ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Just Not Join In?
Mateto replied to kristianne26's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We don't have potlucks per se, but my whole community does get together (there's only about 400-500 of us, and we all know one another very good), and bring food to the Church hall, and we have a traditional meal, i.e....blood pudding, rarebit, soda bread, scones, corned beef, cabbage, roast beef, sandwiches, biscuits, cookies, and a cuppa. Everyone makes... -
ARCHIVED Toaster Bags
Mateto replied to Mateto's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Doing that today, possibly. I just needed something for the moment -
I can't seem to find any toaster bags to use in the mean time, so, would parchment paper work to toast paper in a toaster to avoid cross-contamination? Will it catch fire? Will my bread become contaminated

So, these past few days I've been feeling absolutely HORRIBLE! Today, I finally did it and bought me a loaf of Genius bread, and tomorrow I'm stocking up on gluten-free foodstuff. Though I'm not diagnosed officially yet - I'm just so tired and sick of being tired, and tired of being sick! I am just going to try and see what happens. If I need a biopsy...

So, I'll soon be going gluten-free, and I am wondering what brand names do you personally, find have the BEST products? I am able to get many brands here, in different places. I could also order online...but you? What are your choices at grocery time?

I think Doctors SHOULD do a nice Google every now and then. They might learn something I know they're educated, but to tell you that it only affects digestion is quite ridiculous. Would it hurt for him to say "We'll check you for _____"? Then again they probably wouldn't check you for the right thing and you'd have to end up getting re-tested...

ARCHIVED Getting Tested Tomorrow
Mateto replied to Mateto's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They should bloody well know what's wrong with me by the end of the week, after taking 6 or 7 vials of blood. To be sure, when the nurse was finished taking my blood, I said "and what am I being tested for?". "We're doing a general run-through, and also checking for coeliac sprue". Mushroom, nothing you listed was on my sheet-thing that I had to... -
ARCHIVED Getting Tested Tomorrow
Mateto posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well since the lab tested my blood for everything but coeliacs -- which was the REASON I was tested to begin with...I'm going for more bloodwork tomorrow morning. My new doctor is not the best, my old doctor was excellent but she's on break right now, and the fill-in...well I don't believe she has a clue as to whether anaemia and anorexia are two different... -
I said worse than that. I do feel bad now though, kind of.

So today I went to the doctor to get the results to my bloodwork. She had the results, only she never had the results to the coeliac test -- which is the main reason I was tested of course. Then she told me I was bulimic or anorexic, I had to be, because I look like it. It was no use trying to defend myself because she kept saying "umhumm", you know...

What about omelettes? Whisk two eggs together, maybe put in some milk or lactose-free milk, or water even (fizzy water works too, it becomes light and fluffly), and you could (if it's allowed on the diet) even add a teaspoon of rice/tapioca/and gluten-free flour to thicken it. Then fry it on a pan, and when it's finished, cut it into strips or fold it in...

ARCHIVED Another Question
Mateto replied to Mateto's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Woo! That's good to hear. I'm really hoping I have the coeliacs disease, because I JUST WANT to FEEL BETTER! -
When you're bent over in pain in the doctor's office, the doctor comes in, looks at you, and asks cheerily "And how are we today!". I think my answer alone caused her to test me for more than coeliac disease.
-
Here's another question you've probably answered 4,500 times before. It's about symptoms. Is it normal for your symptoms to come and go? Say, one day you eat bread and you get sick, and another day you eat bread but nothing happens?

ARCHIVED I Can't Wrap My Head Around This...
Mateto replied to Pandoranitemare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Most chocolate IS gluten-free, however, in my own stupidity, I've cross contaminated my supply PLUS what I was given for Easter. Also, I don't want to buy more because it would be a waste of what I have...do Cadbury come from a gluten-free factory? I must ask them! Anyhow, you are SO lucky you NEVER had the chance to do the "Just one more" thing. It's... -
ARCHIVED I Can't Wrap My Head Around This...
Mateto replied to Pandoranitemare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know very well how you feel! Like you, I am awaiting diagnosis. Like you, I have been eating foods PACKED with gluten, because the thought of them being "off-limits" is frightening. For me it's the chocolate. Well, it was. I binged last week on chocolate, because I know I might not be able to have it any more. That was last week. THIS week it's going... -

ARCHIVED Negantive Celiac Sprue Blood Test
Mateto replied to Marini's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hurray! So am I, as well! -
I can understand the healthcare being slow. It's a pain in the rear. However, if you do eventually get tested for coeliacs, don't forget to start eating gluten again before you do, so that it will show up in your tests that indeed your body cannot handle the gluten. I hope though that the reason you're losing strength isn't bad and can be easily fixed

......I love kippers....Which are sardines?

I'm turning into a full-on rager! I got made at the television today because I didn't like the way the penguins on the Science programme were walking. I'm now in my chair, gritting my teeth because I have to listen to someone in the next room over, talk about his day. That person is someone who I have nothing against, we get along fantastically! All...

For tea, we're having fish and chips. But looking at this thread is giving me ideas for what to have the next week. I hope to get my diagnosis soon.
