  1. Hi Katz I am celiac and hashi's too and similar age so undiagnosed celiac for donkey's years. I too struggled with what I assumed was some kind of eating disorder including seeing psychologists, etc (did no good) and I just lived with it. In hindsight I am sure it is all due to the effects of gluten. Maybe it's due to malnourishment or something. One...
  2. Think you could be right. Have noticed today itchy lumps back of roof of mouth and these are where the itch is coming from. Also some itchy face around mouth. Well, I shouldn't be eating choc anyway as have big issues with soy - don't know what I'm thinking this week . (Just rubbed my face then)!
  3. Hi there Wasn't sure where to put this but just lately, about last week, I have found myself itching roof of mouth with tongue - very itchy. I have had this in the past but had forgotten all about it. Now it's back. Have been having some chocolate lately (which I can't eat) so although no gluten ingredients, guess I'm getting cc'd. Battled candida...
  4. Soy is similar reaction to gluten and as above makes me super nauseated. Can't believe it - I can't eat canned tuna either - makes me really sick. This all came on about 3 - 4 months gluten free and I have wondered if it is one of the reasons I can't eat gluten free processed food (health bars, choc, etc) they all contain soy. In the past (pre gluten...
  5. Just watched the video clip - I have the very good book 'Dangerous Grains' by James Braly which covers the same subject. I agree with it completely as I quickly discovered that I cannot eat any of the grains including rice. I don't eat corn anyway as my thyroid medication contains trace maize starch and I don't want to antagonize corn! Well worth watching...

    ARCHIVED Eggs?

Never ate eggs as a child as hated them. We have our own chooks now and I seem to be fine with them. Give them a scoop of organic wheat each afternoon (hubs deals with chook food feeding - available to them all the time) and wash my hands after - picking up eggs anyway, so would of course. I seem to be fine with them - often eat two hard boiled hot...
  7. Back again Plenty of veg and some fruit too!
  8. Hi there So envious of Australia and appreciate the Star Trek reference. Just to agree with the other posts really - I struggled too and am definitely helped paleo style, kind of back to basics eating. I find I need plenty of protein (I'm talking meat, fish and eggs) - not large amounts but regularly through the day. If not I start to feel low blood...
  9. Hi Gluten makes me horribly hot especially my face sweating. This can last ages especially if under stress or exercising. Thought it was just hot flushes but happens like clockwork if I get cc'd then keeps on the rest of the day. In my own mind, it is caused by a rise in cortisol (stress to the body caused by gluten or other problem food) . Like a stressful...
  10. Hi My migraines (call them that but I don't get flashing lights) are definitely from my stomach and caused by gluten. When younger I was rarely without some level of headache and am glad to say that I only get them now when cc'd. The worst one I had (about 6 years ago) lasted 8 days! I began to worry actually. If I get one starting now I try to 'drown...
  11. Hi Lunacat To let you know I can understand how you feel - it is a struggle for me. I don't directly eat gluten (gluten-free 2011) and haven't eaten bread, pizza, pasta or cereal for some years - makes me appallingly ill but I do have problems associated with appetite. This means that if cc'd it seems to trigger me to eat. Have been very slim all my life...
  12. If I handle gluten containing products and touch my DH it certainly has an effect - makes it super sore! Had thought this was part of my celiac and didn't realize this was an additional wheat allergy on top. (I don't mean the DH here, but the external wheat product application). If you can understand this you're doing better than me . As for new people...
  13. Have a nasty feeling that gluten is lurking out there - there's plenty of it about. If celiac, I think that a good level of caution should be exercised and I would avoid non edible products containing gluten. I might of course, just be neurotic .
  14. Hi I am 51 now. When I was younger I was much worse and it was all over shoulder blades, buttocks and scalp with some on face and upper arms. I still have scarring. Now it is almost entirely scalp, though I still get it sometimes around my mouth or between my eyes, back of neck and in ears. I get the odd really bad one central shoulder blades, upper arms...
  15. I mean't 'am so excited' although perhaps exited is better !
  16. Hi squirmingitch I have just seen your photos on the link above - am so exited (sorry) - your DH is exactly like mine. I think of it as 'classic DH' as it seems to vary with people. I am self-diagnosed (apart from anti gliadin high on saliva test) and have had DH since about age 15. Am thinking about further tests but can't eat gluten for them - i...
  17. Hi all That milk business is all new to me. Over the years, have tried applying many creams to my DH (before I knew what it was)! Nothing worked and most things aggravated or hurt it. The only time it vanished like magic was when I took antibiotics and steroids for bad chest infection. Came straight back after. Also took tetracyclines (spelling?) for it...
  18. Hi Just thought I would add one of my seemingly random posts. I would say that you will not feel well with a TSH that high, but would like to add that it's important not to just rely on TSH results alone. IMHO they are unreliable and variable and unlikely to reflect how you feel. There are other thyroid tests that should be part of the picture too - not...
  19. Aahaa! Dehydration - get that too, although I drink plenty of water. Another of my gluten signs - terrific thirst. Also I think gluten (and soy) make me sweat, as in big hot flushes that can last an hour, so I try to keep drinking. Hadn't thought of that with the restless legs but will start on the water to see if that helps. Am in denial over dairy...
  20. Having been undiagnosed for many years have had plenty of time to become aware of symptoms and can usually relate to just about every post on here! Wanted to mention that I get bouts of restless legs (mainly right leg actually) but also a general restlessness. I'm pretty sure that it's gluten related (response on the day) and restless by evening. Have...
  21. Apologies in advance because my posts always appear rather random, (was looking for a cross-eyed smiley), but here goes anyway. Back when eating gluten one of the things I used to get was tearful. This would always be after being in a coffee shop (having had a teacake or scone) or after lunch (sandwich) or very noticeably, after porridge or oats. I'm talking...
  22. Another aspect of Gluten Head - when glutened on waking in morning I have to go through the days of the week to work out what day it is! Had no idea this was caused by gluten until gluten free!
  23. Hi Whitepine and Desperateladysaved Seeing a mention of inflammation, I have a strange version of it goes on. I associate it with trace gluten or soy/trace gluten - my waistband gets tight (I don't mean proper bloating, which I do also get) but also bra strap - the one that runs around ribcage and back. This digs into me where it wouldn't normally. This...
  24. "Gluten Head" - that's what it is !!! New medical term, I think .
  25. Just wanted to say great answers! Would like to add that stress sure aggravates my celiac - seems to make me worse. Also (please note IMHO) gluten is not a good thing for humans and I think a lot of people have varying levels of problems (tolerance) with it. I would recommend gluten free or at least very gluten light to anyone with any kind of long term...
