I avoid vinegar, white vinegar, or distilled vinegar as they are most often made from corn. I was initially diagnosed by digestive disease doctor as having an allergy to wheat and corn because of an extremely high IGE and further blood tests indicated wheat and corn as the problems. Initially I did not know all the things made from corn and reacted to...

ARCHIVED Ciprofloxacin Eye Drops
SensitiveMe replied to zelda317's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would call the doctor. And not give her any further of these eyedrops. She could be reacting to the Ciprofloxacin (which is an antibiotic) or to another of the inactive ingredients in the eye drops. Keep an eye on her for any signs of an allergic reaction. You should also discuss with the doctor your concerns regarding any wheat in the eyedrops. I do not... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Nightmares- Literally!
SensitiveMe replied to Pauliewog's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am 2 years glutenfree and have those dreams. I get startled awake, realize I am eating something I shouldn't and think what the heck is wrong with me as I should know better than to eat this. Then I realize it was just a dream, feel relieved about that and end up going back to sleep. Still it is unpleasant to be startled awake like that. I believe in... -
Symptoms of gastritis are discomfort or pain in the upper abdomen, belching, nausea and vomiting, bloating, burning or fullness sensation in the upper part of the belly. These symptoms may be the same ones you can get when you have a food intolerance but the cause of them is not poorly digested food. The cause is because the lining of the stomach has...

ARCHIVED How Important Is An Endoscopy If Blood Test Is Positive?
SensitiveMe replied to tommysmommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I cannot give you a good reason for an endoscopy and think you should stick to your Mommy instincts. If you want to demand a good reason from the doctors then go ahead and stick to your Mommy guns and demand it. I was in a similar situation once but is was not over celiac or gluten. My daughter was diagnosed with having Berget's syndrome (it is a benign... -
ARCHIVED A Poop Question
SensitiveMe replied to Peppa-minto's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One of the books I have here lists potential symptons regarding Celiacs and/or gluten intolerance. It describes stools as being pale, foul-smelling, bulky, and/or fatty stools that float. I hope that helps some. I don't believe it would be a definite medically accepted symptom but just more of an indication that Celiacs or gluten intolerance may be occuring... -
ARCHIVED Corn Allergy -- Question Re Xanthan Gum And Namaste
SensitiveMe replied to SensitiveMe's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks everyone for your help, information and other sites. I think for now I will just get a small bottle of the Authentic Foods xanthan gum and try that. I will be careful and just eat a little bit and if it bothers me will just give up on xanthan gum. Deborah...I already feel like trying to live in the United States of Corn with a corn allergy is the... -
ARCHIVED Wedding Coming Up.
SensitiveMe replied to Juliebove's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The year before last I had to go our local country club for 5 events, and right after having found out I can't have wheat, corn, soy or oats and have severe lactose intolerance. The first 4 events were funeral remembrance luncheon gatherings for members of the family who just passed away so I didn't have time to think or stress out about it. It was like baptism... -
ARCHIVED Corn Allergy -- Question Re Xanthan Gum And Namaste
SensitiveMe replied to SensitiveMe's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I got through to Authentic Foods on the phone today. I said I was calling about their xanthan gum because I have a corn allergy and corn allergy websites are saying to avoid it because it can have corn in it. Then I said that I had read on some glutenfree baking sites that their xanthan gum was the only one to use because it was cornfree. He said there... -
ARCHIVED Corn Allergy -- Question Re Xanthan Gum And Namaste
SensitiveMe posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have been reading online that Authentic Foods makes an xanthan gum that is cornfree but couldn't find verification on their website. And read also that Namaste makes products that contain cornfree xanthan gum and I did find verification of that on their website. Have any of you with corn allergies or sensitivities used either of these products without... -
ARCHIVED Organic Spices, Which Are Safe To Eat?
SensitiveMe replied to myforest's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have used several of the Simply Organic spices by Frontier and without any problems. I prefer to use them over other brands. They have them at my ShopRite grocery store here...they are expensive but when I go I check which ones may be on sale as I plan to replace what spices I use with this brand. I believe that one can be glutened by olive oil. I have... -
ARCHIVED Product Review - Cuisinart
SensitiveMe replied to RonSchon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have had one of these for a few years now and love it. Use it all the time. It always cooks the eggs perfectly. The base will have a residue in it after cooking the eggs...I let it cool down and put a little vinegar in there and just wipe it out. And you can put the top of it on your head and pretend you are a Viking. -
ARCHIVED Non Baker - Baked First gluten-free Chocolate Cake, Success
SensitiveMe replied to Alwayssomething's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Congrats from me also. Every successful gluten free baking venture is like a victory. I am still working on perfecting my bread recipe. My worst attempts are with popovers which don't want to come out right for me. And the worst tasting thing I ever made was chocolate cupcakes using a recipe which called for garbanzo bean flour...they were really... -
I can't stand watermelon either. And I relate to eating honeydew and cantalope and having such pains you want to die or be taken to the emergency room. I remember as a child having cantalope very infrequently and loving it so I really don't know why in later years I came to have such a problem with it. I could never tolerate bananas well...they give...

