  1. That's great to hear Ron!!! I'm so happy that you're starting to feel better!!! It's a nice inspiration and motivation to the rest of us...
  2. I think I am going through the same thing right now - after 3 months of being gluten free I'm starting to not feel as great and notice I'm much more sensitive to things. My GI system was never sensitive to gluten before my diagnosis. I cant seem to put my finger on what's not making me feel right and I think I will just have to be as careful as possible...
  3. Was it a blood test? Can you ask for a copy of the results? When they send them to you, post them on here and there are many people who can help you...welcome to the forum!!!
  4. I'm so sorry to hear that you're feeling so sick. What are you eating? Do you know if you're deficient in any vitamins? There could be other food sensitivities that have popped up since your diagnosis and you will have to remove them and slowly add them back in to see if you're having a reaction. My diagnosis was a total shocker too and I too have felt...
  5. So sorry to hear that you're not feeling great - I think I'm in the same place as you right now. I was diagnosed in May and was doing pretty good and was starting to feel more confident. At this point, I'm pretty sure that I was glutened 2 weeks ago, because ever since then I have been falling asleep on my desk at work every day and its horribly embarrassing...
  6. This may sound silly, but I find that the more comfortable and casual (but firm) that I seem about asking the questions, the easier it is and the better of a reaction I get. I also use the phone apps "Gluten Free Registry" and "Find Me Gluten Free" to see what restaurants are in my area that can do gluten free - they also have customers review their experiences...
  7. My favorite that I've had to say is..... (To weight trainer) "I'm sorry, by mistake I ate oats today and now my knees are swollen and can't move...so I'm going to have to take it easy today..." (Blank stare and crickets chirping)
  8. You are VERY welcome!!!!! You have no idea how happy this made me when I read your post. I'm glad someone else was able to enjoy fantastic food! I haven't been gluten free for a very long time, but even in this short time I was missing my GOOD tasting bread and goodies. They ARE amazing and they are also an amazing family who take the time to talk to...
  9. I LOVE going to PF Changs!!! Its a place I can go to and actually feel comfortable and normal! There's a couple apps for smart phones that will help you locate gluten free restaurants in your area. They also include reviews and other people will post their experiences at those restaurants. Its been very helpful for me - the apps are "Gluten Free Registry...
  10. Because of my anemia my GYN had me taking three months worth of birth control in a row before getting my period so that it could cut down on the blood loss - this has actually helped with my iron levels the past few years (plus I dont mind getting my period only 4 times a year!). This is the first time I'm getting it since going gluten free, and my symptoms...
  11. I dont have an issue with putting on weight (I'm actually trying to lose it!) but I did have an issue with a high amount of probiotics in Kefir. I drank a small amount of Kefir just to see if I liked the taste and about an hour later I was curled up on the floor screaming in pain. My nutritionist told me that a lot of people with Celiac have a hard time...
  12. HAHAHAH nevermind it JUST changed!!!!!
  13. I'm trying to change my avatar but all it did was blur my picture and make it look weird. I tried it several times with several different pictures, even one of the pre-made avatars on the site, but it wont change. Can anyone help?
  14. Hello everyone! My name is Laura and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker - I also have Celiac disease. My nutritionist Yvette (a Registered Dietician who is experienced in Celiac) and I are trying to put a support group together in central/northern NJ. I have been facilitating mental health groups with children, teens, and adults for approximately ...
  15. It sounds like your body might be trying to heal again, but as you know its important to get nutrients. I've been drinking homemade beef and chicken broth and my nutritionist says that its a great way to heal the GI tract while still getting some nutrients. Its really helped me with my bloating too. Maybe this could be helpful to you?
  16. Your very welcome!!! I've also found the apps "Gluten Free Registry" (its free) and "Find Me Gluten Free" very helpful too - they will pinpoint your location and then pull up a map showing you all the gluten free restaurants and stores in your area. The best thing about it is they have reviews that show other people's experiences there - some you need to...
  17. I have a friend who happens to be a bridesmaid in my wedding who seemed to shy away from me once I was diagnosed. She never said anything mean or tried to tease me, but I notice she's not calling me anymore or responding to my messages. What gets me is that she always called me to complain about her VERY mild morning sickness when she was pregnant, how...
  18. I would have the vasovagal syncope/fainting episodes but I could never link them to right after I ate gluten. Granted, these happened before I was diagnosed and I never had GI symptoms, so it could have been but I never realized it. Not surprisingly, I never (knock on wood) had a syncope episode since going gluten-free!
  19. Welcome to the forum!!! DEFINITELY keep reading as many posts as you can on here, its how I learned so quick. As far as eating, I remember the acronym "BROW-M" which equates to "Barley, Rye, Oats, Wheat, and Malt." Those are the things we cannot have. There are some great apps for smart phones, specifically "Is that Gluten Free?" where if you arent sure...
  20. I'm pretty sure that I was glutened Friday night after my fiance and I went on a "date" to a supposedly gluten free Asian restaurant. The next day I had horrible cramping, gas, and eventually D for the next two days. After the second day I got the extreme fatigue and have sadly fallen asleep at my desk for the past three days which is super embarrassing...
  21. Thank you so much for that advice! After reading your post, I made a call to my nutritionist (who is wonderful) and explained the situation to her and she seems to think it's the cultures too and said that some Celiacs cant tolerate the high amounts in the Kefir. I'll stay away from it for a long time (I dont want to experience anything like that again...
  22. If you're having trouble digesting meat, I'd try giving grass-fed steak a shot. Grass-fed steak doesn't contain any chemicals that they stuff cows with that you find in the regular food stores. Since they don't have all those chemicals in it, they are much easier for us Celiacs to digest. They are a bit more expensive, but its worth it for me because I...
  23. I never had an issue with dairy before my diagnosis (May 2012) and I used to drink milk like it was water and going out of style...but I cut out a good portion of dairy and now only limit my diary intake to a Weight Watchers low fat cheese stick and a cup of yogurt daily. Since I never had issues with those and always felt fine, I tried the Trader Joe's...
  24. I gained a lot of weight before my diagnosis. When I was in college from 2001-2005 I weighed anywhere between 115-120lbs and I'm 5'3". I think my Celiac triggered after college and I steadily climbed to 155lbs which was my highest the beginning of this year. I was so frustrated because nothing worked, diets, exercise, and I didnt lose any weight. After...
