ARCHIVED Muscle Soreness
aikiducky replied to julie5914's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have that whenever I have been recently glutened. Normally I can do a two hour workout and just feel pleasantly relaxed and tired... but after a glutening, for a couple weeks, I feel weak and floppy like a rag doll and I get really sore and stiff afterwards. And trying to push through it just makes things worse. It's hard to explain to other people how... -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Create New Food Intolerances
aikiducky replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I definitely have good and bad days after getting glutened, and the worst day for me seems to often be the 7th for some odd reason. I've more than once thought that I was glutened again, then I realize that it's exactly a week from my glutening, and then the day after that (8th day) I'm usually feeling alot better. Another possibility I could imagine... -
ARCHIVED I Need A Gluten Free, Soy Free, And Dairy Free Cooking Oil!
aikiducky replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Olive oil would be good I think, plus it's very healthy. It's made of olives. Canola oil is made of rapeseed IIRC. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED How Did You Acquire Celiac?
aikiducky replied to tasha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My mom recently told me I used to always have D as a baby, and noone could figure out why... as long as I remember I've had some bathroom issues and gas, but I've always thought it was just some lactose sneaking in somehow. Even when I was practically dairy-free. I didn't actually get dramatically sick before going gluten free. So I can't say that... -
ARCHIVED Confused About What I'm Reading...
aikiducky replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I wonder if it isn't possible that those grains might indeed cause a reaction in some individuals, but not all? Because I know so many celiacs who happily consume teff and quinoa and so on and seem fine with it. I'd really like to see a second study about it for sure. I've tried oats, in Finland, btw, and didn't react in any way as far as I can tell. I... -
ARCHIVED Glutened At Christmas Party
aikiducky replied to Kenster61's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
With friends, I tell them EXACTLY what I can have, and can't, and check that they have understood. Then before eating I ask them about the ingredients again! With people that aren't close enough friends that I would feel comfortable doing this, or if i just don't want to bother, I bring something to eat myself. Just went to a party on Friday as a matter... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle People Who Refuse To Recognize This Celiac Stuff?
aikiducky replied to frustratedneicey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think, just to look at this from a different point of view for a while, that it's easy to forget that people around us have to go through the same kind of mental adjustment we have had to go through ourselves - and they don't have the concrete evidence of feeling the symptoms. Honestly, how many people here spent some time in denial, hoping it wasn't... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Newly Diagnosed Starving?
aikiducky replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
To give you an idea of what I might cook for dinner: one courgette, a couple carrots, a big piece of leek, yellow pepper, some broccoli, mushrooms. It makes a whole panful, and I often eat it all. Or I leave some leftovers for the next day. Plus some meat or fish as i said. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Another Question About Reactions
aikiducky replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yup, that's how it works for me, too. I figure if you get gluten all the time, the immune system sorta gets tired of reacting all the time and doesn't react so strongly anymore. When you are gluten free for a while, your immune system gets back it's strength... add gluten, and voilá, a big reaction. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Anyone Newly Diagnosed Starving?
aikiducky replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One thing I had to change when I went gluten free, was my thinking about the amount of vegetables it's possible to eat in one meal! I eat HUGE amounts of veggies nowadays. When I make salad for myself, I make what I would have considered enough for four people before my gluten-free days. Basically my attitude used to be that veggies are a side dish... -
I was just looking for info in Germany, and came across the French society as well: Open Original Shared Link Hope that helps some! Pauliina

ARCHIVED We Have Just Found Out The Results Of Emmas Test....
aikiducky replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm in Holland, not Germany, but heinz tomato sauce is gluten free here, and I think it's the same in germany, too. I'll have a look around if i can find some info about gluten free foods in Germany... Pauliina German celiac society: Open Original Shared Link There was only one page of info in English, but I think your best bet would be to contact... -
Well, my last gluten meal was a bowl of muesli I ate in an attempt to start eating gluten again for blood tests. It made me so sick I went to have blood drawn the same day. Of course the results were negative. I can't say I miss muesli, lol. Pauliina

aikiducky replied to CaliGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Day just started for me over here... yesterday I had: Breakfast: rice crackers topped with goats cheese, olives and oregano, nuked to melt the cheese banana, pear and dates cut in chunks and mixed to make a fruit salad darjeeling tea - a whole pot Lunch: two more bananas, raisins and nuts - I was in a hurry Tea Dinner: Huge salad of... -
I find myself less and less moody when I'm glutened nowadays. I do get irritable (it's one of my first symptoms) but if I think of taking a substantial dose of vitamin B complex right away, that seems to help prevent the depression and sadness. I've also been taking care to eat a lot of salmon and leafy greens lately, and that also helps. I don't...

ARCHIVED How May Of You
aikiducky replied to Becky6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had negative bloodwork, but I'd been gluten free for about five weeks by then. But I'm definitively responding to the diet! I react very clearly and consistently with the same symptoms every time I accidentally have something with gluten in it. Otherwise I feel better than ever in my life before. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED 2nd Month Gluten Free And Terribly Constipated
aikiducky replied to Nancym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You could try raisins and dates, as a natural source of magnesium. I also second the stop eating dairy suggestion, if you haven't already. At least it's worth a try. Pauliina card-carrying member of the Sunmaid fan club, lol! -
ARCHIVED Ugh, Glutened And Sick Sick Sick
aikiducky replied to anerissara's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know, I doubt if there's anything else wrong. You might only notice symptoms for a few days, but it can take up to three-four weeks before ALL the damage has completely healed. So if you have been having little accidents all the time, you haven't had a normal bm becuse, well, your bowel hasn't had a chance to get to normal yet. Sorry. Totally... -
ARCHIVED Small Amounts Of Gluten Safe?
aikiducky replied to DQ1Squared's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Not necessarily. It could also mean that there isn't enough damage to show in the blood yet. Also, if one is IGA deficient, then that wouldn't show even if there was damage. I just don't understand why on earth I'd ever want to eat something that made me feel lousy. For me that is such a no-brainer. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Front Page Of Wall Street Journal
aikiducky replied to 4getgluten's topic in Publications & Publicity
Did you all see the figures for how common celiac is in a few countries, on the actual article on the website? Celiac is more common both in Finland and in Italy than in Ireland... I bet it's fairly common elsewhere in the Mediterranean as well. Just to say, that only irish people get celiac is really a myth... Thank you so much for posting the article... -
ARCHIVED Going Crazy!
aikiducky replied to Goliadman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
First of all, Goliadman, kudos for taking your wife's health seriously and being such a supporting husband! ((hugs)) Like mightymorg said, the solution for me has been to eat mostly fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and meat and fish, eggs, nuts and raisins. I eat a lot of stir fry veggies and meat, and salads with canned tuna or salmon for lunch, and several... -
ARCHIVED Anybody Out There Who Tested Negative For Celiac
aikiducky replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I posted a couple days ago about a woman on another board who had had three rounds of testing, only the last one showed positive. I don't remember how much time had gone between the first round of testing and the last, but I think it was a few years. When you think about it logically, of course it's possible to start showing symptoms first before there... -
ARCHIVED Oh My Tummy!
aikiducky replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry to hear you're feeling crummy. I bet it's the gluten though. With your son's celiac it just seems so likely. I just recently read a post by a lady on a Dutch celiac board where she'd had three rounds of tests (blood&endo), and only the last one detected damage. It had just not progressed far enough before then to be detectable. Kudos to... -