ARCHIVED Successful 1St Attempt At Baking
SensitiveMe replied to june27's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
A big YAY from me also. I was hoping you would post and let us know how things went. Glad you are off to a good start. -
I was told by someone at King Arthur flour that a stand mixer is preferred over a hand mixer because it incorporates more air into the batter which you need in order for it to rise properly. I called them after I had to go glutenfree and they don't recommend a bread machine for gluten free bread. But I had only recently bought a new 2 lb. Zojirushi machine...

ARCHIVED Corn, Gluten, Dairy Intolerance And Regression
SensitiveMe replied to lhaisley's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't know of any reasonably priced vitamin supplements...I use Mega Food 100% whole food but they are very expensive. As for rice you have to watch what brand you use as much of the rice in the US is enriched (sprayed with corn). What brands have you been using? As someone allergic/intolerant of corn also I can't purchase so many gluten free items... -
It also sure sounds like gout to me. I would suggest you ask for a bloodwork test that checks your uric acid level. My daughter developed gout so I have become familiar with it. Hers was caused by a certain medication though...a drug called Lasix which is a diuretic and can cause uric acid crystals to accumulate. Gout will just reoccur at times and can...

PS...There is a soyfree substitute for soy sauce made by Coconut Secret called Coconut Aminos. It is a soy-free seasoning sauce and you use it like soy sauce for dressings, marinades, or sautes. The ingredients are organic coconut sap aged and blended with sun-dried sea salt. You could check it out at coconutsecret.com It is also Gluten Dairy and GMO Free... -
ARCHIVED Soy Intolerance, Questions
SensitiveMe replied to sharilee's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have had a intolerance to soy for quite a few years now...it gives me mucousy diarrhea. Even the little bit of soy lecitin in a candy bar used to cause mucous in my system so I avoid all soy. Yes, it is very hard to find things without soy. The only store bought marinade for chicken without soy in it I ever saw was Rao's Homemade Lemon Chicken Marinade... -
ARCHIVED Help
SensitiveMe replied to lisamh76's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks GFreeMo for coming in to help. I was also going to suggest the original poster visit the section of the board called Other Food Intolerances and Leaky Gut Issues as there are others there who can't have corn. -
ARCHIVED Help
SensitiveMe replied to lisamh76's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As someone sensitive to corn the only dry cereal I can eat is one I get at a natural market which is only rice...similar to rice krispies but pretty tastless. For hot cereals try buckwheat or quinoa flakes. You have to be very careful about dry cereals...I cannot eat Rice Chex because they have Vitamin E added which is made from corn, and molasses added which... -
I get my cereal in my area from what is called a Natural Market...it is only rice. It looks similar to rice krispies but pretty tasteless. It comes in a see though bag. Sorry none here at the time and I don't remember the company and name of it. (I can't have corn either). At the ShopRite grocery store here I get small packages of what is called Crunch...

ARCHIVED What Brand Of Rice Do You Use?
SensitiveMe replied to GFreeMO's topic in Super Sensitive People
I am using Lundberg now...thanks to you I also can't have corn and thank you for starting this post as I was unaware of rice possibly being treated with corn. And I am intending to soon make my own rice flour and rick milk. For rice at meals I have been using A Taste of Thai Jasmine Rice...very yummy but about $4 for a bit over a lb. of it. I saw... -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream Milk
SensitiveMe replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All of my containers of Rice Dream have always said Gluten Free on them...it is written on the front of it in the left lowermost corner. It is small with red letters on a yellow background and a red triangular frame around it. I have stopped drinking it and 2 days later I noticed...
