What part of the sushi has gluten? The rice?
  11. Basically, forget eating out. I am in Japan and I never eat out anymore. Everything uses soy sauce. I have been able to find gluten free tamari which I take with me to sushi. Sushi restaurants and a farm type place owned by a friend are the only restaurants I can go to. Singapore has a quite a few western restaurants so you can see if any of them have...
  12. In mid Aug. I started following a "primal" diet (check out Marksdailyapple.com). I have lost about 10 pounds in what has felt like a rather "effortless" diet. I have not been able to drop a pound for years. I've been gluten free since Feb. and still lost no weight. I have found primal very easy to follow and very satisfying. What I like is that I can keep...
  13. I am interested in the Eden Foods miso. Has anyone tried it? Open Original Shared Link
  14. What restaurant was it? I am going to CA in Dec. and I LOVE Mexican!
  15. That Kikkoman product is not real mirin. It says mirin style seasoning. The first ingredient is corn. Mirin is made from rice. For example this Eden Foods brand is "mirin." Of course the question is what a restaurant uses. If a restaurant is using the "mirin style" then they are clearly cutting corners and are not a quality Japanese place! Open Original...
  16. I'm also by no means an expert here, but like you, I have been gluten-free since Feb. this year. Tested negative for Celiac but reacted severely to two gluten challenges. Right now I am feeling awesome and I hate to admit it but it is no doubt to eating meat. A month ago I decided to start following the paleo/primal diet. I have been a vegetarian for many...
  17. I have a small bottle of sesame oil that I keep in my car. I take it in to use as dressing. To me it has more flavor than using an olive oil.
  18. I've been gluten free since Feb. this year. I am learning that when I accidentally get some gluten my first symptom is a killer headache. Does anyone else get headaches and is there a recommended OTC medication you use?
  19. The download is free and you don't need a credit card. I live overseas so my address doesn't fit in their page. I just used a fake mailing address and my real email to get the download. No problem! Just make sure to untick any boxes where they say they will send you mail if you don't want to be on the mailing list.
  20. I think the larger wraps are easier to work with. Also, there are two types. One is the usual round wrap. The other type looks more like a mesh or woven rice paper. When I went to Vietnam we did a cooking class. In the class we used the mesh type to make rolls then fried them. Then you put the roll on a leafy piece of lettuce along with whatever sauce and...
  21. I am also going camping for the first time in a few weeks. I figure my usual egg omelet is fine for breakfast. If you BBQ for dinner then you should be able to have a lettuce burger or kebab along with everyone else. With a BBQ you can cook all sorts of veggies and meats and eat them the next day for lunch.
  22. I just started eating paleo/primal 5 days ago. I have lost 4.5 pounds. I realize it is probably a lot of water weight but I don't care so long as the scale moves down! As I considered doing this, I also read Why We Get Fat: and what to do about it. It isn't specifically a paleo book, but it goes into the science and research behind eating grain/carb free...
  23. I had to go check my salt after reading these posts. I have two kinds, both from Costco, and neither lists anything other than salt as an ingredient.
  24. The past two weeks or so I have been waking up in a complete panic due to dreams where I eat gluten. In the one last night I was holding something. I began to nibble on it then I realized it was bread. I got all freaked out that I was eating bread. Then I woke up! Does anyone else ever dream they are eating gluten foods? I am almost 6 months gluten free.
