  1. Hi Really important to find shampoo/cond that doesn't aggravate it - this might take some time and trial! Mine is rapidly affected by iodine and I have to limit oily fish and sea salt or it goes beserk. I haven't tried a low iodine diet because of the health benefits of iodine but I do have to watch some things.
  2. Hi Maggiemc I am a little late arriving here but just to support what everyone else has said really. I have had some similar issues as I cook for my living too (guest accommodation at home). Evening dinners presented an immediate problem - how can you taste anything to check seasoning, etc if there's gluten in it ! It's been a learning curve for me but...
  3. It's all such a jigsaw puzzle. I do consider myself a super sensitive and have yet to find a so called 'gluten-free' food (processed) that I can eat . I do have problems with carbs though, especially combined with sugar which I am also not tolerant to. High carbs give me cravings too, which are worth avoiding! I find it very helpful here to know I...
  4. Hi I too am very suspicious of the fact that high-carbs could be the problem, as opposed to specific foods themselves. Have noticed that all my problem foods (over and above gluten) are high carbs!!!!!

  6. Hi Kikikobe Sounds a lot like gluten/celiac, thyroid or both and a lot like me. Stick with this forum - the quality of the replies never fails to amaze me. And welcome . Re: jhol You mention joint clicking - used to get this for years. No pain, just popping, clicking joints especially first thing in the morning. (Ankles and knees.) Happy...

  9. Hi I'm 51 (had to work it out from date of birth as I make a point of not remembering) but I'm sure there is some mistake with it as I have never felt my age. Kind of got stuck in 20's/30's and haven't moved on in my mind. I mean, 51 ?????????????? that can't be right !
  10. Hi Razzell I have Vitacoco and Cocofina. Have never had it before and when I first tasted it thought Eeww! - slightly odd and rather sweet . It must be an acquired taste because 24 hours later it was Yum! - give me more .
  11. Hi Tagging along again with 'me too'. Have never heard of hypermobile before but have been told that the bones in my feet and ankles are really mobile and my neck very mobile (had I been a trapeze artist/gymnast? asked chiropractor once!) Have trouble with neck/shoulders but will no longer have neck manipulated! I too have had muscle pain in recent years...
  12. Hi there Was pleased to find this thread and just wanted to say Me Too! Me Too! I bought a test meter and strips several years ago (pre-gluten-free) because I thought my blood sugar was getting high then dropping low. Turns out it was low and dropping very low and I could not raise it even with eating loads of sugar/sweets. I seem to be swinging again...
  13. Hi Mindwarp Been gluten free over 12 months and think a 3 month challenge might be the end of me - would be unable to function. On two weeks with gluten being mentioned by doc, just thought that perhaps it was worth a try for official diagnoses. While I don't need this for myself, I get fed up with the reaction of others giving you that 'yeah, yeah' look...
  14. Hi Razzle Just a small comment ( and yes, I do understand how you feel) - I have in the last week discovered coconut water, sold in health stores. Read a mention of it on this forum. It's fabulous and really seems to knock out cravings with a small glass. I find it quite sweet as well and very hydrating. Nutrient rich and probably anti-candida...
  15. Hi Seeing the above tests, I was told by doc yesterday that for a celiac blood test (UK) I would only need to consume gluten for two weeks and that the test is sensitive. Didn't ask which test this is as previously believed that you had to eat lots of gluten for three months which I cannot do. I am self-diagnosed but have DH and no real doubt in my mind...
  16. Hi Hannah - and bless that guinea pig . I have strong views about gluten (especially) and other grains. It's my belief that humans should not eat them as we are not designed to digest them nor are other mammals. This is my own view and not intended to be scientific fact or anything! I think it is important to remove them from a diet particularly if suffering...
  17. Hi leehua Sorry to see you're having problems. I've had this problem in the past - been down the eating disorder/psychologists road and while this may be helpful generally with problem dealing in life, it had no effect whatsoever on eating problems. IMHO it is part of the gluten intolerance/starved of nutrients, etc as per the other posts here. It also...
  18. Hi clsmith I know how you feel. I too felt great when I first went gluten very light (before I knew about celiac) then gluten free. Giving up gluten didn't trouble me at all because it had made me feel ill for so many years. Then along came the other problems - really unfair I thought. Rice, potatoes and soya are real problems now for me along with...
  19. Hi I was lucky enough to have a beautiful cocktail at a posh hotel just before Christmas - totally yum - totally glutened! . I was so cross - only have one of these a year and now it's off the list. Apart from this I only drink wine - a glass here and there. Since gluten free I have a job drinking it - have a small glass (yum again!) but feel it after...
  20. Hi A couple of things that can help generally: Blueberries - a punnet a day for 2-3 days seems to help and not a hardship - yum. Nuts - if you can tolerate them seem to help. As mentioned - exercise, especially in the form of long walks. And I drink hot water - not sure if this actually helps but it feels like it does!
  21. Hi I have just started to take B12 (Methylcobalamin) - it is liquid form and I put drops under tongue to absorb sublingually. This also avoids potential absorbtion problems from damaged digestive system as sublingually is absorbed directly into the bloodstream - I think!!! Have also read (please don't take this as a fact because I don't know that it is...
  22. Hi Just a thought on hair loss. My hair falls most of the time (last 7ish years approx) but less than it used to when eating gluten. I think soy and processed food make it worse and have had DH on scalp since teens. Hardly dare put this in print but the last few weeks it is thickening up (holding my breath while writing this!) and have been meaning to...
  23. Hi there This has probably been discussed before but does anyone else associate white marks on nails with celiac/is it related? I have had them for as long as I can remember and although I am aware of the documented causes I find mine often mirror when my DH flares. They vary in how many but both hands, all nails but less on thumbs. A common reason...
  24. Hi Brrrrandy I had lower right pain a few years ago (pre- gluten-free) - it would not go away. Put up with it for several days until I became worried it wasn't going. The doctor sent me straight to hospital as suspected appendicitis (had to go straight there). Pain could be felt by pressing the area. Appendicitis can be very dangerous if left untreated...
  25. Hi Hannah I also so can't eat gluten free processed products or flour. i am in the UK too and a friend whose daughter is diagnosed celiac told me that I couldn't have celiac if I can't eat the gluten free stuff - it must be something else ??? sigh !!! I can't eat rice (really bad) or potatoes either so had wondered if due to intestinal damage I am also...
