  1. So I was experimenting in the kitchen today, and I made a new recipe. What you're going to do is this: 65 grams brown sugar and 5 tablespoons of butter/margarine/substitute. Combine them in a bowl and cream together until nice and smooth. Add one or two egg-whites. In another bowl, put in 100 - 225 grams of pure, unsweetened REAL cocoa powder...
  2. My bloating hasn't gone away yet. It's not dairy, it's not soy. It's just not gone away yet, though it has gotten considerably smaller! So maybe your body is just different?? But if it is casein itself, only a trial will find that out!
  3. I thought they were both yeast extracts...so Vegemite is not. I have to look for the gluten free version, now I'm curious!
  4. Only 6 days? Usually symptoms won't go away until maybe a month or two, even though sometimes it's immediate, but it's different for different people. I think you might want to find a new paediatrician!
  5. Vegemite isn't gluten free? That's another difference from Marmite. Marmite is, at least as far as I know. But I know what you mean. For me, just looking at the marmite picture brings a lot of nostalgia!
  6. ....you are getting enough sleep? I know sometimes it may seem like you're sleeping soundly, but infact you're not. But this doesn't seem to be the case. Someone told me that when I feel tired, just make a quick movement...maybe jump up and down or run in a circle for 5 seconds, it may sound ridiculous but it worked for me Other than that...
  7. It sounds like a glutening -- from what I've read. Though someone with children would help you more, have you considered that it could also be casein intolerance? But how has she been feeling since you've taken her off?
  8. I hope it's just a phase...I've never noticed it before. Oh well, for now I'll just try different spreads. I think it's a fat-thing too, because the olive oil isn't doing any good for me either, which is strange -- last week I could eat it no problem OH how strange is the body!
  9. I've learnt that I can tolerate oats only around the equivalent of 70-75 grams....which is just short of a bowl of porridge Brands that may have CC'd oats, are Quaker, Scot's, and practically all brands unless they're labelled as non-cc'd, like Cream Hill and Only Oats. I hope you feel better!
  10. No matter how much you explain it, some people will never understand it. That's what I've learnt in the short few weeks, and it's what I've been told here. When I explain it, I refer to peanut allergies. I say "Would you give peanut butter, to someone with a nut allergy?" No. "Why not?" They'd react. With coeliacs, it's slightly different in that we may...
  11. It's funny because I can have skimmed and partyl skim milk just fine...only margarine and butter upset me--which is odd! Thanks for the suggestions! I am trying the olive oil, and I am going to look for the Earth Balance. I've seen it...picked it up and said "nah", but I think I was wrong there! Now I need to see what ghee is.
  12. Ha! I've been baking less too. I used to make scones, cookies, biscuits, cake, and everything. Now, I have been using box-mixes because I can't find good gluten-free flour The gluten-free bakery here sells the flour for (expensive price) per pound --excuse me but no. I bought some at the bulk store for 1.45 a pound. It's nice, but has a weird flavour...
  13. Oh my friend! I just went through an extremely similar experience! Some doctors are quite ignorant, some are just lazy and don't want to help, and some don't know how to. Maybe you should look around for a coeliac-friendly doctor, someone who actually knows what they're doing? But in that event, and you want to be tested, you will have to go back on gluten...
  14. Canned pumpkin? Never tried that. I will. I replace with applesauce and yogourt, but I never knew you could use pumpkin. Also, thanks for the olive oil suggestion. I've never tried that.
  15. Today I noticed when I ate it, it made my stomach queasy -- it never did before I was gluten free, maybe I just didn't notice because usually I'd eat butter with wheat bread? (It's a different feeling than being glutened) Anyhow, now I need a substitute because I like to bake - and I like butter on toast. I've read a few things I can use to substitute when...
  16. Starvation-mode? Ha! Never knew there was such a thing I think I'm starting to settle down now, I think. My weight has been the same since last I weighed myself. I think it may be water weight, too. For what it's worth, it doesn't bother me. It's better than looking like a rake painted white
  17. I know how you feel I am just getting over this myself! What I noticed was one: that eating sugar with my breakfast made me hungrier, and I used to just go mad eating and that would set the tone for the day....which would be constantly eating small snacks. I was spiking my bloodsugar, it was my own fault. I've stopped this and for the last month or...
  18. Maybe you are also lactose/casein intolerant? I know some people just can't eat cheese. My grandmother, she can't drink milk. It makes her sick, yet she can have cheese and butter and biscuits and cookies no problem. She can also have it with cereal and porridge, but not on it's own
  19. Waitrose? They have good customer service so try giving them a call to see what's in the mint sauce....it could very well be a wheat thickener. But I hope you're feeling well now!
  20. I had a healthy-in-my-own-eyes supper A Glutino English muffin toasted under the grill, with a gluten-free turkey sausage-thing, a tomato, and vegetables on the side. Then I had a Kinnikinnick Banana muffin, chocolate-coated almonds, dark chocolate Cadbury bar...hmm, what else, OH! Chocolate homemade flourless cookies with quinoa. It was my only...
  21. So, before I knew about my coliacs, I couldn't gain weight. I used to be SOO hungry I'd be practically bingeing, always craving sweet and chocolaty foods..and food in general. I didn't have an E.D....I was just SO hungy. Anyways, I was underweight for my height and I was trying to gain weight. Now, after going gluten-free even though it hasn't been too...
  22. Oh I'm completely fine now, it was just a shock as it was my first "glutening" since However I have a feeling this will be happening at LEAST once a week for a little while. I'm trying to press into some people the concept of cross-contamination. Some people just DON'T get it! I say "would you use the same spoon to used for peanut butter, then...
  23. ...and of course Irish. How do you enjoy it? Or better yet....CAN you eat it? It's supposed to be gluten-free, and it doesn't bother me....yet, but how 'bout you?
  24. Not from a doctor I can assure you When I figured it out, my doctor had merely suggested it and left it at that. I joined this forum then, and got smart!
  25. Well Sunday I had dinner at my Dad's. Chicken which was stuffed with stove-top like dressing. I was given the chicken leg, which was kept separate from the dressing. I then loaded my plate with vegetables, ate, and enjoyed! Monday however I had a splitting headache, and my stomach was trying to talk to me. I'm telling you this because this is my first...
