I don't really have any words of wisdom, but just wanted to say that I hope she feels better soon. It's so awful to watch your child be sick. Update us soon! Shannon

ARCHIVED Before Going gluten-free Was Anyone Else Always Hungry?e&j0304 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I just stumbled upon this and I see that it's a really old thread, but I just wanted to add a little of our story for you. My then 2-year-old dd was ALWAYS hungry. Hungry to the point of eating 2 sandwiches, a bowl of grapes, apples, bananas, bowls of cereal, 3 glasses of milk, animal crackers, etc. IN ONE SITTING. She was so ravenous that we took her...

You were such a great source of support for me when we were first going through this with Ella and I will always be thankful for that. I hope that you are doing well also! Shannon

I just wanted to share that I took my kids to the dr. today because my little one had his 2-year well baby check and my daughter is sick with the flu. Although it is sad that my daughter has the flu, I was SO excited to learn that she is now 34lbs. and almost 38 inches tall!!! This is HUGE for her. The last time she was measured, 10 months ago, she was...

ARCHIVED My Enterolab Genetic Resultse&j0304 replied to carrielynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I'm no expert on this, but I do know that just because you have the genes doesn't mean that you are gluten intolerant. You may become gluten intolerant in the future if you aren't already, but you may not. Without seeing if your stool sample picked up a gluten sensitivity it's hard to tell. I'm assuming you didn't have that part of the test run? I am...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Opinion?e&j0304 replied to e&j0304's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Thanks for your opinion. Basically we just don't know if my son is intolerant unless we continually subject him to getting sick and wait for him to "adjust" if he's going to... How long would you say it would take to become able to tolerate a food again. For example, your friend with the steak. How long did it take before her body could tolerate...

ARCHIVED What's Going On> He's Not Hungry Any More? Is This Good Or Bad?e&j0304 replied to ARK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms That is exactly what happened with my dd. That is actually what we did take her to the dr for. She was only 2 years old and was eating CONSTANTLY. She would not play with friends, particiapte in little classes or really do much of anything because she was sad/anxious about when she could eat next. It was a nightmare and before she was diagnosed (by us...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Opinion?e&j0304 replied to e&j0304's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms This is all so interesting. Thank you all so much for your imput. I went to a Celiac Support Group meeting last night and asked this question there. Although there were no doctors, just people with celiac like all of you, they thought that you CANNOT cause a person to develop a sensitivity to gluten just by keeping them off of the diet. I am going...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Opinion?e&j0304 replied to e&j0304's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms So basically this could go both ways?? Either I am making him more sensitive by keeping him off of it, or I could be causing unknown damage by having him on it. Am I right? I am a little confused. Basically what this boils down to for me is that I want my son to have the least complicated preschool experience that I can give him. I know how difficult...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Opinion?e&j0304 replied to e&j0304's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms This is interesting to me. I have not asked my dr what she thinks but I will at my son's 2-year check up next week. I do not want to be making him sensitive to something, but also wonder if that's really possible. Ursula, you made a good point when you stated that we would then be sensitive to anything new we try. Sometimes it's really hard trying...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Opinion?e&j0304 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms This came up on another thread and I'm interested. I have a son who was never diagnosed. He had negative blood tests, biopsy and was even negative through Enterolab. He was diagnosed with "toddler diarrhea" and since my dd was already on the gluten-free diet, we put him on it as well. His diarrhea cleared up. Last Tuesday he got into some regular pretzels...

ARCHIVED Anyone W/ Canker Sores?e&j0304 replied to rez's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Aren't mouth sores a symptom of celiac? I have read that numerous times. I am sorry you're stuggling so much. I wish there was a magic wand someone could wave to make you feel like you're doing the right thing 100% of the time. I know how you feel and it is hard and frustrating. If Thomas is feeling better off gluten I think you have your answer. If...

ARCHIVED Tyler's Doctor Is Frutstrating Me...e&j0304 replied to Shalia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I would love to know how all of can distinguish a gluten reaction from the flu or a cold. My son got into regular pretzels yesterday. He has been fine all day long- playing and happy. About 3 hours after eating the pretzels he suddenly came down with a high fever (104.4) and was vomitting and having tons of gas and loose stools. Now, was it the pretzels...

ARCHIVED In Need Of A Good gluten-free/sugar Free Dessert Recipee&j0304 replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Nicole, Thats a good idea and sounds yummy! Thanks! Lorka, I am not anti-Splenda. Is it terrible for kids? I typically don't use it, but am not opposed to it on occasion. I don't think that having it a few times a year will kill anyone. Thanks again, Shannon

ARCHIVED Healthy Choice Fiesta Chicken And Vegetable Beef Soupse&j0304 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Just wondering if these soups are ok or not. The labels look fine to me and they only say "May contain Soy" but when I called the 800 number I couldn't get a "live person" to answer a question. Has anyone ever tried these? I'm looking for some canned soup with meat in it for my kiddos. Thanks in advance! Shannon

ARCHIVED In Need Of A Good gluten-free/sugar Free Dessert Recipee&j0304 replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Actually anything would be ok! I wasn't going to be picky because I wasn't sure how easy it would be to cook gluten-free/SF. Cookies or a pie or something would be nice for Thanksgiving. I'll take anything! :-) Thanks so much for your help! Shannon

I am searching for a good gluten-free/Sugar Free dessert recipe and was hoping maybe one of you would have one. ARCHIVED Help! Confused By Resultse&j0304 replied to rez's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms No, sorry I guess I worded that wrong. My child does have double DQ1, but is NOT biopsy proven. There are however several people on here who ARE biopsy proven and DQ1. There is a definite possibility that you could have celiac although of course it doesn't make much difference what you have because the solution to the problem is the same for celiac or...

ARCHIVED Help! Confused By Resultse&j0304 replied to rez's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I'm sure that you're feeling VERY overwhelmed and that is so normal. I of course support you 100% and am always a phone call away if you ever need anything, including just someone to vent to who really understands!! I feel for you with the caesin. We aren't dealing with that but I know plenty of people on here are and hopefully they will be a good support...
