  1. Sorry Meaning a month gluten free and then challenge.
  2. Hi June27 I had a slow progression due to the fact I knew nothing about celiac and in hindsight am clearly a slow learner ! Have not eaten breakfast cereals since childhood or dumplings or yorkshire pudding as they would lay me out! Went gluten light about 2 years ago (approx) after I was no longer able to eat pasta, pizza, porridge, sandwiches...
  3. Hi I have hashi's - took thyroxine (150mcg) for 30 years - (slowly stopped the thyroxine due to hyper symptoms from anemia caused by blood loss) -then nothing for about a year (till seriously hypo) then slowly onto natural thyroid hormone (ERFA) 2-3 grains now. Had suffered palpitations for as long as I can remember (had lots of heart tests at one time...
  4. Hi I just can't eat cannned tuna either. Used to have it pre-gluten-free but felt so yuk all the time back then that may not have noticed. Pretty soon noticed when gluten free though (along with lots of other things ). Have tried it packed in just spring water but no good. I can eat canned salmon and mackerel no problem. Can eat fresh tuna ok ...
  5. Hi Gemini I am sure gluten and soy both affect my bodies use of my meds. Never noticed a problem with other foods but I do have problems with low ferritin and this makes me hypery. My thyroid gland swells if I take iodine or fish liver oils - I crash rapidly and Vitamin C tickles my thyroid (not swelling but tickling)!!! Would not take any of these. I...
  6. I believe that stress is not only brought on by external events but also caused by the body having problems from struggling to manage with low thyroid and of course, from ingesting gluten! These cause the body stress and can lead to high cortisol levels followed by adrenal fatigue. (IMHO). Loads of other causes too like inflammation, etc.
  7. I know it's good for you - but I just can't go there . Even thinking about it ....... Can't make my own pickles either (for hubs to eat) because of the smell - it really did leave a lasting impression ... Sorry - seem to have strayed from the topic.
  8. Not sure that this will help your situation but a few thoughts anyway. I have hashimoto's (since teens) but am certain my thyroid responds to what I eat. I get a thing that I call 'hyper while hypo'. I take my thyroid meds sublingually (sp?) so must assume it is not an absorbtion problem having an effect but I wonder if gluten (and to my mind soya) somehow...
  9. Just thought I should point out that my paragraph about celiac in Scandinavia is not intended to be a fact. Personally though, if I had a baby (too old by the way) I would not now give it any gluten and even when older believe that it should present very little of any diet. Then again - I'm a pretty anti-gluten person.
  10. Hi Not much help - but I'm sure I have read somewhere that in Norway (or somewhere in Scandinavia ) due to the higher incidence of celiac it is now recommended that babies and young children are gluten free. This apparently gives you a better chance of tolerating gluten in later life! My eldest brother has celiac, my other brother has had seizures...
  11. Have often thought that responses here are occasionally aggressive, patronizing and just plain mean especially to some poor soul who fell off the cart and made the mistake of eating some gluten. However, can't make head nor tail of this post and would like to say I'm speechless (except obviously not)! At the end of the day a danish each morning (or...
  12. I believe (and please note, I could be talking rubbish here as my research into candida was quite a long time ago ) that anti-fungal drugs and caprylic acid can cause a rebound of overgrowth when stopped. I believe ( ) that this is not the case with Threelac - and no, I don't sell it! However ( ) people who are prone to candida overgrowth tend to always...
  13. I have been trying to remember when I first took Threelac - maybe about 6 or 7 years ago and it was not well known here in the UK. It's a probiotic and the bacteria munch on candida and kill them off (or something like that) - rather simplified version. It gave me serious die off (made me feel I might be dying off at first) and it is important not to have...
  14. Thought this might be of interest. My hubs kindly gave up gluten the same time as me to help. He has psoriatic arthritis quite badly (23 years) and psoriasis before that. Guessing timeframe, but I would say has had a chronic cough for about last 8 years - on and off. A soft, irritating cough especially when talking. He takes long term anti-inflammatory...
  15. Hi there Diflucan and Nystatin are anti-fungals? Presumably, you are taking them to help fight candida albicans? I spent about 10 years putting up a fight against what I thought was raging candida - turns out it was raging celiac! No idea if I had candida or not but I'm guessing I did have - between the celiac and thyroid problems. Was prescribed...
  16. Very similar to gluten - go down and form a great big brick of a lump. Bloated up, headache, constipation and depression - in fact, may have mentioned on here before that I think they make me cry (I know that sounds stupid) but they make me miserable and teary ! The gluten free version has the same effect - maybe not quite as bad, but no good. Won't...
  17. Hi Thanks for the replies. Have thought about low calcium before as I believe it can trouble celiacs. The small amount of milk in coffee is probably completely cancelled out by the caffeine anyway!! Have always had issues with taking vitamin/mineral supplements (they make me ill in varying ways) although in the past they may of course, had gluten...
  18. Hi Chocolate can do it to me and in the past I've had my suspicions about grapes too. Luckily, only get it rarely - don't want to encourage that.
  19. In what way is your bladder irritated - if that isn't a stupid question? This is the end of the line with me for sugar - I have been following a paleo/scd type diet for about a week quite strictly so eating that choc made the symptoms very clear for me. It's no good, I just can't eat it - no real surprise actually. I think I'm a particularly slow learner...
  20. Answering my own posts now - just starting a headache .
  21. Hi all Anyone get probs with sugar and symptoms. It's not really coming as any suprise to me but I can't have sugar either. I don't take sugar in drinks, etc - my only weakness is choc which I mainly avoid because of the soy. Have just been reading the soy posts and have to add more symptoms which I suspect are from the sugar. Rapid heartbeat...
  22. Mine is worse evening and night. Sitting watching telly in an evening - not good. In the past, before knowing what it was, I tried wearing gloves and putting bits of elastoplast on end of each finger .
  23. Hi there Just thought I would add ... I believe my dad may suffer from gluten ataxia. It has come on significantly in about the last 6 years and he now has great difficulty walking and balancing. He goes from furniture to wall, etc so he has something to hold. Age 88. He recently had a brain scan which showed bright patches - the consultant thought...
  24. Hi Have just replied to a similar topic - and yes, one of my symptoms from getting cc'd is wanting to eat. Pre-gluten free I had problems with eating, well for years. Now I know, it's a glutened sign. The 'wanting to eat' isn't hunger, in fact eating (more gluten) in the past made it worse. Sounds like you could have been cc'd. Sugar/carbs...
  25. Hi again! Have just re-read your post Katz and see you finished with being 'tired of the struggle'. For me, the 'struggle' has been like part of the learning curve. A real low for me was finding I couldn't manage processed food, rice or potatoes. That got me super resentful . If I could eat all the gluten free stuff suggested on the Newbie thread...
