ARCHIVED Any Help With Celiac Markers?
aikiducky replied to cherie012's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't panic. Sounds very likely that your son does have celiac disease. That's good news. It means that you have an answer for his sensitive stomach, and probably for a number of other stuff that you don't even think about now but that will clear once he's been gluten free for a while. The beginning is the hardest, because it'll take a lot of work... -
Go off all dairy for a while...see how you feel. Then introduce some hard, matured cheese ...see how you feel. If you don't feel any different, you're probably all right with casein. Then introduce some plain milk...see how you feel. If it gives you trouble, it's likely the lactose. Hard matured cheese doesn't have any lactose to speak of, that's why it...

ARCHIVED Tested Once, Doubting The Results
aikiducky replied to the57motz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One thing that auto-immune reactions are notorious for are how they can change over time. It's not uncommon for a person to react differently to gluten at different times. I don't know why, and I don't know if anyone knows really. For me personally, feeling really well, REALLY well, for the first time in a long time, has been amazing. And I eat amazing... -

Cow milk comes from cows and goat milk comes from goats.... Sorry, couldn't resist! Pauliina -
Just to add to all the good advice... if you're eating like you described very often, never mind not absorbing nutrients - there aren't any nutrients to absorb in your junk food diet! A piece of fruit is every bit as easy to grab as a bag of m&m's! Really, you need to take your health a bit more seriously, otherwise what is all that rushing about going...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Get The Worst Gas
aikiducky replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why are you going back on gluten for a week? Is it to see how you feel, or is it for testing? because if it's for testing, yuo should know by now that a week isn't going to be enough? Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Doctors And Diagnosis
aikiducky replied to Nemi555's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The point is, yes he's biopsy and blood results might be positive even if he had been gluten free for a while - but they might also be negative, simply if he's a fast healer and his antibodies go down quickly. So if you have been gluten free, and only eat a little gluten for a little while, and the blood tests or biopsy are negative, YOU STILL DON'T KNOW... -
ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Poop For A Minute.

I had D before going gluten free, and yes, all kinds of strange things started to happen in the bathroom after that. It's been a little over a year, and in the last month or so I've started to have normal stools consistently. Pauliina -
Me too! I wouldn't mind the digestive symptoms, really, it's the emotional ones that I dread. Pauliina

I guess so, only it can be made of wheat as well, and until now, it wasn't necessary to list on the ingredients whether or not it was made from corm or wheat. I'm not sure if that is going to change, I'm not completely up to speed about that yet. BTW, I got a reply from the company. They were sorry that I couldn't use their product, but the glucose syrup...

ARCHIVED What Should I Ask To Get Done? 11-7-05
aikiducky replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I still think you should go all the way gluten free. It might well be that if your gluten sensitive, once you get rid of it in your system, that you'd finally be able to put some weight on. Going partially gluten free is just kidding yourself, IMHO. For what it's worth, and of course you make your own decisions. Pauliina -
My symptoms last from 5 to 21 days. I've also found that vitamin B (I take a complex so I don't know which one does the trick) helps with my mood and with the brain fog. Pauliina

Hi Ken, your information is correct - up to a point. Theoretically, glucose syrup should be safe - unfortunately, no one told my gut that, and it still reacts... for me gluten-free really has to be 100% naturally gluten free. I know other people with the same problem, too, it's a constant topic on local gluten-free mailing lists. The new European food...

Nini, I have no idea. But I don't think I want it badly enough to figure out how to make some myself. Just like I do like cakes but I never bake - laziness wins over gluttony... I could chew on some almonds and sugar, it all gets mixed up in the tummy anyway, doesn't it? That sounds like I'm really five years old, lol. Pauliina

ARCHIVED Results Negative, Family History, And Symptoms
aikiducky replied to Hall100's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One more thing... a lot of people seem to first feel great when they go gluten free, then a few weeks in, start to feel crappy again, then slowly improve until they feel really well after maybe a year or so. So it sounds like your just about on schedule, if you first felt great and now a bit less so. Pauliina -
Thing is I'm in Europe, so if the glucose syrup has gluten under the Codex Alimentarius norm amount, they are allowed to call it gluten free. I just think that in that case they should at least mention that there still can be traces of gluten for us extra sensitive people to avoid. I hate the Codex norm with a passion, it makes my food shopping such...

Yvonne, I wanted to add my condolences, and cyber hugs from here too. I'm so sorry to hear you lost your brother. Take care of yourself, too, not just the family! Pauliina -
I'm not often frustrated with my diet... but today I had such a disappointment! I found (I thought) a gluten free dairy free marzipan bar today. I have been wanting marzipan, it's in all the shops here. It said gluten free on the package and all! I was optimistic enough to buy two. Since the ingredients listed glucose syrup though, without giving the...

ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance...
aikiducky replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was diagnosed lactose-intolerant with a lactose drink and blood test. I had to fast for I think it was 12 hours before. What they did was take a blood sample before the drink, then give me the drink (with an enormous amount of lactose in it!), wait 20 min. take another sample, wait another 20. min. and a last sample. The idea is that if you are able... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins..essential Or Not?
aikiducky replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I didn't have time to get really ill before I went gluten-free... nowadays it feels like I'm getting what I need from my food. When I get glutenend I take a B-complex for a few days, it REALLY helps with my worst symptoms, like the brain fog. Actually didn't have much of a brain fog last time, I took a big doze of vit. B's immediately when I noticed I'd been... -

ARCHIVED Explaining Gf As Lifestyle Choice.
aikiducky replied to dogear's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What you're forgetting is that several people here, who don't have celiac disease, or who don't know for sure that they have it, have suffered from debilitating symptoms and made a drastic lifestyle change to literally save their lives. I don't know for sure that I have celiac disease. It's too late to test for it now. The change from eating gluten to... -
This might sound a bit extreme but... my experience has been, and I've noticed many other people's here as well, that people you live with will REALLY get it once you've been thoroughly sick from glutening once. I'm not suggesting that you purposefully eat something with gluten, but it's just hard to understand for other people, until they see the results...
